    Probably one the most helpful videos I have watched. Finding out my that I have low profile has helped me to improve my swimming. I incorporated this with dead-man’s float from TI, and I must say, we continue to learn. Thank you.

    This is 100% correct and priceless info. I tested this and have a low profile. My weaknesses are as you listed reaching too high in the water instead of swimming downhill (currently working to correct) and my neck used to not be as relaxed ( i have worked on this but still struggle sometimes during hard sets when i get tired and my stroke starts to fall apart a bit). Thank you for this video 😊

    done this with several swimmers and of course, myself. men and particularly,muscular men always have a low profile and most women have a high profile.. it's mainly about specific gravity and coach mandy's suggestions help solve the problem and it is a problem with males.

    The audio is really good on this video. Please make sure you use the same techniques on all parts of your videos. It seems like when you're voicing over pool clips, the audio goes in a different source and it's really hard to hear.

    I tried this and turns out I have a loooowwww profile. Unsurprisingly my rotation is great never had a problem swimming flat but I feel like I am swimming uphill a lot and have actually been working on extending deeper since my fingertips tend to float up as I extend. Great video and explains a lot ❤

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  5 років тому +1

      Ravish Khundiwala it looks like you are probably lifting your head when trying to breathe. This places your mouth lower in the water which makes it harder to breathe. Practice relaxing your neck and stay as low as possible. The video I have shared below will really help with your practice. I would advise implementing this rehearsal to help with where you need to be! Click the video below:

    I've always wondered if it is possible to not have a floating point when you try to plank with your face up? Every coach i've known saids that it is different for everybody but everyone has his floating point, but I have really long and heavy legs (cyclist background) and for the love of god can't seem to find that point. Is it possible that I just don't have one? I seem to remember Ryan Lochte saying that he also doesn't have one...

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  4 роки тому

      devidia yes, you are correct. Looks like you have a low profile or do you mean your entire body sinks to the bottom of the pool?

    • @devidia
      @devidia 4 роки тому

      @@SWIMVICE No just the legs. I also have a chronic hamstring issue which makes it impossible for me to train my kick hard so i can't really use that to keep my legs up. Do you have any tips or excercises so i can make my kick as effective but relaxed as possible despitd my complications?

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  4 роки тому

      devidia okay, that makes more sense. You have a low profile which 9 times out of 10 most guys have (its very common). Nothing wrong with it at all. It’s just important to know so you are able to prioritize specific things to practice to keep your entire body line on the surface. I have a freestyle stability play list going through a majority of these priorities in video. I also have a community post info graphic on this very topic (tap on the community tab of the SWIMVICE home channel page). Here is the playlist:
      ua-cam.com/play/PLtkHLt3sCyVrK9sbp6pvXMrenbBHlGF6V.html
      Also, I am going to be a launching a video this week on foam rolling for your legs so stay tuned! Kicking harder will not make your legs rise, it actually does the exact opposite and it’s physically harder to sustain.
      Hope this helps answer your questions. 🏊🏼‍♂️🙌🏽🙏🏽 -Coach Mandy

    I would have to disagree with a low profile being a benefit, I would rather be a floater! My legs sink like a brick to the bottom of the pool, in fact they don't get far off the bottom in the first place. I have been practicing TI for 18 months mostly with the Effortless Endurance course and a 1 day workshop but I always feel like my legs are too low in the water and there is way too much drag. I tried varying how deep I spear but I seemed to make more progress overall if I aim more or less horizontal. Spearing deeper made my chest sink lower and probably raised my hips, but overall it seemed harder to move through the water and also made it much harder to breathe. I struggle with breathing anyway, but when my chest goes deeper I end up lifting my head to reach the air because if I just turn my mouth is still under water. Help please!

      Same with me

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  5 років тому

      Tim Spencer I definitely understand how you feel. If you see the example I show I’m not perfectly on the surface either I sit pretty low since I am leaner than I used to be. There are still benefits to this position. To answer your question why your head position sits lower is because you’re pressing too much from your chest which then makes your head position sit lower in the water and then when you try to breathe all you see is water so you don’t want to press your face down you want to release the tension from your neck and allow the water to support your face. - Coach M

      @@SWIMVICE Does the 2 beat kick still work well if you have sinky legs? I swim quite slowly (2:20/100m, 40SPM) with a low stroke rate because I get too out of breath if I try to increase it and it feels like I am rushing. In what is supposed to be the "glide" phase while the arm is recovering, especially on a breathing stroke, I feel my legs sinking and the instinct is to open the legs wide to gain stability. My kick is ineffective anyway but I think my poor 2-beat is better overall than my poor 6-beat, but maybe leads to more sinking?
      I have been trying to think about my balance while swimming to keep the chest down and legs up, but it doesn't seem to be helping and I end up with backache in the lower back. I have back problems anyway and quite a tight arch in the lower back so I don't know what to do while swimming to be balanced and streamlined while not aggravating my back. If I relax then my legs sink even more.

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  5 років тому

      @@timspencer9650 From what you are describing the route of the issue is not your kick...it is the fact that you are over rotating which is a significant balance issue. This causes the legs to splay and your lower back to arch. Once your arm exits the water is essentially stacked on top of your other shoulder you are sinking. Your body will react by trying to balance externally to keep you as high up as possible. Where to start is to focus on balance and how you start off the wall. Here are a couple videos to get you in the right mindset, context, and understanding of how you will need to be positioned first before addressing the timing of your kick. Click below:

      @@SWIMVICE Interesting, thank you. I have heard much about "scapular plane" before but never any advice about the push off. i never paid much attention to it since I am not racing and the further i go with the push, the less I actually swim! Might be a bit off topic but when I push off with even moderate force, if I look down so my spine is in line, the water pressure makes my goggles leak or dislodges them. I have to look forward so the pressure pushes them onto my face instead. I have used various goggles but always the same problem. No idea how racers can dive in and not lose their goggles. Is there a trick, other than just making them really tight?

      henrik i wherever you feel comfortable. I showed both ways with the arms just floating and with them extended. As long as you are not putting too much attention to your arms to balance. This way you feel your true profile in the water. I have a lower profile as well as you can see in the video. -Coach M

      @@SWIMVICE Thanks, tested this a bit today and I definitely have a low profile. Had my arms bent with the hands below my head, just like shown in 1:42 and my legs dropped down. I have spent a lot of time on balance earlier on, and still do drills on it from time to time. I can now mostly get a decent balance but this requires arms extended in front and keeping my back flat with abs and lower back to stabilize it.
