    Ever wanted to build a medieval castle style door?
    This is part 1 of an exciting FREE UA-cam full course on building a medieval castle style door in Blender 2.8. In this tutorial, we will work on the stone blocks around the outside of the door, the door frame, and the basic door structure. Everything is done in Blender, letting you fully explore the software’s modelling and texturing capabilities.
    I recently uploaded a timelapse of me building this medieval castle style door in Blender 2.8 as well. Feel free to take a gander to see what your finished model will look like at the end of this course.

      @@3DTudor I'll definitely show you once I get to a finished product. I'm actually doing this model 1)to practice with Blender and 2) for an illustration. And I will not lie, I am not an architect lol. So this will be quite the challenge. :D But only one way to learn, right?

      @@cadef1738, perfect! I look forward to it. Doing a project and fully committing to it certainly helps when you're trying to learn a new piece of software. That's a very good approach to take. Of course, don't worry, neither of us are architects. We learn from trying this, as you say. What I would suggest, for Edwardian architecture, specially with wood and stone, it might be useful to look at some Edwardian furniture with decals or carvings. They often use the same designs in their architecture :)

    First 14 minutes of work can be done using a Single cube and 3 modifiers (Bevel + Array modifier + Simple Deform). 180 degree bend for top part, use limits for both side pillars (so only middle part bends).

    Hi.
    I have a really weird problem.
    Around 3:19. I am trying to extrude via scale as you did but I keep creating a copy of the arch and that moves as I scale. Now step by step.
    I hover over arch and press L
    tab for edit mode
    I make sure median point is selected
    press S
    and not matter what axis I press I just create a copy and that moves.
    Any ideas ?

    Hey I am just learning to do all of this but its seems like trying to follow you along is really difficult. There are problems that are coming up even if I do exactly hat you are doing, as well some of the functions you do arent working for me.
    -When you click 4 times to grab all of the edges around 5:27
    -When I tried to flatten out the curve in the arch it didnt select all of the edges and left the door looking weird
    -When I click cntrl r to insert the loops they only applied to one side of my pillar
    Do you have any insight as to why I am not able to do this exactly as you are doing it?
    are there any settings I have to adjust to follow this guide along?

    Here I´m learning the basics. Very helpful, though I have some issues. The "fill holes" function didn`t work (blender 2.9). Any idea? Also bevel modif. didn`t work after marking seams. (After one hour...)Ok, seems I had several double vertices, I think that was the problem.

    • @Ganreder
      @Ganreder 3 роки тому +1

      I found a solution to this problem. I had a similar problem - "fill holes" didn't work. All you have to do is use "merge by distance" and then "fill holes" and everything should work fine :)

    • @3DTudor
      @3DTudor  3 роки тому

      from what Ganreder said which I think is very helpful btw so thanks for that. The issue is likely caused with extrusion and not pulling the part out and just leaving it :)

    At about 12:18 you apply a bevel modifier. I'm using Blender 2.90.0 and for some reason my edges don't bevel. Can you confirm that the approach works with 2.9? When I create a cube and apply a bevel modifier it works so I may have accidentally messed up my cylinder

    Hey I've tried following this a couple times but when I get to making the loop cuts on the frame, the loopcuts only go half way around the strutcture and not the whole thing, I used the knife tool instead but it didn't allow me to use the fill holes option correctly afterwards.

    • @3DTudor

      Hi Fettman this is because somewhere along the line your edges have a break in the and is not a clean mesh. Click very select and you will see extra verts once these are cleaned up there will be np with loop cuts ;)
