- Vignettes from a Dec. 15, 2012 interview with Olympic Gold Medalist Nadia Conmaneci at the the Jamestown Savings Ice Arena. She won three gold medals at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and was the first female gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. She also won 2 gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

I love this woman and her song!!!!
An incredible and beautiful story; she performed like an angel at those games, and looked so happy doing it. It is a great pleasure to see her today looking well and happy. I remember also the amazing overall standard; her competitors were awesome, too - but a divine light shone on Nadia in that competition.

It really was the defining moment in Olympic history, and the defining athlete. No one will ever touch her performance I don't think.

I appreciate you Nadia for everything what you have done for Romania. I also like that you pointed out that fact that you are Romanian and an adopted American. I am a Romanian and every where were I go people know about you , I am proud of being Romanian. One professor from a Canadian faculty has asked me if all girls from Romania go to gymnast? Congrates and keep going!

Her book "Letters to Young Gymnasts" is very good. I've also studied the history of Rumania...did you know once she retired the government would not let her travel for fear of defection? She was training young gymnasts but had no money or rights still! Eventually she ran and defected just prior to the Rumanian revolution Dec 1989. So eventually she could go back and visit. The dictator in charge was a terrible man and the Rumanian people had nothing. Birth control illegal, families were suppose to have 5 kids! Eventually this population as students helped over throw the dictator. They executed him and wife, they were the last people executed in Rumania. Historically great
