The great thing about Still Game is not only is it really relatable for us in Scotland but the writing is so good you actually start to really care about the characters.
You get hooked into the story lines after 2/3 minutes with out realising 30minutes packed with engrossed fun you never want to end most endings are great you get plenty of buck for the content, although I was never to keen on the ending of last episode.

The chat about how long simce each wife had passed was such a beautiful sad scene. Broken up perfectly by a joke. Sums everything up about Still Game, great show.
I'm already laughing anticipating the reaction to the pub scene, I just know it's going to be unreal. The kid said 'fancy a game of Gran Turismo' It wasn't a huge show across the UK as it was only broadcast in Scotland at the time though as the years went by it made it onto the tv channels that show re-runs of old shows and a lot more people became aware of it. The whole thing came to an end with a sell out live show in Glasgow that ran for well over 200 shows. It seems like yesterday but it's quite a while back now. The bit with Isa going round the houses to tell the story is typical of how Ford Kiernan (who plays Jack) and Greg Hemphill (Victor), wrote the show to give everyone a fair shout of screen time. The writing and acting is hugely under rated, they weave comedy with sadness in a way few other shows manage to do.
I thought it was very popular throughout the UK, perhaps I'm mistaken, I remember everyone talking about it years ago here in England. It's simply brilliant 👍
@gwaptiva It's Gillies (he's the Ginger lad) not Kelly's. Winston introduced them all to Victor as he walked up first time. It is hard to understand though and I'm from Scotland. ❤️

It was big in Scotland but had more of a cult following in England. I got into it after a Scottish work colleague lent me a DVD set of a sketch show called Chewin the Fat in which the Jack and Victor characters were born. I must admit I am very impressed by how you are coping with the Scottish accents. A lot of English people have massive difficulties translating them. And I will echo what everyone else has said - as brilliant as it is in this first series it gets much better as it goes along!
For me so early into this programme it showed it's potential..Brilliantly written comedy but laying the groundwork for beautiful n deep characters led to amazing comedy and entertainment..For me one of the greatest sit coms of all time..And theres been some greats🙏
Still Game went for 9 seasons and it is one of those rare shows that lasted a long time without "jumping the shark" so to speak. For me, it's something that I come back to on a pretty regular basis. It's just good fun and so relatable. It's good to see you enjoying yourself watching it.

Glad to see you reviewing this series. It really does get better as it carries on. You probably have been told but the main characters are played by actors that are very much younger than they portray. The series was a spin off from a sketch show called ‘Chewin the Fat’ you probably have guessed but there are a lot of estates in the uk like the one in the series. They were built between the fifties and the seventies to replace the Victorian slums. They offered a nice new alternative to that. However the experiment largely failed and most of those estates became pretty grim places to live and best avoided. Some were really rough places to be. Vic jack and winston are all pensioners. People like them would be on a state pension, which is really low and very difficult to live on. Often choosing between heating and eating. So anything that they can get cheaply would be considered.
one of the most iconic episodes in the show, I used to cater for the cast of a Scottish soap opera and the other sister LOL was in it, was weird seeing her with all the makeup off, she was such a lovely person.
There's a thing on UK TV called Christmas specials. All the best TV shows gets a special episode at Christmas that is Christmas themed. 30:45 It was big in Scotland (which had a population of around 5 million when it started, but is around 5.5 million today) where it was shown on *BBC One Scotland* and got around a million viewers on average (same amount as successful shows for Channel 4), but not so big in the rest of the UK, as shown by the channel it was on, which was *BBC Two* where it got a below average 3 million viewers on average. With most networks, the most watched shows are on the channel with the lowest number, so in the *BBC's* case that's *BBC One,* followed by *BBC Two,* then *BBC Three* then *BBC Four.*
In Scotland, Still Game and the sketch show it came from, Chewin’ The Fat, we’re must watch shows. Talked about by pretty much everyone, they reflected what was happening in Scotland. If Scotland can be known for anything other than the touristy stuff, the ability to laugh at itself has to be up there! If you are the subject of the jokes, you can be sure of two things that you’ve succeeded in, either complete disaster or blinding success! Depending on how the jokes are worded will define your popularity! As for Still Game getting better, it got taken to the stage, same cast. It never toured. It played the biggest single indoor venue, The Hydro in Glasgow, and sold it out completely, for a month! A few years later, they done it again but limited for two weeks! Series 1 they are finding their feet, developing the characters. They really are warming up!
My generation grew up with chewing the fat, followed a few years later with still game, it's what you talked about with your pals the next day at school. We've grown up with those characters and it's so relatable. We all know people in our streets and communities who are just like them, I even have an uncle "Tam" and he is every bit as tight-fisted as Tam Mullen in Still Game.
If the joke flew over your head in the irish pub, they ask what part of ireland your from and the landlord says springburn which is a part of glasgow 😂
I used to work trains to Springburn when I was a guard(conductor). Based at Helensburgh. After I left the Navy at Faslane. Jeez. Seems so long ago now.
man, you must be loving this, nothing better than discovering an amazing boxset when its finished and you can binge watch start to finish, lucky for you, there is so many amazing episodes, in series 2, look out for "cairds" and "brief" series 1 and 2 are regarded as the best, the others are amazing also, but the 1st 2 series are outstanding
I love these reaction videos. As a Glaswegian, Still Game is a huge part of our pop culture and its great to see that the show appeals to lots of people outwith Scotland. Keep em up. I can't wait to see your reaction to some of the later episodes. Also I don't really understand the "the show gets better" point. In my opinion, Still Game started off great, and stayed that way throughout.
Glad you like Still Game this episode is a great episode Still Game is a tv show that i don't think ever gets boring. When you finish watching all the episodes of still game you should watch the 2014 still game live show and the still game live show from 1999.
In Scotland they took the series and made it into a live show, it sold out for over 30 nights in an arena that has a capacity of over 14,000 ….Still Game is quoted on the daily here still almost 20 years on, it’s a national treasure 😂
So glad you are reacting to this show, I only just recently got into it myself, and absolutely love it, and was going to go through the series once again at some point in the future. But now that you are watching it, I'm just hauling up a chair and will sit along side you for the joyride and the many laughs that are still to come in the coming weeks. Good on ya mate! 😆📺
We really uses to be fortunate when it came to Sitcoms over the years. Sadly like America we don't seem to have them like we used too much anymore. Still Game was special in that it stayed good from start to finish. Some of my favourite episodes come halfway through at about Series 4-6. "Hyperdales" and "Caird's" are my favourite but I could happily sit through any given episode.

