    I was a crew chief on an ARCA team in the 2000’s, our last race was in 2009. The writing was on the wall then.
    Even back then, ARCA had no business racing at Daytona and/or Talladega, because so many drivers aren’t mature/talented enough to race at the bull rings, let alone the super speedways

    • @jimmy_olds
      @jimmy_olds 3 роки тому +13

      @@shawnwat5536 aero and suspension technology went from tried and true to needing flat plates, pull down machines, engineering assistance, and cubic dollars within a few seasons. There was pay to play (and Cup R&D teams) but that’s always been a part of it. The economy tanking in 2008/9 certainly played a huge impact on finding sponsors. ARCA also had a really crummy TV deal for awhile. Their purses were always pitiful and man it’s hard to justify a $35,000 car, a $25,000 engine, several sets of tires to bring home an $800 payday ... Plus travel, plus the race hauler, crew guys, food, etc etc
      We had to send all of our cars to NC to have the front snouts cut off trying to keep up with the bump stop evolution, they constantly needed reskinned also to keep up with aero, just on and on.
      I know they eventually went to a spec body and engine package but it wasn’t enough to save the grassroots, blue collar, family based race team which was the cornerstone of the series.

      @@jimmy_olds I have to agree with all of it. I had no idea the payout was so low though. Imo, the Arca series should be as stock as possible and stick to short tracks with the addition of a few road courses. I always felt that wrecking someone intentionally in the series should have severe consequences. Not all these teams can afford to rebuild the car in a few days.

    I feel that Tony Stewart and other older figures in the sport are correct in what they've been saying about the sport. Younger drivers, many of whom come from well-off families, have no respect for their competitors. Not having to work for their equipment or have consequences for this driving style definitely plays a role. Wish we could see more Mark Martins out there.

      It is the culture that it breeds. They make them believe they are not there to make friends and since they have dear old dad's backing they can let it hang out and crash competitors. Stuff like that is uncalled for. ARCA needs to control the kids. Fines and parking these drivers need to be looked at. By the looks of it they might need to bar dear old dad from the track too since they like to fight too.

    • @chrisguardiano6143

      As an F1 & Indycar fan I agree 100% with you. You don't see this kind of blatant wrecking in Formula 3 or the Indy Lights even though the majority of drivers in those series are around the same age and come from similar backgrounds as the ARCA drivers. The reason why that is the case is because it is far more expensive to replace parts on an open wheel machine than it is a stock car in general although costs have gone up in recent years. If a driver wrecks too many times in either Formula 3 or Indy Lights, they are dropped by their team in most cases because their driving style is seen as a financial liability to the team. Also most of if not all of the drivers in those series raced go carts as kids and learned quickly the importance of using their driving skills to win as opposed to ramming competitors off the track and lot of what I said about parts also applies to go carts. As a result young open wheel drivers are way more considerate of others on the track and realize the importance of working hard to get better equipment and move up the ranks.

    When Kimmel retired you lost your veteran that drew in crowds and taught young drivers the etiquette of racing at a high level. Similar to the decline of trucks. Back in the day you had the old drivers, like Hornaday, Bodine, Sprague, Musgrave, Benson, Crafton, and the list goes on. You lose the veterans, and replace them with teens, and a slogan like "names are made here", it all results in a diaper league and a fanbase that doesn't want to treat professional racecar drivers like adults. This crap is why I was always part of the minority on cup drivers dropping back. Helps drivers learn.

      JGR prob had him run full time in ARCA this year to hopefully get sponsorship so when he moves up to trucks/xfinity JGR won’t have to fully fund the season. Unfortunately for them it looks like no one wants to touch Gibbs. I mean hell Larson has more sponsors than Gibbs and the narrative is that no one wants to sponsor him. Looks like the new narrative should be no one wants to sponsor Gibbs.

Burton is going to Wood Bros but I wouldn’t be surprised if Gibbs car is unsponsored for majority of the season.

    ARCA has always been a wreck fest series but I don’t recall any 16 year olds when I once watched the series years ago. The 16 year old kid needs to be parked and has shown he doesn’t have the maturity level needed. Even a 17 year old, in my opinion, do not need to be driving these cars. These kids grew up in local tracks where people thought they were great. Put them in a series where the talent is better and you see very quickly many of them will never in the xfinity series let alone cup.

    ARCA reminds me of the old CARS series that was at one time known as the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series. CARS ended the series when car counts were getting too low and decided to focus on late model racing instead.
    ARCA decided that the cars needed to be specifically built for the series and that hurt a lot of teams. The series was built on being a series that people could get old Winston Cup cars and be able to race.
    With the change to a new car in the Cup Series and the move away from teams building the cars, there could’ve been some positive moves made if ARCA used old Cup cars still. A lot of teams are going to have to sell a bunch of cars that essentially won’t be raced anymore. ARCA would’ve been a great place to use those. Plus if you had more teams coming into ARCA then that gives some of the people losing their jobs in NASCAR a place to go instead of likely being out of the sport.

    ARCA at one time was a really good series.....breevak, Steele, horton, bowsher and so many others made it a great series. Now it's a rich kids play ground with a few old school racers hanging on. Just like with everything else nascar touches...they killed it.
