This is the recipe fhat was in a magazine -I believe it was Country Music Weekly- about 20 years ago. It was featured on a page with the Cracker Barrel logo as their casserole recipe. I was surprised to learn that they used Colby cheese and no sour cream, but it is delicious. I have tried recipes for the copycat grilled chicken tenderloins. Do you have a recipe for that?
I'm a single man who generally hates dealing with difficult and time-consuming cooking, but I attempt a lot of 'invites' for both family and friends. This, however, looks to be a very easy and delicious-looking recipe. I've been searching for an added (potato) side-dish for these occasions and the holidays, so I'll use this one. You're also very easy to listen to, and you give instructions in a 'simple-to-understand way.' Likewise, you are very entertaining! Thanks for sharing and hope to see more of your online (and very easy to make) recipes.
I made these today and they were absolutely amazing, these are my husbands favorite at Cracker Barrel and he said these were even better then Cracker Barrel’s, thank you again for all the wonderful recipes, I truly appreciate you taking the time to teach all of us, you are the best❤
Whenever we travel we have to stop at a cracker barrel so my husband can get these, thank you so much for teaching me all of these wonderful recipes, I will be making these tomorrow, hope you had a merry Christmas
Thank you for sharing the accurate Cracker Barrel copycat recipe. The majority of "copycat" recipes posted include an overwhelming amount of sour cream, which Cracker Barrel does not use. I haven't bought margarine for over a decade but I'm going to pick some up because this is what Cracker Barrel uses and I want an exact copycat.
I also added a cup of sour cream, I cooked it covered and took it out of the oven after about 45 minutes added cheese on top cooked uncovered for 15 minutes, it was delicious 😋
I just made this casserole this morning for company. I didn't have margarine but used butter instead. I grated the onion, grated the Colby jack, and cooked it on high for three hours! Oh my, it was so good! I made a slow cooker French toast from The Girl on Bloor channel. Wow! Together, they made an easy to cook brunch while I drove to the airport to pick up family. It was hot and ready when we got home. I know what I'm making for Christmas breakfast next year. Thanks for the video!
@@florenceschneider3315 the hash browns were frozen. I forgot to put them in the fridge the night before. I've done it a few more times since then and while frozen, it's still about the hours. When I defrost them first, it's less time.
Im so glad I watched this cuz so many videos out there call for Sour cream & that's 1 thing I don't care for!! I will be making this for sure!! I've never been to Cracker Barrel..
10/10 AMAZING, rich and perfect! I followed you to a T and it was damn good. 🎉❤ I only used butter because I couldn’t find margarine , but this is now going into my recipe book for Christmas breakfast!! Thanks for sharing
Oh I really like you missy, you are just like me, thank you for the recipe, I will try to think of one that you can create for us, have a fun day. MJ. From Arizona
Can you make Copeland’s mushroom dressing? They recently took it off the menu and I loved it so much. It came with the Blackened Chicken on their menu. Thank you
@@RestaurantRecipeRecreations No lie, when I was little we used to eat that soup... undiluted...with a sleeve of Ritz crackers 🤣🤣 My from scratch recipe is basically just a seasoned roux based bechamel: 3 tablespoon butter (salted or unsalted) 1/4 c. Flour 3 c. Chicken stock 1 c. Whole milk 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper (black or white) 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon onion powder Just make the roux, let it cook for a good 4-5 minutes. Add the stock and milk and simmer until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, garlic and onion powders! You can keep in a container in the fridge for a couple weeks!
looks so good. Would it be possible for you to make a chinese buffet crab casserole. I have tried recipes but they are awful. LOL.. Yours I know will be awesome. Thanks
I make this with some changes: cream of onion instead of cream of chicken, Pepper Jack cheese instead of the Colby, butter instead of margerine and I throw in an 4 oz can of green chilies. It’s 1000% better than Cracker Barrel!
What you're using is not margerine, that's butter flavored shortening/Crisco. So my question is: does Cracker Barrel use melted butter flavored shortening or melted margarine?
The recipe def calls for margarine. Personally, I never use margarine but I had inside source tell me that this what CB uses. I think using real butter is ALWAYS preferable and when I make this at home, for myself, I use real butter. 😋

Love you to the moon, Mama!💕 Glad you enjoyed it and Happy New Year 🎉
Nailed it. I managed at CB for ten years! Frozen hash browns and melted margarine is key
Thank you for commenting, Ashley😁
Love the way you explained everything

That sounds righteous! I bet was even better than CB 😋😋
Even more scrumptious to add sour cream

That sounds like a perfect brunch!! Yum and thank you for sharing 😋💕
So you cook the hash brown casserole in the crockpot three hours seems like a long time for the oven

Love this recipe. I tweaked mine to bake at 375 degrees. Delicious!
Sounds great! Enjoy 😊
Yes I love them!!!!!
Perfect, easy side dish 🥰💯
My sister bought Cracker Barrel rocking chair and they put them in the back of their SUV but if you have a pick up truck that would work even better!❤
So funny, I'm still waiting for someone to say that they strapped it to the roof of their car!😂