I'm in my 50s and me and my pals are from exactly the same council house schemes and pubs as these characters, we're just slightly younger. This series is one of Scotland's best exports.
When I moved to Brig'ton, East end of Glasgow, I tried a pint in every pub down the London road to see which I would prefer as my local. The first one, a guy got shot just like that. I think I was the first out of the door.

Your question at the end of the video there Eclectic, Still Game is top of most Scot's favourite comedy programmes aside from maybe 3 or 4 others tops. For me, it's number one, and yes, people are right - it gets better, so if you're enjoying it the now, start wearing adult diapers for the inevitable "pissing yourself laughing" 😅

2:28 Little error: Victor says Craigbank instead of Craiglang. However in reality they are actually in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. So it is easy to get the names mixed up.
5:31 to 5:33 He said do you want to come to my friend's house for a game of gran turismo?
Craigbank line always confused me. I thought it was an outtake they didn't notice.
Edith features in a number of episodes and they are always hilarious.
as a scotsman only thing wrong with your uploads is most scots binge watch them like 3 or 4+ at a time haha. you will notice he says craigbank in the charity shop an error which wasn't fixed as they're from craiglang not craigbank 😂
Cheers for that. I've seen this episode a few times and only noticed it this time. Thought I'd misheard at first
Yeah I noticed the Craig bank balls up aswell- funniest line for me was jack saying "busier than a one armed cabbie with crabs" pissed myself at that one 😂😂

