Agree 100% about the Instant Pot slow cooker feature. My crock pot CANNOT be replaced!
I use the saute button to heat up my liquid while I am adding other ingredients to reduce the time it takes to pressurize
Me too
Yes, that makes a huge difference in time.
Susan Walters Me, too!!! 👍🏻💖🙋🏻♀️
Me too!
Same
I love your channel because it doesn't have a bunch of long long advertisements in your videos. Thank you.
I use the slow cooker feature all the time and love it! If it doesn't cook as thoroughly as I'd like, I just pressure cook it for a few minutes. I rarely have a problem. I am just sure to adjust the slow cooking temp from low to med to high, depending on what I'm cooking. Thanks for the tips!
This should be REQUIRED watching for all new Instapot owners! I heard your advice about turning the lid upside down when storing, and immediately ran to do that with mine! I still want to see how to clean the lid in the dishwasher, though....Thanks for an excellent video!
The lid (and liner pot) are dishwasher-safe, though it helps to disassemble the lid:
1. remove the sealing ring.
2. pry off the _float valve retainer_ . The float valve (also called the _pin_ ) is held on by a small flexible plastic dome _under_ the lid.
now 3. the float valve will fall out - did you catch it?
4. the pressure relief comes off if you pull it straight up.
Now the lid can go into the dishwasher, the small parts should be washed separately.
Hope this helps, it took longer to write this, than to actually do it.
We are so glad these tip and tricks are helpful. Thanks for stopping by.
@@surlyogre1476, I put my whole lid in the dishwasher without removing the float valve retainer or the sealing ring. Will my lid continue to work okay still?
Surly Ogre, thank you so much for the detailed explanation! Here's hoping I can follow your directions & get the lid cleaned. Again, thanks!
Double boiler...Awesome !!!
One more : Use the Yogurt setting to proof dough--It works perfectly.
My pot came with 2 different colored rings and I use one for savory (AKA stinky) recipes and the other for "sweet" or low aroma dishes so the smells aren't taken on by the next food you cook. So far so good!
Thanks for sharing with us today !!!
My pleasure!!
I NEVER thought I’d get a burn notice. I did a quick google search, realized my tomato sauce was too thick. I added some extra white wine (the recipe called for some before) and a little bit of water. All was fine. I may have added a little too much wine though. 😅
I just did the 5 /5/5 method for eggs. So easy!

Thanks for sharing this helpful video!!! I love your shirt, it matches your lipstick! I hope you're having a wonderful day 💗
As a parent of soon to be 8 we love easy big meal instapot recipes!
I have a very old cooker that predates Instant Pot. It doesn’t have presets so your recipes are extremely useful.
OMG you're the best! Thanks a lot for all these tips! I'm new in this Instant Pot world and needed something like this hehe.
I use the Slow Cooker function all the time!!! I love it!!!
It's so hot already and I definitely don't want to use the oven. I'd love a video on summery instant pot recipes.
This is a great video. Thanks for all the i nfo. You are my go to for all my instant pot recipe needs.
These tips in printable format would be GREAT!
I agree with the slow cooker feature, as much as I love my instapot, I still use my crock pot.
I'm so excited for your book Kristen! I love watching your videos, between you and pintrest I'm not afraid of my pot and have made some very yummy meals! 😁
Thanks Mary. I'm so glad you stopped by for the videos. This Instant Pot Cookbook should be great. We are so excited for it.
Thanks for all your tips! Love your channel and look forward to your cookbook.
Thanks for stopping by!! We are so excited for this cookbook.
Love all the tips. Thank you 🤩
yes, I do a lot of soup and it is an 8 quart I use it is full of veggies so to make sure it doesn't take the heating time I start on saute for the onion garlic and seasoning. I boiled water in the kettle and add boiling water over the vegetables. pressure takes less time I do the same if I need boiling water to cook on induction
#15 - the toothbrush is a great tool for cleaning, but I have an easier time getting to all the nooks and crannies in the main pot, with a foam paint brush. You can find just the right size and they're beveled on the end (like a wedge) to fit perfectly. Can be found in any craft store or where crafts are sold (Walmart).
And found at dollar tree
Last night I made your creamy chicken and rice. In one IP I used regular rice. In another IP I used cauliflower rice. Both were very good!!!
Number 7, 😆 that’s me!!! Everyone at home was scare 🤫🌪🌪🌪🌪
Thanks. Just bought the new Instant pot. Little nervous. Waiting for house to blow up. Thank you again. Learning.
Great tips and advice!!! 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Love this channel
Thanks for he fun info!
Well done Kristen! Knocked it out of the park! Great explanations and communication. I saved this to my cooking playlist to go back and reference. I was a little surprised at #26, do not put the plastic bag for the dump and go recipes in the IP...as a man, I thought I was the lowest common denominator...I feel pretty good now! Lol! :)
Just a tip- i was having issues with the slow cooker button as well but I figured out a way around it. I use the sauté button to bring the food up to temperature (a simmer or boil depending on what I’m making) and then cancel and use the slow cook button as usual. Works perfectly!
