sad fact: its made clearer in this version since the picture is turned to gray and it fades away, but that last frame represents the very last moment before the world ended. I liked it more on fes as it just freeze framed on yukari’s happy face as shes singing while the player knows that was her last moment ever before she and everyone else died
Nah I'm pretty sure it ended at Midnight when Nyx drops down. So the last scene is supposed to be everyone simply living as usual, enjoying their lives, not knowing that the end would be soon. I think this is one of the best bad endings in gaming.
Yeah Ryoji says it will give them some more time before the end but all it gives them is just 2 more months. Making the choice even worse because it amounted to nothing.
@@MariusBoss11458 I kind of liked it in FES when they used Memories of You because it made it feel unsettling especially on that final shot of Yukari singing fading to grey it was like wow... they really just died that day...
@6:15 I love the attention to detail they have in there. In the bad ending, Aigis’ name is “Girl,” indicating that you, the MC, don’t remember who she is, whereas in the good ending, they kept her name.
I'm glad Atlus rectified the fact that they don't give you the "Memories of You" ED for getting the bad ending. Because that song doesn't deserve to play after this ending
Mitsuru’s speech is so depressing by comparison to the good ending, she loses all of her confidence in herself and is clearly depressed. Such a rough ending
If you let Ryoji live, you at least get SOME sort of chance to pull out a miracle and avert the end of the world when the final boss fight rolls around, hence the Good Ending. If you kill Ryoji, that’s that: everyone’s memories are wiped and you’ve doomed the world to die once Nyx initiates The Fall that spring.
The game REALLY, REALLY makes it clear they don’t want you to choose this option too. Like the entire month before this happens, every time you talk to the dorm members they all want to fight
Another soulcrushing fact is that the Fall doesn't kill everyone outright. It makes them like the Lost. Meaning everyone will just waste away with time. Since Aigis is a robot and still retains her memories, this means she might be unaffected by this. Meaning that after the Fall, she will be alone and can only watch as her friends and humanity slowly wither and die as zombies, until ultimately she runs out of power and succumbs as well. Goddamn, this ending. Its definitely one of, if not _the_ most depressing bad end in all of Persona.
@@moogcity_2 ofcourse, I said Persona 3 is more mainstream, that's why people think it's ending is darker. I have played it, and personally, P2 ending is darker. But I guess it's fans can't even take a joke
I can guarantee that people who say that this isn’t a bad ending literally did not play the game which is usually 90% the case with most Persona fans. What part of Ryoji saying that by killing him, the inevitable is delayed and they can live peacefully did you guys not understand? THE WORLD IS STILL GOING TO END! LOL! Everyone’s memories gets wiped out except for Aigis and they go on peacefully without knowing the tragedy that will befall on the world.
I think many are people who have either not played the game or persona 5 fans confused by the Maruki ending where the cast gets live in ignorance but happy forever, while in persona 3 reload the cast gets to live in ignorance of the world ending its the worst fate as well cause Makoto went against the casts wishes of wanting to fight Nyx and chose to accept death anyways.
@@noone-xd6ie I'm 100% sure the ones confused by the Maruki ending are the same type of people who get confused by this. Like those look great in any other context but not in those. In P5R you strip people out of their will to think for themselves. In P3 you literally sentence yourself to a nice death.
@mrex666productions7 Yeah but there are pretty serious differences. They're both bad ends within the context of the games themes but Maruki's end feels like an actual choice. The point of persona 5 is to accept the crushing blows of reality and use what agency you have to grow beyond them. But not everyone has the power the phantom thieves do. You have the option to erase the pain of victims like Shiho or those extorted and forced into the sex trade by Kaneshiro and give those people happy lives. That's something you can't really gloss over as easily as p3's bad end.
@@LordAlbrecht You don't need literal power like the Phantom Thieves to make stuff better for yourself. You just need the power to move on with yourself and let go of the pain, but never forget it.
