Pies are back in tiny Pie Town, New Mexico, after a long COVID drought, as Jefferson Graham discovered when he visited the Pie-O-Neer restaurant in Pie Town, and sat down with owner Sarah Chavez to talk things all pie.

My mother in law loved Pie Town. She loved telling anyone about the wonderful visits with her Red Hat friends and going to Pie Town. In fact when she pasted away at her Memorial we served lots of pie and some of those Red Hatters shared their stories.

How were the pies?
I was there a couple days ago and this shop was closed. tried 2 other cafes and one no service and the other, bad food. Horrible experience, but I guess a few years late in visiting.
Sorry you had a bad experience. My first time there was a ghost town. Then I came back three days later and all was good.
Is it possible to order pies from Pie Town on the Internet?

Thought about driving out for a visit this week until I heard the owner say “pinyon.” It’s Piñon; a Spanish word. Frustrating when people come to live in NM but don’t make an effort to really learn the culture. The culture is why people come here, but when they move in and don’t try to absorb the culture, it erodes and the transplants just become exploitative. Some folks call it appropriation.
They still make great pies though!
