    Honda Mechanics are heroes… labor time for Evap replacement is listed at 8.5hrs by experienced mechanic, to see a video demonstration is amazing and thank you

    Wow! Thank you so much FixIt! I have a 2016 civc and I tried to replace the evap last month and after pulling the dash I was stuck! Would have never thought I would need to remove that box until I watched this! Keep up the good content! Love from Michigan.

    HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO! I complained to American Honda but they only offered to PAY HALF and their offer was only valid for 30 days!!! So I called a LEMON LAW attorney and after 6 months I won $5K they take half so I took home $2.5 which was just enough to cover the part. 2018 Civic LX condenser went out 1st year under warranty, compressor went out 2nd year under extended warranty NOW the evaporator went out just outside of the extended warranty. Love Hondas but this is BS!

      @superduperboyx it was $2k for the evaporator through the dealership to maintain some kinda warranty. The attorney took half of the $5k so I got $2.5k paid $2k for the evaporator and pocketed $500.

    Holy f--k! I thought replacing the compressor looked like plenty of work for me but this one is just a whole other level. It looked like the whole dash was ripped off just to access the evaporator. I dont think I can do this one sadly..

    American Honda Helped me out replacing mine but when I drove off the lot I had to deal with gasoline vapors blowing out of my air conditioner for several months.
    Finally a mechanic was willing to drive with me so he could smell my issue. Honda stated a the cracked line I had to replace couldn’t have happened when my Evaporator was fixed. Now I’m dealing with the Cover of my steering wheel being warped but they stated that wouldn’t have had to be removed during the repair. This generation of Honda’s must have been made from recycled milk containers. Trash

      I got an estimate today for 1.8k. Considering what others have mentioned, I would say it’s not bad. However, it shouldn’t be this difficult. My husband’s car is a 2017. We received an extended warranty form from Honda. It mentioned that it only applies if it is the A/C Compressor Shaft Shield Seal Leak.
      I called to get an estimate from a Honda Dealership only to be told that an inspection will be approx 300-400. Not including labor. IF it is not the aforementioned. Instead I went to a local shop and they mentioned that they’ve been seeing the same issue for the past few years. I have no solution or advice in this comment. I think I just vented lol sorry.

    Is there a reason at the start of the video you removed the bolts from a/c lines? I know the one that bolt that goes through the Expansion Valve to core is a must but just curious about the bolts that hold the lines down. Also is the reason why you move the heater core hose clamps to give you some room inside when removing the ac core from the box? Thanks

    My dealership says replacing my evaporator will cost me $3k. Is that normal or are they overcharging? I’ve been doing research on evaporators and I see that they run no more than $200-$300. Would it be better to just buy it myself and have it fixed elsewhere?

    • @arrrexx
      @arrrexx 8 місяців тому +2

      my honda dealer quoted me for 2300 last month. It seems steep but mostly its cost of labor which because it takes so much work to get access to it and a leak cant easily be sealed so full replacement is the only option. Expect it to cost over $1000 no matter what (probably). Location: los angeles.

    There’s no logic in the Evap not being constructed to Hondas specifications to begin with after disassembling all of that there’s no way that it can be assembled back to the way it was from Factory Honda should have their shit together better than this!!! I got a 2017 Civic LX that just started having AC problems and supposed to take it next week to have the seal replaced in compressor hopefully it will solve the problem and won’t result in this that’s a lot of components to put back in place!!! Honda supposed to have a reputation to uphold i don’t know if i will ever buy another Civic after the one i have now it definitely puts bad taste in your mouth!!! I have a 07 Malibu as well and cold AC knock on wood and no problems when i bought my Civic i thought i was doing the right thing!!!🤔

  • @virnawsantos

    ALL that disconnection & disassembly was COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY esp with the center console and messing with the side airbags! A BIG NO-NO! The dashboard actually flips open if done right, it does NOT have to be disassembled like this!!! If I found out that any wire was cut then spliced like that, I would sue!!! A video putting all this back together CORRECTLY, would be fun to watch! 🤦🏻‍♀️these mechanics will make the job more difficult than necessary so they can charge more on time and labor. I’ve seen better videos, DON’T BELIEVE THIS ONE!!!

      This car had an aftermarket alarm, and the wire has already been cut. I just re-connected the wire they spliced into. The dash does not flip open. It has to be removed to access the HVAC box.