The main reason to use the “other buttons” is that is the only way to use the delayed start feature which is VERY handy to use. It won’t work on manual.
Great information! Thank you
Thank you for the burn tip! I only made my first meal the other day, and it went very well! (Mac n cheese) I wouldn't even think about that for spaghetti, so I appreciate the heads up!
Hi Gretchen. We hope this helps.
I LOVE your tips and tricks and I LOVE my instant pot. Thanks so much‼️
Thanks so much for stopping by. We are glad you like the tips and tricks.
Wonderful video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tips thank you
FYI: Slow cook does not use pressure, works like a regular crock pot this way. Cook times will be several hours like a crock pot.
Do you still put it on the "sealing" setting when using the slow Cook option?
@@DramaQueenD13 it shouldn’t matter where the button is. It’s really just a lid when using slow cook
@@triciamcfarland8823 Thanks!
@@DramaQueenD13 YW:)
here is a tip if you do a recipe and you're up to the full line and still have a few things to add just goo ahead and cook what you have in the pot then, add the rest when its done pressure cooking, the liquid will be hot enough to cook the other stuff just add it in and cover with a lid
Thanks for sharing
Glad I watched this I just got an Instagram pot and I was gonna use liners like did in my slow cooker
What is an “Instagram pot”?
you're a keeper...
Love the different ideas you provide. Is there a big difference between the Instant Pot and the Crockpot Express Crock? Please give me your honest opinion. Thank you.
Any time I add water or liquid to mine, I leave on the keep warm function. That heats the water so it takes less time to come to pressure when I switch over to pressure cooking. The spoon that comes with the Instant Pot has a hole in the handle. That's what I use to turn the valve from sealing to venting keeping my hand completely away from the steam. The Ultra valve is just a button, so I used the end of the handle to press the button down.
I wanted to share, about the preset buttons. I LOVE them!.. You should try them... You set your own preset time. My poultry i set it to 20min, beans 20.. What ever time you set last it records as a set time.... I shared with my sister that is she wasn't that much of a fan of the buttons, she should set then in intervals of 5 or 10 mins. As long as she knows/remembers the order of the pot them in she'll be good... But i say PLEASE give the buttons a try, it makes it so much easier than constantly setting a manual time.. Thanks! 😊 Oh 🎉congrats on the book🎊
Big tip was using a toothbrush for cleaning the Instant pot. Thanks.
Abi O. Same!
I like the slow cooker.
You are the best
I've pre-ordered your cookbook, any release date as of yet? Getting excited!!!
It will be out toward the end of 2020. We are so excited.
Six Sisters' Stuff I’m a novice cook. Hold my hand through this and we’ll conquer together.
Your #5 tip (cooking eggs); I have to say, this didn't work for me. However, I have found cooking the eggs for 3 minutes, then "Natural Release" for 10 min, then, in cold/ice water for an additional 10 min +/-, my hard cooked eggs come out perfectly EVERY time (I was getting the green ring with the 5-5-5 method. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Oh, yeah, I am using the IP Duo-6.
Y'all Be Safe!
Raymond Schneider my method is 2 - 10 -5 - perfect eggs every time.
5-5-5 works for me
I have to use 6-5-5. Otherwise they're not done.
Good info as always! Thanks!!
You are welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
I follow you every week andlove your recipes, how do you pre order your instant pot cookbook..

another great video
Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Love your shirt, where did you buy it? Great tips for newbies like me. I just switched from a stovetop pressure cooker but there’s more of a learning curve than I expected.
So, when are you going to have some recipes for the Duo Crisp or the air fryer lid?
I wondered that too! So curious about it.
Great videos as always! You inspired me to create my channel and I have a few videos on the Air Fryer Lid :)
Tip #7 Fix - Just get the Instant Pot Max! No need to go anywhere near the pressure release anymore. ;oP Great tips Kristen ... Thanks!!
CUTE shirt!
Excuse me while I go unlock the flip the lid to my instant pot. lol
You can change the settings on the preset buttons. I use the porridge button for my oatmeal all the time. I have it set to cook for 1 minute with old-fashioned rolled oats. That way, I don't have to change the time from whatever I cooked last. I also use the yogurt button a lot. After a lot of experimenting, my yogurt turns out perfect every time. I use only 2 ingredients: Fairlife milk and Mountain High plain yogurt for the starter. (I've never tried to use yogurt from the last batch as a starter.)
I'm a newby, only one dinner under my belt so far, but I see what you're saying about the other buttons! It will remember what I tune that button to - more or less time. I can't wait to try it now. - Thanks!
@@marciafischbeck7653, you're welcome!
I need to get an instapot!!!!
Mousy Leigh Pampered Chef sells the best! I can help.
When you are ready to purchase one, we'll take care of you with these Instant Pot videos.
Hi Kristen: The duo crisp has a sous vide function, still no plastic? Happy Monday!
Kimberly Burns that’s a great question!! I wonder the same thing!
If you are using the sous vide fiction, you can (or must!) use a plastic bag! temps are much lower than when using other functions!