I like how the whole game is like filmed from a projector, like a retrospective of the past. When they eventually do a p4 remake, it would be cool if they did the same but with prerecorded tv channel
Loool like the other person said, its unskippable even in the good ending. I like to think they forced the credits cause everyone deserves unskippable recognition for the masterpiece of a game they've made together
@@vihangasilva you know what's weird is that in the original they played the same song for both like "good job doing the wrong thing here's your j pop"
The way it awkwardly ends is so sickening. It sort of felt like that was the very instant the world ended. There was no fade to black between choices and there was no warning. It was instant annihilation of all life. We don't even get to make a choice. We are forced to watch with zero say in the matter. No longer the master of our own fate, the journey is over and we are forced to watch
One thing, I like about P3 bad ending is that on the surface it doesn't really look like a bad ending, but when you look deeper into it, the ending is really dark. After all, everyone loses their memories except for Aigis who can't really do anything to stop her friends from dying to Nyx
I always liked to believe that the moment the scene ends and the End label comes up, is the exact moment The Fall occurs. All life ends in an instant, while everyone is blissfully unaware that the end has come for them.
In a way it’s even sadder. He met her unrelated to the dark hour before while wandering the streets. So if he does remember her, it’s only as “that weird girl I saw draw a while ago. Pretty hot tho”
its interesting to me how this is like almost the same as the good ending just with nobody questioning anything and the subtle detail of a lot of people not showing up to the graduation ceremony, implying that they had already succumb to apathy syndrome from the fall. I think genuinely the one thing I would change, even though I feel it might lessen the impact, is showing the very beginning stages of the fall taking place. Just like the protag picking the next song only for Junpei to collapse and then Yukari
It’s kind of sad to see that aigis regrets that she wanted ryougi to die because she remembers everything, I was expecting for her to reunite them but eh this ending left me empty
This is a lot more depressing than the good ending. The fact that they want to actually do something and try to save the world but you choose to slay ryoji and forget about your memories are more painful than dying. Thats why every playthrough i try to go with the good ending rather than the bad one
That's what makes Neo-Persona's bad endings so memorable. Despite everything, you willfully and completely reject the game's message, and the game is simply showing you the consequences.
Probably something the OG’s felt already, but man there’s so much layer that make this bad ending hit. On the surface everyone resuming everyday life, until the fall happens. Simple enough. It’s looking at the character RESETS that sets a reality. Let’s say the fall happens in another 5 or 10 years. What will happen? The main trio are just “High school buddies.” Once come adult life, they’ll easy drift apart, and forget about each other. Main character stays an isolated blank state. Junpei doesn’t learn about himself, or goes through a revelation. So he remains a goofball that’s probably going nowhere in life. Yukari doesn’t know the truth about her father, which was her purpose through this journey, that lead to finding her purpose in life. So instead she just living in the moment, instead of the future. Mitsuru not only has to stay a sheltered woman, but now she has to step up to her father’s shoes. A lot of pressure and responsibility it’s hitting her at a short time. Meanwhile Akihiko probably “accepted” the fact that his “old friend” Shinji, died as a delinquent, who threw his life away. At least Koromaru got it off a bit easy. He’s probably is living with the woman who wanted to take him in before MC did. I think THE REAL dark stuff comes to these three. Who knows Fuuka forgot if she was still friends with Natsuki. (Which has moved) That’s less of a worry though. Since she doesn’t have the courage she built in the journey, she gonna be the Timid quiet girl who gets picked on harshly again. Ken is a wild one cause it depends when his memory was cut. Was it when he went to SEES? That still could mean he’s going after Shinji. But if he learns he’s already dead, then more than likely he’s gonna off himself. Even if he bought into his mom dying in an accident, he’s gonna off himself anyway cause he dreads the life he had. Then there’s of course Aigis, which says it all. All that build up, to finally have human emotion & courage. Now having to see that reset, where everyone about to die anyway. I think the saddest of all has to be Chidori. Unless she knew anybody, she was pretty alone. She died saving Junpei’s life, so he can live on. Her persona even fuses with his. Only to have that wiped from his memory. So not only she died in the Dark Hour. She dies in vain since The Fall gonna happen anyway. Worst of all, she faces the worst kind of death. One where you truly die once the world no longer remembers you. Altlas really knows how to get people thinking with these endings.
That remembers me when I first played FES. I like how both endings are not so obvious. This one feels like a good ending all around, but they keep some touches, like the music, to keep things eerie. The good ending has the protagonist dying, and yet, people back then finished the game and would only find out years after. I like how in both endings are death, but its almost hidden in a creepy sort of way in this one, and its hidden in a poetic kinda way in the true ending.
