Quick story: due to a very toxic father I would be homeless through my teens. 17 year old then (17 was different from 17 now) and I was in a homeless shelter. I met a guy who had recently freed from jail, he was about 22-25 years old. We hung out and one day he suggested that we rob a gas station... this was an old school small gas station... This genuinely was not what I was about nor wanted to do... We waited and watched but thankfully it never happened. That one small interaction and near decision would have destroyed my life. I've never forgotten about it and understand now at 48 how devastating that would have been. I've travelled the world, own a business and live a clean life.
I was once part of a gang I thankfully god open my eyes I spend 2 years fighting a case but when I was in there I meet this one guy he had the same tattoos I had on me so I knew he was part of my gang I started to ask him were he was from we shook up I remember he told me he was from the north side of Chicago by the look on that mans face I could tell something was not rite with him you could literally see he was empty inside I asked him what he was in for he told me first degree murder I at that time I had a aggre. Bat. With deadly weapon my self so I asked him how much time he was looking at he told me it was his last court hearing and everything pointed to him getting 45 years in jail he already been there 10 years when he told me 45 all of a sudden my 5 years did not sound that bad we kept talking a bit I asked him if the boys were hooking him up with some money for the work he put in but his answer was my boys don’t even come by no more in here your only boys are in here with you he asked me if I could hook him up with anything he proceeds to tell me he just got out of the hole I had been there for a week for a fight I got into so I knew how that sucked I asked him how long were you in there for his answer left me cold he was in there 9 months for stabbing another inmate he could see my reaction was a stun one he told me young brother think about what your doing in your life in here the only people that come and visit you is your family the boys come the first year around but then they stop coming in here there’s nothing they could do to break me down anymore I could see that man did not care if he lived or not anymore his eyes we’re lifeless that conversation with that man changed my life he was 24 years old and probably will never get out but may god bless that brother he opened my eyes

When I was sitting in my cell, all I could think about was how I let myself down and how I dragged my family into the pits. Those people on the street that call you brother disappear real quick when you're locked up. Not worth throwing your life over someone else's bullshit. Keep your head down and continue to succeed.

I am impressed by Joe's honesty and how open he is about his past. This show has inspired me to share some of my stories and experiences that are seedier. btw, he was in for this exact thing. Armed robbery, except he didn't rob a bank so it wasn't federal. But it was for 3 different places. He was 17 yrs old & turned 18 in county. I miss him so much.

I really appreciate what your doing, its all a reminder of how fortunate I am and helps me to not take my freedom for granted. I've done a lot of things that could have landed me in prison, with 27 years of hardcore drug addiction and all bad choices that come with it,, I don't deserve to be a free man . Today at 43 with one year clean and sober I constantly reflect on my past wondering how I got away with so much.. I've only had a handful over over nights in county jail for unpaid traffic stuff and have never had a felony but only because I never got caught. I'm nOt saying this to show off and I'm certainly not any smarter or better than anyone. Only thing I can figure is the man upstairs simply didn't see fit for me to experience prison... When people say "life's not fair" I agree and say "it's a good thing too because if it was I'd be in a lot more trouble"

Great stories brother. I see a lot of similarities to my mentality as a youngster. I'm lucky cause I learned my lesson at 16, never wanted to be in a cell again. But it still effected my life into adulthood and the way people you love look at you.

Where I'm from they just place u in a special cell separate from everyone else. Shitty part is that your only allowed out to get your food and then u have to go straight back to your cell. U also are being supervised at all times by a guard thats only job is to sit on a fucking chai that's about 10ft away u. There is always a guard there. It sucks. U litterly do not get one single second of privacy
Apparently average bank robbery (not doing the safe) is U.S something like $2,500-$3,000 cash... which is defently not worth risk over reward my opinion
My brother did 15 years for armed robbery. Got out last summer but went back less than a month later for Armed Robbery, Firearm while under disability, and went on a police chase spanning three states. Since he was 17 he has probably been free for a year. Totally institutionalized.

Man, I've been around since your channel first arrived on UA-cam. Was looking up what prison was like cause my uncle-in-law has been serving since I was a kid. I wondered what it was like in state federal and other kinds of prisons, and I found your channel when i was looking up the word. I'm 20 years old now, going to college still and trying to snag a job and all that shit. You know, the life kind of shit. He's getting out soon hopefully on parole and i might be mid-housing him, but I don't know. Anyways, I just wanted to share how I found your channel. I've been lurking and watching your shit for a good amount of time now, and I wanted to say its great to see how far your channel has gotten. And it's good to see someone half-hard-boiled talking about their time, giving examples of how shitty it can be to serve time for things you've done. It sends a better message to show them pictures though. Things like that, what it looks like, Smells like, and seems like in a good amount of detail. yes they do get paid this much, without owning their own truck. i passed my CDL just last week. and they are desperate for truckers

Great stories brother. I see a lot of similarities to my mentality as a youngster. I'm lucky cause I learned my lesson at 16, never wanted to be in a cell again. But it still effected my life into adulthood and the way people you love look at you.

Where I'm from they just place u in a special cell separate from everyone else. Shitty part is that your only allowed out to get your food and then u have to go straight back to your cell. U also are being supervised at all times by a guard thats only job is to sit on a fucking chai that's about 10ft away u. There is always a guard there. It sucks. U litterly do not get one single second of privacy

My brother did 15 years for armed robbery. Got out last summer but went back less than a month later for Armed Robbery, Firearm while under disability, and went on a police chase spanning three states. Since he was 17 he has probably been free for a year. Totally institutionalized.

Man, I've been around since your channel first arrived on UA-cam. Was looking up what prison was like cause my uncle-in-law has been serving since I was a kid. I wondered what it was like in state federal and other kinds of prisons, and I found your channel when i was looking up the word. I'm 20 years old now, going to college still and trying to snag a job and all that shit. You know, the life kind of shit. He's getting out soon hopefully on parole and i might be mid-housing him, but I don't know. Anyways, I just wanted to share how I found your channel. I've been lurking and watching your shit for a good amount of time now, and I wanted to say its great to see how far your channel has gotten. And it's good to see someone half-hard-boiled talking about their time, giving examples of how shitty it can be to serve time for things you've done. It sends a better message to show them pictures though. Things like that, what it looks like, Smells like, and seems like in a good amount of detail. Paint them pictures in words, and let their imagination take them to that place. Anyways. You take it easy my man. Greetings from Texas.
