Suuuup guys! Can't tell you how long it took me to get that thumbnail, turns out photoshopping a camera is harder than scrabble tiles.... so I actually had to chuck it 😂 Enjoy the video guys! Who shoots on Canon?
Hey! I saw your last video on your original channel, so I'm new here. Would be great to see a video of recommendations for those planning to get a DSLR as a replacement for mobile shooting. Preferably budget ones. I'm thinking about Canon m50
Yo man, yeah okay I’ll have a think about that one! I’ve heard really great things about the canon m50, and I imagine it would be a really great first camera!
flhrroadking yo man, you might want to check out the Cinesytyle picture profile for the 90D, it will bring it closer to the log formats on the 5D. In terms of grading I like to keep things quite simple! Mainly just rec709 corrections and keeping exposures nailed really. I never tend to do any dramatic grades
There are really some things we all can tweak to get the most out of a camera and this really shows that well, great stuff Tom and great to have you back on UA-cam! :D
Tom Rich ofc mate, now more than ever we need to support each other :) think about new and creative ways to continue going forward and getting a daily dose of UA-cam make the days a bit more normal 😇 let me know if you feel like doing a photo-off or something, could make for great content and something new and fun!
Ah sorry man! Yeah this video is more focused on its video! You can check out my Instagram, the last 7 photos or so are 90D shots. Otherwise I might do a dedicated video on it!
I think you've convinced me to get the 90D next! Also, your background reminds me so much of Eastbourne! EDIT: Also, have you considered using any non-native picture profiles like Cinestyle or VisionColor? I use VisionColor now and love it, and that's been a big deciding factor in upgrading to newer Canon camera (coming from the 60D)
Hey Mateen! Oh yeah I know Eastbourne! Brighton boy here haha. No I still haven’t played around with Cinestyle, but I do want to everyone recommends it.
TheLTGamer I use the main VisionColor profile. I need to test out VisionTech because it’s a more saturated version, but VisionColor is actually already so good I feel I don’t even want to change. I’ve tried cinelook and it’s okay but it doesn’t allow any colour grading. So if you really like the look, it’s good. But I feel visioncolor, even being so nice out of camera, gives me that flexibility
Hey man, fellow brightonian here! I'm looking at buying the 90d, do you reckon it would make a good amateur doc camera? Also, do you have any recommendations for decent not too expensive standard zooms?
Louie Fletcher yo Louie! Yeah definitely a good choice of camera. Umm, I use a 24-70mm F2.8 L series which I bought used, which is great. Not too expensive. An alternative would be to get the F4 version whichll be even cheaper!
Hey man I'm looking at the 90d or eos r for hybrid shooting mainly photography, but also some car feature videos, which one would you recommend I go for?
It’s a tough call to be honest, I’m tempted to do a video about it. Sometimes it looks amazing, and sometimes it completely ruins the footage and looks jittery. Unfortunately, if it’s ruining footage sometimes that’s always bad because it just means I’d normally rather shoot 4K without the additional crop and then have the option to stabilise in post. I think you’re doing the right thing! Thanks for watching Andy!
I shoot on the Canon m50. I'm rocking the cinestyle profile. I kinda want to see how you would go about color grading the pp or if you know any vids that would help with grading cinestyle? Thanks.
Drez I haven’t played too much with Cinestyle! I have heard good things though so I might install it! Pretty sure there will be a lot of LUTs for cinestyle grading - not to say you need to use a LUT, I normally don’t but just play with colour wheels. What do you edit in?
@@ItsTomRich I edit in premier pro. I make good use of the colour wheels too and hsl secondary for skin tones or to make certain colours pop but if that is the case for colour grading then I guess im doing it right for the most part? I've made "custom luts" in premiere but i don't see much happening (i.e the image would just be a bit brighter)
Drez I think it depends what you’re tying to achieve yes! It sounds like you’re playing around and doing the right thing, I would encourage you to watch some start to finish grading tutorials to see what type of looks you like?
Hey Tom. Would love to hear your thoughts on how you compare the Sony A7III to the Canon 90D after you've had more time getting used to it. Know they are two very different cameras - and you've shared why you made the switch. It'll just be interesting to see if you'll miss the Sony or never look back...
Have to say biggest difference is simply the mirrorless to DSLR change. Things like always having to look through the viewfinder are weird to me! The canon colours are next level though...
@@ItsTomRich Thanks, man. I've had the 90D for a few months, but just starting to get to grips with it now. It's the first time I've had 120fps, so loving that. The battery life is awesome too. It's such a good camera for creating UA-cam content.
DSLR Rookie It really really is. I use this over my BMPCC for basically all of my UA-cam videos. Crispy and efficient! BMPCC is amazing but way more clunky so I save that for freelance projects.
I’ve not shot with it! But looks like a great little camera. It does have a 4K crop though, because the camera is APS-C which is like the 90D. So they both shoot cropped 4K.
This was so helpful 😊. I was debating whether to get the m50 or 90d because a lot of People have said they are the same. But I thgt to look into it. Once again thanks.
Hi Tom can I use sigma 85mm 1.4 art on 90d I got this camera I have been using it with kit lens but wanna upgrade to sigma 85 or 50 mm but am not sure if it will be ok I do beauty video here on UA-cam please I will appreciate your response 👍 I don’t know much about this whole camera thing lol
Yo yo, so we have to shoot in PAL not NTSC, and all other cameras I own shoot in 25fps and it’s the much more commonly used frame rate here because you don’t get interference with lighting HZ. Hardly any difference between 24 and 25fps in terms of look!
Iva Von They’re different lighting frequencies, well I think something to do with how the camera handles lighting frequencies! Basically if you shoot with NTSC in Europe, or PAL in USA, you’ll get a bunch of horrible flicker in your footage :)
Tom Rich also the canon 850d has 25p 4K and I’m wondering, I want to buy a camera for filming I don’t kinda care about 4K but it is something important! But I really want this cinematic look..so you recommend the 90d or the canon 850d? :/
I'm gonna be looking out for your 90D videos. Especially in-depth ones. I'm eyeing this camera for project works... It's beyond me why the EOS R has a crop on 4k and this doesn't. The fps sets for 4k and 1080p fits my style too. So, it would be really nice to get more info for this cam.
Yoh g! Sick video man! I've recently installed Cinestyle log on my 90D and it makes my footage look waaay better. It's free and easy to install, lots of videos about it online 🤟🏼 defs recommend. stay safe
Mum Moo You don’t need to! The 80D is a great camera. Why don’t you upgrade to a different lens instead of a new camera, I did a recent video on the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 and its a great choice!

Hey Tom, How about this camera for birding and wildlife??
Hey! Good if paired with a nice long telephoto lens!
Awesome ! I just bought this camera based off your review for my automotive vloggs ! Works great.
Was the color grade you changed to a preset setting in camera? Or was that your own adjustment tweaks?
Great video! What is your opinion about that the 90D only has the low end IPB-codec rather than the better All-I-codec that the 80d has?
