Some people will see him as anti USA but what he's saying is true. You can't over depend on someone else whether ally or not.
Europe has over depended on the US for defence because it Europe doesn’t want to pay for its own defence. The US has been trying to get Europe to pay for its defence for years, but Europe prefers to spend their taxes on nice things like healthcare, schools and roads
Especially when the saying goes "To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal."

Nordstream 2 explosion is a humiliation to Europe. Europe knew he’s humiliated by his allies yet dared not to face it.
Nordstream 1 was included in the package, not just NS2. I believe that it's a slow fuse bomb. This will change everything and spells the end of the US as a dominating power.

Why would Macron or the French care about Nordstream 2 ?
@Márcio Borges Reis because they were owners of it. The French also paid a part of it. It was not only the Germans who benefited. Because you think it is normal to leave it like that, and not try to know who did it ?
@Frederik Pedersen since you're so sure, why not encourage investigation? Another accusation without any proof. Besides, it does not make any sense.
Finally..at least someone with wisdom !!!!! Serve in the interest of France and Europe...NOT to the master in US !
The French people should be proud of this man and their country. France is the only country, at least as far as today, that has a man and a vision for an independent Europe.

It is only a democracy if the people get to decide their own fate. Democracy is just a word governments use to make people feel like they have a choice when they really don't.

It's interesting to see that France is willing to accept American support when it comes to the conflict in Ukraine and their own defense needs. However, when faced with the broader struggle between democracy and autocracy on the global stage, President Macron seems to adopt a policy of neutrality or isolationism. While this approach may appear to prioritize France's long-term defense interests, it's worth considering the potential consequences if the United States were to lose against China in the global competition for influence. The spread of China's system of governance could be detrimental to countries that share democratic values, such as France and the US. Given the common principles of freedom that these two nations uphold, it might be more beneficial for France's long-term security to actively support and collaborate with the United States in order to maintain a balance of power and protect shared values on the world stage.
"The spread of China's system of governance..."? Such narrative shows your lack of understanding on Chinese cultures and values. China in its thousands of years of history never, and don't have any intention of intervention in other country's system of governance. All the Chinese want are to doing business and making mutual beneficial relationship with other country. It's the US that keep making other countries succumbing to its hegemony by dictating that the whole world must worship the so called democracy system of governance. Those who don't listen to the US the CIA would be sent to the country to create local cracks and overthrow the democratic elected leader and then installed a puppet to serve the interests of the US instead of the local people. The US also wanted to create local cracks in China, by stirring up conflicts in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang, but it accidentally kicked a solid steel wall. That's why lately we could see the US politicians all gone mad by making baseless accusations on China.

