      I am from the finance area, and sometimes deliver "finance for non-financials" training to employees of healthcare device companies, so we are moving in each other's direction. 😊

    I always see this in the textbook but in past exam papers its a different story, especially the Rent and Rates A/C

    the only thing that confusing me is the first example. I understand why we debit and credit assests for it, but couldn't it also be an expense sine they are buying it? the forklift

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  Рік тому +3

      Good thinking! Once you started using these fixed assets (in this example a building and forklift truck), you record an annual depreciation charge, which is a debit to expense and a credit to accumulated depreciation on the balance sheet (which effectively reduces the net book value of the asset). Have a look at my video on depreciation to understand how that works: ua-cam.com/video/6SY8s1_OEro/v-deo.html

      Take it step-by-step. I suggest to start with the accounting equation ua-cam.com/video/OYql7Y9NnBg/v-deo.html and double entry accounting ua-cam.com/video/EibibVFEkvk/v-deo.html and then come back to this video about T-accounts.

    is Present Value a debit or credit

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Daisy! Neither. Present value is a term used in investment analysis (Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, etc) and is the opposite of future value: ua-cam.com/video/N-lN5xORIwc/v-deo.html Debit and credit are terms used in accounting to indicate where you "place" a journal entry: ua-cam.com/video/n-lCd3TZA8M/v-deo.html

    Where is dividend

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  11 місяців тому +1

      Debit equity credit cash. In the cash flow statement, you find dividends in the "cash from financing activities" section, as a cash outflow.
