Remember also that Korra was kept secluded in the Southern Water Tribe for 13 years, while other Avatars traveled the world to train. So Korra doesn’t like when those who kept her there lie to her, and just finally wants to make her own decisions.

A lot of people are making it seem like Korra's decisions last episode held no logic when it completely does.
She had to choose between Tenzin, who was going to go on a glorified vacation to the air temples OR Unalaq that proved that he has the skills necessary to help her people of the southern tribe that are being plagued by dark spirits. (i think they were even dying from spirits too)
One was defenseless against an issue that targeted and affected the people in the place she grew up in whilst the other person has the exact skill needed to combat this problem. And to make matters worse, Tenzin was planning to leave the south pole to go to the air temples the next day.
Tell me what is not logical in Korra's thinking?

    • @sidekicks1403
      @sidekicks1403 Місяць тому +4

exactly... firstly she just found out tenzin and her parents has been lying to her and locking her in her whole life, then theres a new dark spirits threat, and unalaq is the only one who can teach her how to handle them. of cuz its logical to learn from unalaq.
it feels very ill-intended when ppl blame her for any of this

Unalaq and Tonraq remind me of ozai and iroh: older brother is a “disgraced” military commander and the ambitious younger brother who’s a better bender takes power. Older brother has one child, younger brother has two kids, a boy and a girl

I am so happy with your reaction to Korra... this season is a bit wonky with Korra but also hey she is a teenager that was kept away from others and most other teenagers/relatioships... she is really trying all of this for the first time - friendships and love interests - all of it.

Korra's just tired of the secrets and her dad and the white lotus holding her back. Pretty much they won't let Korra live her life.

And this was where I was like "I don't like him...."
People harp on Korra during these episodes and especially when she asks Tenzin to leave, so her uncle could teach her. She was told from the get go to master all the elements as well as the spiritual stuff..... which apparently Tenzin couldn't give her and her Uncle (ironically enough..... sus tbh) could. So she made an executive decision in what would be best for her training. To me that is honestly quite mature... even if she did act slightly teenagerish about. I could barely figure out what I wanted to eat as a teenager and here Korra is making decisions on her Avatar training lol.....
However, when this episode ended... I felt off about Unalaq. Who uses the word "united" when it comes to two nations/regions/autonomous regions/whatever you want to call the North & South. Seems fishy...

At first, I thought it was because Korra wants to be the best avatar, without needing help, but even she was told to let the previous Avatars guide her... just not in the right way. One of them should've been familiar with spirts & could've guided her. Kind of like how Aang did when he needed guidance. I wonder how the story would've changed if Korra had just talked to her previous Avatars.

After rewatching this after knowing what happens in later seasons I totally understand Korra's perspective. Aang got to travel the world;Roku got to travel the world but she didn't get the opportunity to until she forced herself into republic City where she immediately helped fix the problem.
Korra isn't right to act this way but it's 100% understandable because she hates secrets and almost everyone in her life kept things from her which made it easy for Unallaaq to manipulate Korra because she told her a few truths and fed her ego along the way.

Yeah just imagine being stuck in a isolated environment for ALL OF YOUR LIFE, with others constantly telling you what your supposed to be and who you're supposed to be... Yeah i sympathize HEAVILY with Korra and her personality. Being naturally gifted but not having any choice or freedom will really mess with your head when you do finally interact with the Real World

    Great video as usual!!!🤗❤
I wanted to come back on last ep's commentary and this one too. (sorry it's a bit long hahaha i highly empathize w Korra so I want to share it w everyone hihi)
In Korra's defence, she's lived 17 years completely isolated from the world bc Tonraq, Tenzin and the White Lotus decided to for no apparent reason. For now Korra has been lied to by them, bc they say it's Avatar Aang who requested they protected her until she mastered all the elements. But first, as Korra said in s1, keeping her locked up her whole life before becoming an adult is not smt Aang would have ever recommended. And second, she's grown to realize that those close men/authority figures around her have been controling her and limiting her and her ability to grow and learn. They've significantly suppressed her chances at developing social skills and completely prevented her from having an avatar-life experience during those 17 years when that is all that she's ever wanted and asked for. Plus last episode she learned that again, Tenzin and Tonraq have knowlingly been suppressing vital information concerning the balance of the southern water tribe in order to 'protect' her when it's literally her job as the Avatar to deal w that and when she's mastered all the elements (so they're fake excuse w Aang doesn't even stand anymore) and she's an adult now (s2 & 3 is when she's 18yo) so not only is she a master of all the elements and of the Avatar state (I mean she's so good at using it bc unlike Aang she loves being powerful and being the avatar, she doesn't fear it so she's able to tap into that power so easily and naturally) but she's also a grown woman perfectly capable of making her own decisions. So last episode, not only does she learn of more of Tenzin's and Tonraq's lies, but she sees them arguing w Unalaq right in front of her about her education and her future like she's not even there. Not only is that disrespectful but it's also extremely patronizing and infantilizing her. Korra's identity is based off her physical ability to protect and as the Avatar that's what she's meant to do. Plus in this ep Tonraq keeps on w that demeanor of not trusting that Korra can handle the situation and keeps trying to make decisions for her - that's why she tells him off everytime. So all of these things and interactions show her that she can't trust the closest people to her bc they don't trust her to make her own decisions. Even if she made the wrong ones, it's still her life, it's her decisions to make and hers alone, they can counsel her but ultimately she'll make the decisions she thinks are the right ones, and if she makes a mistake then she'll learn from them and deal with the consequences bc that's what life is all about: learning and growing. But we can see by the end of last ep that indeed, Tenzin doesn't have the experience or wisdom at that point to teach her what she needs to learn, she's feeling stuck and Unalaq is someone who can teach her right now things that will make her grow.
That's also why her arguments w Mako usually are around him always saying the wrong things to her and her imploding at him telling him he's picking their side: bc he's not considering her side of things. He's been seeing how Tonraq and Tenzin have been infantilizing her and instead of supporting her he goes to Tonraq actively participating in this cycle (honeslty resembling a sort of small scale (bc just w Korra's life) patriarchal oppression). Last ep when she's asking him for support and he took Tenzin's side, and when she asks him for advice he gives her support instead of advice, he's essentially showing that he's not listening to what she's asking of him. The only moment where he acts like a good boyfriend is when she asks him for advice and he honestly tells her that he doesn't know what the right decision is in that moment but that she has the best intentions and should follow her instinct bc it validates her in her opinion and that's an advice, at least there he's not giving an empty and conter-productive answer like before. But yeah apart from that moment, he is a bad bf. Plus also you're both right: they're not compatible at all, they're both emotionally immature and w fiery/strong-headed types of personalities and, as you said, have different and incompatible love languages.
So yeah Korra is still very hot-headed and impulsive so she's not using the best words to communicate all of these frustrations (in large part due to her lack of social skills bc of them), but she's totally right in *what* she's saying and she apologized to Mako about how she was expressing these things so she's really not in the wrong here.
Warning for the season haha - people say Mako is useless in s2 and honestly, they're not wrong xD