Europe doesn't want to be a world leader, that's asking too much. They just don't want America chiding them when they sell themselves to dictators and autocrats.
Okay russian bot.
Európa svetovým lídrom? Bez surovín?! Bez Rusov a Slovanov? USA úskok ce Francúzsko.
@@gamedayswede a guy with "Gameday Swede" as nametag is calling a guy who put out a sensible statement a "bot". How rich.
A lot of us in Europe can speak more than one language, maybe not in a perfect way. To know another language can be regarded as to have an open mind (towards others).
Great man
Europe is Europe . It is not part of USA. Not many politicians have this sober thinking and courage.
Finally some leader talking sense in Europe. Whew....
That's right. The US should never involve itself in any European wars. Their WWII involvement was a huge mistake, and they really should pull out of aiding Ukraine now. Sending billions and billions of US citizens' hard earned $$ to Europe for this war...for what?
to show resolves to the EU for future friendship and allies with common interests, simple as that. Also, soon-to-be-expired weapons are sent, not the new stuff which cut down disposal and maintenance cost.
@@MeowyBrigade 😉
Europe has to take it's own stand - independent from the US and Nato!!
Nah...EU is a vessel of the U.S. and always will be.
You might have reservations about Macron, but at least he is speaking what the majority of Europeans think, I just wonder what our Chancellor Scholz thought. A very good speech. All we are asking now is to push for a peaceful settlement for the ongoing war. Our children need peace for them to help make Europe stronger.
Hey! Can some share link for text of this speech?
... a French patriot and a European en même temps.
A good speech indeed!
Didn't this guy do the first ever historical PRE-surrender in China earlier this week?
"I do whatever I want"....met with applause....
Wasn't that him saying is what authoritarian leaders do? I don't think he was referring to himself.
@@myla6135 I'm pretty sure in a "Democracy" he answers to the people and does their bidding. Not whatever he wants. Paris has been in protests and on fire for how long now because he refuses to listen to the people?
@@myla6135 people will definitely clip that part out and it'll be a UA-cam short, titled, "I do what I want - Macron the Monarch"
You misunderstood -- was it that you misunderstood the way he structured the sentence, perhaps? I can see how you might have been confused. You have to listen all the way to the time code 3:35 --- he's structuring the English in the way that Germans put the verb at the end of sentences. If you do *_not_* wait until the end you misunderstand the context of the entire sentence. He says that the callous notion of is what puts democracy at risk. I would challenge you to go back and listen more closely.
Strategic autonomy will only work when France stops deluding itself into thinking that France's interests are Europe's interests.
The lukewarm response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine did not win any favors from their Eastern European compatriots. US & UK did all the heavylifting in the response of the invasion because the French & the Germans failed to do so.
Levering the resources of a neo-colonial empire in Africa to win a favorable balance of power in the EU is also not helping for a more integrated Europe. If France had to import uranium for its nuclear power plants from Ukraine and not its neo-colonies in Africa, would they not have been less blind to the legitimate security concerns of Ukraine?
America desperately wishes for a stronger Europe, so that they can focus on the Indo-Pacific. France does not wish for a stronger Europe. France merely wishes to usurp the powers of its neighbors as its own and work out its Napoleon Complex on the global stage. If they wish for a more united, powerful Europe, France should be willing to give up more autonomy and influence. Could you see France being subservient to the democratic interests of countries like Estonia, Slovenia, and Austria in a federalized Europe? Yeah, didn't think so.
I respect the hell out of France. It is the only major military power in the EU that maintained its martial prowess and punches well above its weight. I even agree with Macron about the pension reform. It's just that if you really want a United States of Europe, the most powerful states have to be willing to disproportionately give up their influence and sovereignty. And France shows NO willingness at all to do so.
“Usurper” is a good word to describe these people.
polite and respectful speaker and audience, well done!
Free Assange!
Great Speech, he knows very well what is he talking about!
I agree with everything he says ! 👏👏👏
Lol he's an horrible president who says the opposite of what he's doing, why do you think he's hated in France?
Finally someone is Europe has woken up! It may be too late though.
More information regarding Eu united, need to Empower younger!!
Strategic autonomy ❤
A Multipolar world = A better world 👍
Multipolar literally is democracy internationally.
Isn't it what Putin wants? A multipolar world instead of unipolar (world under US)?
So far the proponents of "multipolarity" openly mean it as "multi imperialism": 5 countries divide the world in spheres of influence where they can kill and rape with no interference from each other.
Then why, today, France has joined the side of the struggle that is still trying to maintain unipolarity and a real global dictatorship? Why did France not support Russia, which began the first steps towards a multipolar world, which would eventually free France and other European countries from US hegemony?
🕓Time lapse 27:50 👀🤔 Here is all he wanted to say and as a EU state man he is absolutely right about👋👋👋👋👋👋👍👍👍👍
......and what is he going to do about making it happen, absolutely zero, and I'm sure China follows all the trade rules (Not), he mentions climate change, sustainability, security but not human rights, way to go Macron!?!
If you want to know how good this guy is ask Eastern Europeans. We have proven to be more practical and see the situations for what they were. Ask a Polish, a Latvian, an Ukrainian how they perceive this man. Their answer will be the most accurate one. Europe's downfall is being caused by such spineless politicians, keep cheering for him like you did for Merkel. Along with Trump they're direct responsible for the state of the world right now.
A real leader leads 🎉🎉
From Portugal. A Big YES to Macron!
Just because he mentioned spinoza? Turn your eyes to the iberophonic world, no help will come from elsewhere
so considerable that they gave the mic to a person stuttering hard
There is too much danger in the worshipping of a very narrow band of idealism in this world. In the pursuance of only their very own ideals, these people become dangerous and easily manipulatable tools who would infringe upon other people's and country's rights. We are supposed to be different and we certainly need more practicality, tolerance and diversity to make this world a better place.
the ideas of self determination and democracy is not equalled by autocracy
@@deankruse2891 Unfortunately, self-determination is never a solved problem in any democracy framework.
@@quippy8402 self determination for the nation state itself, and of course, self determination for its citizens. Human nature is not a problem to be solved but a project to be worked on, a tree to trimmed and fostered. It is why authoritarians always fail while democracies always win.
I used to think Macron is a joke but this speech changed my view on him.🎉❤
His English is so "sassy"...lv it! Great words Mr. E. Macron.
Macron's English is excellent compared to the older generations of French people. Europe is too big to depend on somebody else unless we want to be marginalized.
Proud of my president !!! ❤
Some of us Asian call him the second coming of De Gaulle, well certainly we wish he can live up to him
I bet all those pensioner's love him too
Democracy works only when each individual makes a rational decision to act in one own best interest. Individual liberty and social responsibility & participation (like obeying laws, paying your dues in time, participating in democratic institutions with desire to work for good and efficiency) are essential components of democracy. Anarchy cannot be democracy as long as the institutions are legitimately democratic. We should appreciate what we human have created presently, after thousands of years of socio-economic evolutions. The present system have faults and need more improvement but the way is participation in the system not the complete rejection of the system.
That's why the western democracy does not work and the Chinese democracy works.
Tell Macron that the Statue Of Liberty needs a face-lift & France needs to pay for it!
😂😂😂😂😂WORD😅😅
I do not agréé totally to our french président strategies of ruling France but I appreciate his boldness & straight forwardness , he is the first French President who speaks good English , 👍
