How to POWERSLIDE: Basic Skateboarding

- I felt inspired to do some powerslides after reading an old book of mine: Scarred For Life. An interesting compilation of stories from skateboarders of many generations, origins and skills.
Never have I watched such a helpful and detailed powerslide tutorial! (Most are vague and non-descriptive) This was a great help man! 👍
I would recommend this tutorial if you want an even more in depth explanation about power slides. It's from longboarding but the concept is the same but with even more unforgiving grippy wheels. Balancing your weight on the front foot is very important and an experienced skater like Will Flores may feel so natural at riding than he didn't mentioned it. ua-cam.com/video/TO7qMj5N_VU/v-deo.html
The hopping motion was the secret ingredient I was missing! Thanks for this great tutirial!
Bro, you provide insights to tricks... that actually help to learn - been skating 20 years and didn't know how to powerslide ^^ thanks to you I did some long ass ones yesterday XD so fuckin fun --- it didn't occur to me that you needed that little 'hop' you talk about right before the actual powersliding part! It gets more fun : after a few successes, a kid comes to me and ask how it works ahah, I passed the knowledge you gave me to him and his friends were trying powerslides too! ahah everyone was powersliding around, so fuckin fun... ah thank you sir flores :)
Thankyou SO much for putting this up after I requested it a while back. There are a lot of tutorials up but nobody really explains this seemingly "basic manoeuvre" adequately enough. At least your vid finally does. I still think they're kinda scary for the first few times. What I would really like you to show here however are the b/s PLEASE, they're even more terrifying. Thanks for all your great content, it's a real help for sure.
First tricks I wanted to learn were the Ollie, and a power slide! Yes!!!
I'm a lot older now and don't want to lose the Ollie, they're a lot harder to do now than I thought. Oh well, not giving up yet.
seekah1 have you got them down yet?
@@wulfgang3676 Dude, soon...I'm getting out this summer down under with a new setup to help me out a little more. I've been off and on about it all, just gonna stay motivated. Looks like I'm gonna have to rely on guys like this to get more educated on them. I think I will get back to the Ollie etc fairly quickly. Thanks for asking. How is your skating going?
Slim wheels for sure make this easier for anyone who doesn’t know 🤙
What kind of slim? I tried the bones stf 103a slim. Didnt slide as well as the spitfire f4 conical 101a
@@GoogleUserGoogle1 I’d probably just keep practicing your weight distribution and making sure that your back foot powers the board forward.
Thanks for the video. I am recovering from a bone fracture and trying not to skate, just cruising around. Was trying powerslides and although I have the Bs, I've lost a bit of skin trying the Fs. Until the scabs are gone I can't even cruise. Need to learn to be patient and fully recover :)
very stylish man... perfect form and style
Step 1: get formula fours
Lachie Dixon can i do these with 52mm wheels
H E R A S S F A T B U T I S I T R E A L I do em with 51s, 53s, and 54s... of course, just make sure to get F4s (as mentioned)
Ramos EC 1 week later got formula fours but i still can’t powerslide my dam front foot always moves first
H E R A S S F A T B U T I S I T R E A L Do you have enough speed? You really want to feather the weight on the front, but don’t let it up... once you whip the back out and have the board parallel... hold steady and stay centered. Start short, then drive into em while staying centered.
One of the most sensations on a skateboard 🤙🏽
Ramos EC i’m gonna try to get speed and do it only thing is it’s pretty scary
this is the dopest video ive seen bout powerslides in a while
I noticed something about your video about half way through: the skate board is always the focus of the shot. Like, centered on the screen I mean. Thats cool. Thank you for sharing this.
Possibly one of the coolest looking trick to do in crowded streets. I love doing these super fast in front of kids cos they just love it ^^
Alexander Alexander what?
bruh
What I found helpful when learning power slides was to do a little nose manual for a split second. This helped me get used to dragging my board in the side ways motion. He said “hopping motion”, if this doesn’t work for you, try a split second nose manual. 🙂👍
Honestly thanks so much this seriously helped.
yes bro i just started working on these heavily
Thank you
@@wildboar1911A1 any progress ? I’m about to start learning them.