Carol Olson Thanks Carol haven’t tried it yet. But will give it a go!
Try Liquid Smoke to water to cook chicken or roast. Yummy 😋 I also use Worcestershire & Soy Sauces Omygoodness 👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
About getting the second pot: the brand offers a non-stick pot, you might resolve two issues with one go by ordering your second pot as non-stick. :)
I use the Slow Cooker button to keep food warm when folks eat at different times.
I store my rings in the freezer, never on my lid- as soon as I do my kitchen doesn’t smell like cumin 😂😂😜
I am glad you mentioned the slow cooker button. I used it once and it didn't work at all.
For pasta I put my noodle in the pot first then pour a can of beef broth on top and try to coat all the noodles. Put a can of sauce on top and set the pot for 6 mins. I don’t stir anything till after it’s all cooked.
Watched your cold start yogurt video-what setting should I use if I don’t have a ‘yogurt’ button?
How do you reheat frozen precooked gumbo or soups in your Instant-Pot?
The Burn notice can also be caused by the Steam Release Handle. I got the message and had plenty of water in the pot, I was just cooking frozen carrots for my dog. I got the notice about 3 times before I thought to check the release handle and sure enough it wasn't put back on properly. So, there is one more reason for the Burn message.
I fixed the problem of tomato sauce sticking by purchasing the nonstick ceramic inner pot. The tomato sauce no longer makes the pasta stick and burn at the bottom.
I use the slow cooker button quite a bit. It does take longer than my slow cooker but sometimes I prefer that as my slow cooker runs really hot
Where can a get the smaller pot-in-pot used in some of the videos ? I Have a 6 quart IP. Would a 3 quart liner work ?
I like the slow cooker on the instapot but I am not in love with that button. I am starting to use my. IP more so it's great.
It seems that the slow cooker function has too high a temp, according to the manual. My crock pot, on low, is no higher than 140*.
Since you said no freezer bag in the instapot , I have to to think ! Somebody has put the freezer bag and all in the Instapot?!?! 🤪😆😮🤪😂 oh my goodness
Tuna casserole recipe?
If I use a program like poultry will it automatically set the cooking time
Have you tried the slow cooker button with a glass lid and not the pressure cook lid?
Darin Wisner Pampered Chef sells them. I can help.
Any tips to get instapot to replace the air fryer lid for the duo crisp? Won't connect after 5 months.
Hello, o tried to open the link for making bread, and downloaded app required, but it didn't work. Is there perhaps another link one could try?
Hi kirsten ive been having issue in making my spanish rice and beans i like to have that perfect spanish rice just like if i was to do it on stovetop which ive been doing for yrs now that i have the instant pot 6qt duo plus for few months now i do follow IP video recipes IP cookbook recipe it just not working for me lol can you help me please 😊
Do you normally use a 6 or 8 quart instant pot?
Is it possible to make a Saucy Swiss Steak in the 6qt Instant Pot and where can I find the recipe for it?
When you make pasta, put your sauce in the bottom then your pasta and put enough water to just cover the pasta. One pound pasta one jar sauce. 6 minutes
We love hearing your tips and tricks too. Thanks for sharing and stopping by.
#19 *the BURN notice* quick fix: push the _cancel_ button, and let the pot sit, undisturbed, for the time you had intended to cook. The pot is already up to temperature and pressure, just let it "coast".
edit: especially for spaghetti (and other pasta) keep the pasta _off_ the bottom of the pot; pasta on the bottom almost guarantees a *burn* .
How long do I cook stuffed peppers in the instant pot if rice and meat or cooked already.?. I always over cook them.
#SealingNotVenting 💨💨😬 ❤️❤️❤️
I know this is a stupid question! I have an instant pot duo. I do not know how many quarts it is . It was a gift. I want to buy a silicone ring. How do I tell of it is 6 or 8 quarts
The 3-qt mini has the lid holder.
what button on instant pot do you use to cook pasta?
The link for the bread takes me to studio and is unavailable. What is video title so I can look it up?
when and where can I view your shows
on Sunday's
Just type in “SixSistersStuff” into youtube and you will find our channel!
#11- after using my IP I rinse the lid and ring well then sprinkle it with baking soda and let that sit a few hours/overnight then rinse with hot water.
If it’s really bad I pour white vinegar around the ring and let that soak a bit.
There’s very little one of these two super deodorizers can’t take care of 👍🏼😎
Can I use your recipes in my power pressure cooker XL it has a slow cooker button
Krista Dawn Byers The Instant Pot is simply a brand name for an electric pressure cooker/multi cooker, so your Power Pressure Cooker XL can used for any electric pressure cooker recipe.
When cooking eggs does the ring stink afterwards?
Nancy B I’ve been cooking hard boiled eggs in mine for a while and the ring doesn’t stink. If the egg cracks, there’s a little smell but I put it in the dishwasher and that takes care of it!
Clean your ipot with white vinegar. It works great on is completely safe.
Hi!!
I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN BURN NOTICE WITH MY PASTA! PUT SAUCE PAST THEN WATER!
