- The wonderful 'George Coleman Octet' - Bobby Watson - alto sax; George Coleman - tenor sax; Sal Nistico - tenor sax (RIP); Mario Rivera - bari sax (RIP); Danny Moore - tpt and flugel (RIP); Harold Mabern - piano; Clint Houston - bass (RIP): Billy Higgins - drums (RIP) ..
It’s sad so many talented jazzmen are no longer with us. It’s wonderful that they’ve left us such beauty as this.
I just realized Harold comes in with the changes a measure too late in Billy's solo, and Billy doesn't go with him. That's why he gives Harold that smiling look when he starts playing, and that's why it sounds like Billy starts playing the time a bar before the horns come back in. If Harold had come in on time, Billy would have gone back to the ride cymbal right at the top of the ensemble section, instead of a measure before, but the rest of the band heard Harold come in and went with him.
Kind of a geeky bit of jazz trivia but interesting to me all the same. Nice to see such amazing musicians make a mistake from time to time - reminds me they're human just like us!
The awesome bari -sax played beautifully! !!!
The great Billy Higgins and his sweet pulse, keep everything grooving and swinging !!!What a joyful drummer God bless you Billy
Mario Rivera is some cat with that solo, BRAVO!!!
I watch this about once a week since I discovered it part 1 and 2

When I watch these two videos of this..I clap out loud at home on the ending. It's simply awesome
The front line horns are badass!!!..you gotta give the rhythm section some... man they're great.Billy Higgins,Clint Houston and Harold Mabern keep the groove.Love it.
Billy Higgins makes life worth living.
Great, great, great! I love them all!
Dam! Listen to how These Cats improvise, sing, dance and swing this song. GREAT!
Yea Mario Rivera's solo was fantastic. Great improvisation. Loved the way he shifted gears and turned up the intensity at 3'55 to cross the finish line in first place! Always the sign of a great band when one great solo inspires another great solo. Thank you for the posting bobjazz.