@@idothings6923 pretty sure it only took a day or two to learn them, then a week to have them on lock and with control. they are easy
@@wildboar1911A1 yeah I’m able to move the board but I either A.) don’t go completely perpendicular and don’t slide or B.) kick the slide out and highside. So it’ll just take a minute for me lol
Love this video! Very helpful! Great job
I struggle with BS Powerslide and FS is bit sketchy guess i put my feet to close together or somthin,
thanks for the videos i really like the way u explain tricks!
your a good explainer skater
Great vid bro
Thank you for this i started practicing today and i almost got it but when i was power-sliding i went forward one inch or so and my board just stopped and i fell but it was fun ill try again tomorrow
careful bro.
Nice very detailed tutorial! Im gonna start doing them more often
Can we get a tip for backside ?
Getting the hop is something I just can't quit get and hung up too.
That hop is SO important and hardly anyone mentions it! I guess it should be obvious when you think of the physics but yeah, I so wanna get them down, hopefully soon!
Good , i like downhill techsliding
this is amazing man thanku
how about the backside one ? i have those frontside ones on lock but can never ever do the backside ones, like my backfoot toes never want to stay on the board, plus im pretty sure my body position isnt good
Same concept but put more pressure on the toes, and make sure you’re still looking forward completely (it’s more of a back twister). It’s not easy but looks awesome. Helps to try that one on flat first, maybe a smooth skatepark ground.
@@SKATEHACKS thanks so much for tip !!
The second before the slow motion is also important and should be in slow motion parts :) What did you do before the slide? All is important in the movement when you start practicing this. Rest of the tutorial is absolutly great!
Great tutorial. Thx :)
Biggest tip is to get speed. I spent an hour trying to do it off of two pushes and couldn't get it. Then went down a smooth hill and did it but ran off my board cuz I wasn't expecting to get it and didn't lean back
Love ur shoes! Ishod Wair is the best 😤
I cant bring it back. How do I do that?
Next video: how to no comply plz
Thanks
Power sliding since 1988!
Nice vid. Could u do a vid on frontside noseslides
The wheels after this video -> ■
Powersliding is so much different with different wheels, SPF is great for parks but STF slides much faster on smooth skate park surfaces.
does anyone know why I keep tripping forward when I powerslide?
thaks
how can i bring it back? should i lift the nose? can someone please explain, i can do only powerslide 180
I feel like the backside version will be easier for me because I can do these backside reverts on the back wheels and it is similar to a powerslide am I right ?
Your body’s gunna wanna do the full revert. Staying that 90 degrees while powerslide then going back to regs will be way hard
Wear a helmet if your bombing huge hills kids.
For sure
Child is a young human, kid is a young goat, fyi. Sheep go to heaven, goats.......
Words have meaning, just because lots of people say a word with implied meaning doesn't mean the word's definition changes. It just mean lots of people are unknowing.
God bless you.
Ma5tiff thank you for helping me to see the error in my ways. From this point onward I will address all younger humans as “child” like you say.
What wheels you using bro?
i have nothing to add. thats how i powerslide.
for some weird reason this trick is even more complicated than a kickflip for me :(
I believe it
Can I do this with 52mm , 99A ?
anything works, including 99a. do note that harder wheels slide easier, but im not too sure about size, since i dont tell a difference whenever i slide with bigger or smaller wheels
Yea but it so much harder when all you have is a too steep of a hill you live on to learn the hill he riding down is slight engled hill.
Bruh all skateboards are sold out here in the uk can someone recommend me some sites with affordable boards? I’ve tried cal7 and skate hut but no sign. I broke my old one and I want to get back into skating 😔😐
Try native skate store they have some good ones
Titus skateshop. They recently restocked Mini Logo decks
Bro your lying, slam city, focus, rollersnakes, seed are all shops are all selling boards in the UK hell even route one if you want to feed the corporate machine
i music bruh I literally only use them 2 sites, sorry if this annoyed you. I can’t find any from there but I’ll check out the ones you listed. Are they affordable doe 🤨
Corona Virus didn’t annoy me at all, but you can’t say all uk shops are sold out when you have looked at 2 😂
Is lbj closed?
Yes. But I’ve heard that there’s a hole in the fence where the next door daycare is, by the A/C unit. But you DEFINITELY SHOULD NOT USE THAT OPENING TO ENTER THE SKATEPARK, JUST MENTIONING IT FOR MAINTENANCE 👌🏽
