    I am very impressed, i too don't have the money or means to buy a huge mirror. Your videos will come very handy when i decide to build my own. Keep up the great work!

    Couple of things to consider.
    1. The mirror thickness is way too thin.
    2. No rotation of tool in the grinding stand may introduce astigmatism in the mirror (rotating the entire arrangements with stand won't help.. you need to rotate the tool keeping the mirror stand in same position).
    3. A thin padding to put between the tool and the wooden stand to avoid astigmatism.
    4. Grits beyond the 320 mesh are better to use in the form of a slurry (thin liquid form mixed with water).
    5. Touching thinner grits beyond 320# grits with hand is not a good idea. It may get contaminated with the dirts present in the finger tips.
    6. Do not let the wets go dry at the first place, to avoid sticking of tool and mirror.
    Great video brother.. keep up the good work.

    Hi can you please tell how deep is the centre for the sides if I have a disk of 12 inch thank.

    • @astrovillager
      @astrovillager  Рік тому +2

      It depends on focal length, my glass blank was only 8mm thin, so i its centre depth is 2.3mm .

    Not followed the parameter of telescope mirror blank , i,e. Minimum thickness of glass = diameter of mirror/14, when it is plate glass blank .🥵

    • @astrovillager
      @astrovillager  10 місяців тому

      Yes , I told in my 1st step of this telescope making.

      @@astrovillager It is because thin blank can break or crack , and so much effort in precise surface making💤 .🥵
      A solution is , cement the glass tool on the back of mirror .

      These old rules that come from the first books on mirror making, like Texereau, J. (1963). How to Make a Telescope. 1st ed. Willmann-Bell, Inc., no longer apply because the type of glass sheets currently used in amateur mirrors are very different from the blocks used in the 1960s. Back then, they had to be thick for stability, were manufactured one by one, and were already shaped as telescope mirrors. Today, glass sheets are produced in large industrial furnaces with precise temperature control, and the surfaces are parallel because the glass flows over a pool of liquid metal (tin). The cooling process is very gradual, and the furnace is highly controlled, so there are no internal stresses in the material. There are large factories out there-Brazil, for instance, is probably the largest exporter of glass sheets for windows and building finishes.
      On the other hand, this rule is not a law. For example, the mirrors of the JWST telescopes do not follow the D/14 rule, and the material used is beryllium... Take, for example, the Palomar Mountain Telescope (now retired in practice), which, despite being thick, had several deformation problems, including due to excessive weight. Indeed, they even used a reel and fishing hook to pull the most deformed side of the mirror.

      @@hugoabikaram6305 For 10"dia. mirror blank , I recommend 19 mm thick and I find it perfect . Practically I had success in 3",4",4.25" , 6", 7.5" , 8" ,10" , 12" (cassegranian) & 14"(from 21" flat screen TV crt panel glass ) mirror making .I had tried to keep a nominal value of the precise work in above ... & I am little bit aware of your depiction . The commercial glass sheet we find here are of Chinese .🔘🇮🇳
