    • @manybikes

    went on icy snow recently with k60 ranger front nad motoz adventure rear.
    ranger was almost acceptable, but motoz was almost completely useless despite lowered pressure, provided zero grip ;
    temp was -8*C, but almos all roads were frozen ice under snow so pretty much the worst case scenario. I think in regular, wet snow id be fine, especially front ranger.
    Good thing about knobbies though, even when got stuck few time, rear despite zero grip eventually will "dig" into ice /frozen snow, get to normal surface and start gripping, so never got "really" stuck ;

    Found the tyres offered zero feedback in the wet on a wet Dave Thorpe Adventure day last October. I eventually found the limit when the rear end stepped out on a fast A road. After 130miles and a blast across Exmoor, the tyres still offered no feedback. The said I missed an apex at speed (watching my buddy in the mirror) and had to stand it up and brake hard mid corner. Tyres didn't slip. Note I found the seating on the CRF1100 I was riding too low for me which may have altered feedback.

      @@manybikes Okay by way of an update. Took the plunge and swapped my Rally STR out for Raids on my CRF1000 . Wow, chalk and cheese compared to the set on the newer CRF1100. Great feedback and warm up quick. Okay off road (much much better than the Rally STR on slippy trails) The knobblies can squirm on the rear on the road but nothing that worries. Can only conclude that the Dave Thorpe CRF1100 was set up too soft on the rear thus offering poor feedback. (Mine is maxed out)

      Great question, sir, great questions… On the street the Dunlop RAID does roll smoother than the AX41. The front tire grip of the AX41 and Luce dirt is significantly better than the raid. in wet weather I did find the Dunlop raid tire to be stickier and to break loose less. Hi Kyle..one question, which front tire do you think performs better onroad? Raid or Mission..in 21 inch. What do you think of the idea to combine Raid in the rear, for grip, with the Mission in the front, for more precision onroad. I am afraid that the Raid in the front doesn‘t give me enough precision and secure feeling onroad, when riding a little faster.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  7 місяців тому +1

      Well... I really think the RAID excels. The raid is much softer and grips the road better than the Mission. The Mission is a long distance touring tire that "can go off road"... where as the Raid is a more aggressive off road tire that still has super solid road performance. If total mileage was not a concern... I would choose the Raid over the Mission every time. I think Dunlop hit the mark on this "more aggressive" ADV tire.

You know the vstrom 800 is a very quiet bike so the noise became obvious pretty fast. I have heard that the trailmax missions last longer and most people put 7-8k miles on them. When i replace my rear raid it would probably be with the trailmax mission as I ride at least 10k miles a season and any tire that would only last 4k would get expensive fast.
