You are spot on with the advantages of the battery illumination C_Does! I run the TA-110 with a an Aimpoint ACRO on top. It trades a bit of FOV and weight savings for eye relief and battery illumination. The advantage is, not only can I adjust the brightness to the lighting conditions of the target area, I can run it without any illumination at all. This eliminates reticle blowout in sunlight and the need for tape on the fiber optic. You get a crispy, dark reticle for bright conditions. The red dot is also mounted forward where the fiber optic would have been, making it much easier to use for passive aiming through an NVS.
@@christopherkey3488 The main difference is weight and eye relief between the two models. With the shorter eye relief of the TA-02, a lot of guys run them on raised mounts. The piggy-back acro is already higher than the tallest standalone mounts for chin weld and heads up position. With longer eye relief the TA-110 doesn't need a riser.
I love a specific ACOG (TA02) for multiple reasons 1) Mounting, no leveling ect. 2) Unbelievably durable and rugged compared to any optic. 3) Front mounting dot (led only) at 12 o'clock which is perfect for nods 4) BDC reticle that is accurate to 500 and beyond. 5) Lightweight compared too many options. Thanks for the review.
@ that’s like choosing which child. Both are exceptional with the glass clarity. I honestly think the acog. I have the ta02 model with battery illumination and it gets bright enough to combat the sun if you need it. Yes you loose 2 lvls of magnification, but the field of view makes up for that. The short eye relief is the down side for some but I don’t mind it. I ultimately got one because of the review down by delta34 (UA-camr). I see it as a life long investment. I have the acog on a 13.9” PWS alpha it’s perfect for my needs. The creedo is going to be on an 18” spr style rifle.
True growth is realizing the TA11 is the apex ACOG. I hope you can get your mitts on a red crosshair TA11. I’d send you one of mine but I’m too distrustful of mail services these days.
For me the trade offs of the Ta-31 is worth the light weight and durability. Even going to the battery powered model starts to put the weight in line with some lvpo's. The short eye relief just doesn't bother me, but I've seen other shooters struggle with it. I have 2 Ta-31's, 1 Ta-50, and 1 Ta-44. For speed and light weight, a Ta-44 is amazing. 2x does let you punch out a bit further but I can shoot it almost as fast as a red dot. The perfect middle ground is the TA-50 though, and I'd love to see you review one of those. It is lighter than the Ta-11 but has the long eye relief. It's 3x so it almost matches the Ta-11 and Ta-31. It's field of view is decent and not near as good as the TA-31 but much better than any smaller acog. I think a lot of people just don't know how good the Ta-50 is. They even have a 7.62x39 reticle in it for the AK with a low mounting option, and it can still mount a top dot if someone wants. It's half the length and size of a Ta-31. Might be the best acog for short to mid range.
I've witnessed a Kahles LPVO pop its nitrogen seal after a few hundred rounds of being on a 5.56 rifle. I have a really hard time trusting 90% of LPVOs on the market, though the Nightforce ones seem tempting. The ACOG has been the only optic that has never given me a single issue. Some tips to anyone considering an ACOG, If you can't get part the short eye relief or aren't sure if you could there's the 3.5x versions. The TA11 and TA110, that sacrifice a bit of field of view in favor of extra eye relief. That's what I've run for a while and what I personally suggest as the safe option if you're unsure if the short eye relief isn't for you. The LED models are also superior imo because you get a much better res dot mounting spot on it and have full illumination control. No issues of being in a dark area aiming into a light area. Honestly, I prefer a shorter eye relief so that my optic can be mounted further to the rear and thus shift the weight and balance rearward where I personally find that I feel it less. Just some thoughts. I've run it for over a year now with thousands of rounds on multiple guns with it on there and have almost no complaints.
If someone already has a fiber optic ACOG and wants the LED illumination control, Shaffer Machining makes an adjustable fiber optic cover that basically gives a it LED functionality. (At least during the day)
Everyone is always talking about the tritium eventually dying. With real world military usage, I can tell you it's not something to worry about. If the ambient lighting is low enough that you'd need tritium, you would also need white light. In dusky, low light conditions, the fiber optic still works perfectly to illuminate the reticle. In short, used ACOGs are still gtg

I like most always thought the acog was cool but man, you never realize what a magnificent optic it is until you look through and use one. I absolutely understand now why it was so preferred by many militaries with it's durability, stupid easy usability, simplicity, etc. It's perfect to put in the hands of an 18 year old who's never fired a gun and teach them to shoot. I was concerned about the eye relief but to me it isn't bad at all. It is closer than most any other scope you've probably used but it isn't "bad," especially once you learn where to place your face when drawing. I specifically wanted the top mounted dot opposed to canted. My mindset was that it'd be easier to use with increases capability in awkward positions. I can lay all the way to the left or right and be able to use it vs. only on which side a canted one is one. Plus it's such a small, miniscule movement of the head to go back and forth. I was concerned about it's height over bore but again, after using it its way more intuitive than I was expecting and not difficult at all, and it's FAST. Faster than using a throw lever to change magnification for sure. Never used any other acog but I really like being able to adjust the brightness to match any light level and like that I dont have to worry about tritium eventually dying. It's just a swap of a cheap lithium battery and it's good for another few years. I've really come to love the ta02 acog a lot, that rifle is becoming my favorite to shoot and use.

Looks like the steiner s432 destroys everything for eye relief 3.5 inches thanks for bringing this eye relief issue up. You are right
Im 5'10" and didnt have any issues with one mounted on an M16A4. The issue is overstated imo
@@Ron-ni8uu The eye relief is 1.5" in most models. It is absolutely a nightmare to use when moving between firing positions. You can very easily have it kiss your eye pro when shooting.
@LtLemontwist that eye relief destroys it against primary arms acss.that reticle is perfect