Finding this in my feed , just makes my day. Never clicked so fast. Keep em coming
Love your reactions to one of the most delightfully funny but also sweet and emotional comedy programmes from Scottish TV.
Re watching, needed to keep happy. Thank you for saving.
The kiddo said,....
"Guys u coming to his house for a game of gran turismo"! 😂😂
He asked do you want to come with me to gillys for a game of gran turismo. Gully must be the pal
They actually took a stage show/play and made it into a TV series.
@@stuartcook8823 very true, and also the pilot copy of the show was already on sale in the Barras before it even aired on the BBC 😂
@@CoplandFront5 I have a VHS copy of the original show from the Cottier Theatre somewhere 👍
I was at the live show twice 😊
And the venue had to postpone U2 playing too!
The kid said do u want to go around "insert name heres" house to have a game of Gran tourismo, a racing game from the 2000's
It’s a shame you never really got the hilarious scene in the bingo, great reaction thanks
You're be amazed how young these to actor's are there only in their 40s thay play older people so well
One of the best sitcoms laughed at every episode, tho only fools and horses too 😂
We really uses to be fortunate when it came to Sitcoms over the years.
The kid said "You away to the gillies with us for a game of Grand torismo?"
Still game was huge in Scotland right up untill the very last season
Kid said "Comin' up tae gillies wae us tae git a game eh gran turismo?" Translation - "You coming up to gillies house with us to have a game of Gran Turismo?"
'they have done this lady up like an orc bitch' may be the best sentence iv ever heard.
This was huge in scotland im from england stumbled across it and was an instant fan even though its already good it does get better once u understand the characters more
The noise of the clock ticking durin the downtime scene gives me anxiety lol its so fkn sad ❤
Your videos are so brilliant. Absolutely love your content. Have a wonderful day, lots of support and love from Glasgow, Scotland 🏴 ❤
Funny stuff, and still well observed, but with that very particular twist that it puts on things. Thanks Alan. Be well.😉
I'm in my 50s and me and my pals are from exactly the same council house schemes and pubs as these characters, we're just slightly younger. This series is one of Scotland's best exports.
Probably my favourite episode it was the first episode I ever saw it was the Saturday late night repeat on bbc 2 and I was hooked.
What the kid just said went over your head ...my head too mate.
When I moved to Brig'ton, East end of Glasgow, I tried a pint in every pub down the London road to see which I would prefer as my local. The first one, a guy got shot just like that.
I think I was the first out of the door.
The police came door to door looking for information 😂.
This is one of my favourite shows.
I choked on my tea 😂
I don't remember seeing that episode.
Hehehe lol they're the BEST teachers of Scottish lingo EVER... Pumped in da lavi... bet youtube miss that one mate! 😅
Wait until you get to the pot of pish episode and the episode called 'doctors! My 2 favourite episodes! As Boaby would say ' you'll pish your frillies!
I loved this show from episode 1.
"Are you coming to Gillies with us for a game of Grand Turismo" a computer game. Lol.
Still Game is just brilliant.
£1.30 a pint, its now probably £4.80 in a pub like that in the toon
I knew the nuggie would have you bent double 😂 🤛
Really glad you are liking our way of life 😊
5:31 I'm 99% positive he says 'Coming wee the guys for a game of Gran Turismo' the PlayStation racing car game, I'm Scottish and even I struggled with what he said, it took a few tries.
Ye comin oer tae Gilly’s wee us fir a game o’ Gran Turismo … clear as a bell!
Ya see, here in scotland we slang everyday words. Mix that with accents and thats why it sounds like we're talkin a different language. My work collegue is polish.. he came here speaking almost perfect english. When he got here he thought hed landed elsewhere as he couldnt understand a word. Now he speaks fluent scottish slang. Its all about the slang bud
Kid said "guys, coming up to play gran turismo"
5:30: "coming up Gilly's house for a game of Gran Turismo?"
More still game please my friend 😂🙏 greetings from 🏴
When they asks "which part of Ireland are you from" and he answers "Springburn".
Springburn is actually a part of Glasgow. 😄
The wee man said " are you coming to Ghillies with us for a game of gran turismo. "
The kid asks Wisnton if he wants to go back to his place and play gran Turismo, car video game hahah
Hi came on to tell you what kid says but few messages there already these to jack and victor will grow on you the show was huge here in scotland and think did well in rest of uk 2 keep up the good work love watching your channel
This series has been very enjoyable to watch and you've got my sub! I see you have reacted to some Mitchell and Webb in the past and another British sit-com I highly recommend you watch is Peep Show if you haven't done so already. Take care.
Still game is the biggest show Scotland has to offer so you could say its big yeah but they are right it does get better even the newest seasons are great
Rule 1. Don't take someone for a first date to your local pub because the bastards there will take the piss at every opportunity😆
Glad I found your channel, means I can watch still game for the 113543th time lol
Great reaction soo glad ur loving it 👍
As a Scotsman, you’re doing well to understand the patter, even the English struggle with the lingo.
This show was massive back in the day, but only in Scotland really
I think you cope with Scottish accents and humour really well. We alter so many English words that's quite a feat, well done. You'll gradually pick any words still throwing you up as you go on. Enjoy.
One of my favorite still game moments of all time , when the ugly sister leans in for a kiss and victor gives her knuckles on the head. Never gets old and your reaction was fantastic 16:12
First time I had a laugh today. Thank you.
Hard to believe but it really does get better, even though the early ones aren’t poor , the most iconic Scottish comedy of all time without doubt