Wonderful, Dani! Thanks for letting me know and commenting 😋🥰🥰
Yes two of them! One went in the back of a friends truck and one in the trunk of a Honda accord with rope to keep in!
I LOVE IT! 😁Thanks for sharing 👍
Fabulous!!!!! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank you for commenting ❤️

I like you too, MaryJo. Let's be internet besties!! 😘💕Thanks for the comment, it made me smile!!
This is what I have breakfast for at C B. So did my co workers after our night shift.
Delish 😋😋
Can I double the recipe? I have a big family brunch on Christmas Eve, and I think this will be a hit. Thanks in advance.
Yes, absolutely. Happy Holidays 🥂
Just put in the oven. Had to double the recipe due to a large family. Thanks for the recipe, and have a Merry Christmas.
Very yummy😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Can you make Copeland’s mushroom dressing? They recently took it off the menu and I loved it so much. It came with the Blackened Chicken on their menu. Thank you
Let me look into it, Alvarez. Thanks for the suggestion 👍
I love this casserole!! I like to make my own cream of chicken soup from scratch because I don't know what the heck is in those cans 🤣
I bet your homemade Cream of Chicken soup is to die for! I would just eat a big bowl of that on its own. Can I have the recipe??😋😋
@@RestaurantRecipeRecreations No lie, when I was little we used to eat that soup... undiluted...with a sleeve of Ritz crackers 🤣🤣

Bought a rocker put in trunk of course it wouldn't close, tied shut the best we could. Almost Griswold's lol. Have had awhile paid only $99.
That is too funny, Griswold's! 😂😂 Glad you got the reference!!
The chairs are comfy too, tho!
Looks delicious! Where did you get your casserole pan? I love the shape and size of it.
I don't remember, Jenni 😒 But probably from Amazon, it is a 9x13 inch,, 3 quart with a storage lid.
@@RestaurantRecipeRecreations - Thank you, I’ll do some research.
I’ve never purchased one of their rockers, but I kinda like the idea of the National Lampoon scenario 😅
Too funny. I’m a goof 🤪
Auto manufacturers make these things called pick up trucks that can be used to transport all types of cargo such as a rocking chair.
I have heard of those. OR, you could strap it on the roof.
looks so good. Would it be possible for you to make a chinese buffet crab casserole. I have tried recipes but they are awful. LOL.. Yours I know will be awesome. Thanks
I do have a crab casserole recipe but it's not from a Chinese buffet. Have a great New Year's Lenora 🥰
Can you top with chopped bacon and some more cheese?
Absolutely 💯 yummers!
@@RestaurantRecipeRecreations So perhaps take it out 5 minutes earlier, top with bacon and extra cheese and pop back in for 5 minutes?
Sounds good, LMK how it turns out!
Can you use frozen diced potatoes instead?
Sure, but it will change the texture. Taste will still be delicious though!
I wonder why they would use margarine over real butter. Just curious 🤔other than that, it looks delicious 😋
$$
It is true, money is the factor. Feel free to use real butter in this recipe though. Enjoy!

What you're using is not margerine, that's butter flavored shortening/Crisco. So my question is: does Cracker Barrel use melted butter flavored shortening or melted margarine?
They can generally be used interchangeably, but CB uses margarine.
I use cream of celery soup. I don't care for the chicken. This looks easy and delicious.
That sounds yummy! Thanks for commenting, Deborah 😁
And all those ingredients would mix happily everafter
SO happily ever after 😋💕
Some people make this with a small jalapeno sauteed tossed in.
💯💯💯 add a jalapeño to anything and I’m in!
Great video but it looks like you are using crisco not margarine
The recipe def calls for margarine. Personally, I never use margarine but I had inside source tell me that this what CB uses. I think using real butter is ALWAYS preferable and when I make this at home, for myself, I use real butter. 😋
The recipe looks good, CB probably uses margarine because it’s less expensive than butter not because it’s better.
Correct! 💯
Very very good subscribe in the exchange of food cultures
Thank you! 😍
the pizza from red lobster
Now that's an interesting request! Love it, thanks John 🙏🙏😋😋
I tried cooking it from a frozen state and the potatoes cooked unevenly so I disagree that you should cook it from a frozen state.
Thanks for your feedback, Gladys!
I don't like how these recipes cancel out the CRISPY hashbrowns. It's all cheesy mush. I wish there could be a huge crispy layer on top.
You can certainly add extra potatoes to the top and bake as usual. That would be delicious!
If you take 2-3 cups of crushed corn flakes and toss in 3-4 Tablespoons of butter, and spread that on top before baking you'll get a nice crispy top.
Margarine is so unhealthy for the human body!
I agree. This is CB’s recipe, not mine. Sub the margarine out for real butter if you prefer 👍