Yeah Nah i’m glad I picked to keep that dude alive. Oh my God they don’t even remember each other. I’m still on my first play through but seeing the alternate route is so crazy.
One of the best bad endings of all time imo. All the charachter development gets washed away , the charachter forget all theyve been through , and even the main threes bonds are now shallow as implied by them all ignoring each other in the ending cutscenes. And to top it all off aigis remembers everything and is just left to suffer
I believe that when the screen goes gray in the final cutscene is the exact moment when the fall happens and life comes to an end at that moment but Aigis remembers all of it and just exists until she eventually breaks down alone and cold
She could definitely try but why? The person who she trusted and wanted to protect basically betrayed her and everyone else. Even if she still had the courage to go up against Nyx by herself, she would still be ultimately defeated since she has no access to the Universe Arcana
@@thisisspy288Personally I believe she would. Aigis would want to complete her mission. However she would surely fail. Could debate if she would even make it to Nyx, but I personally think she does. Just gets Defeated quick.
Not paying Memories of you like in the OG Makes it even creepier and arguably even more fitting. Because by Killing Ryoji, those Memories are gone, and the end comes withyou realizing it.
The fun thing is, at least the song isnt the Memories of You, which was making creepy the bad ending, and now, Atlus puts the *Tartarus Exploration Reprise (i dont know if that was the track) meaning YOU screw up the chance to defeat Nyx because you killed Ryoji in order to see your friends for the last time before the fall.*
I just noticed that in the true ending, the protagonist gets to live until 5th March. So he literally gave his life to be with his friends for one more day. Besides all the other important messages this game has, this one is a minor, but beautiful details, which shows how important these bonds are.
I never got that, I felt like Minato (yes I like that better) just fell asleep, nowhere in any of that did I get "oh he died" I'm like, never told explicitly that, I'm told that I will save the world by defeating Nyx, ok sweet, now that that's done I'm having a nice nap on the roof until my friends come up. It wasn't until later I read I died and I'm like "what? HOW?" I like my own version of events and that's MY canon ending. Not touching The Answer.
@@Kazeromaru The great seal costs all of his life. His fatigue in the epilogue is a result of that as he holds on until March 5th. You can head canon what you want for the game but you are kind of ignoring the themes of the game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The original cutscene for the bad ending was extremely eerie. It had that feeling of an early 2000s cartoon that ended on a weird cliffhanger that made you really depressed.
The worst part about this ending is the people who haven’t played the game saying this isn’t a bad ending. Do these naysayers need to see it actually on screen or did the foreshadowing go completely over their heads? 🤨
Well, actually, he probably wouldn't because he wouldn't even remember finding the culprit yet. So he'd still be searching until the end for a guy who's literally dead already. Also I find it a bit funny that your name is "low tier elf" and yet you tried to say it gently.
@@yusram8182the ending was actually pretty dark because when ryoji is killed then you went against everyones choice to fight nyx. Once you start the bad ending tall the characters except for aigis lose their memories which means that aigis remembers how you broke everyones trust. This also allows the fall to begin because nyx is not defeated my makoto resulting in the death of everyone while they don't even know it.
It's not just Aigis remembering everything that made me realize just how wrong this ending was. It was Mitsuru forgetting just how her father died. I still don't know why.
That ending os kinda sad, but Atlus could have gone far Imagine if slowly, everyone starting to get the apathy syndrome, and Aigis is desperately trying to help all of them but there's nothing she can do, and at the end she's alone, and all humans are gone...
As sad as this ending is, i have to admit that, if this is the most tempting choice, since the fact that this even being the bad ending relied on the gang defeating Nyx in the true ending, its not like, say persona 4, where killing narukami is the bad ending outright, since the real killer gets to live, while here, i'll admit, i probably would have chosen ignorant blissful death, instead of a microscopic chance at life, at the risk of the most painful death a person could experience, the reason this is the 'bad' choice isn't because everyone dies, its because all of S.E.E.S was willing to take the risk, fair enough, but out of all the bad endings in persona, you have to admit, this is probably the best one (from a moral perspective) or maybe P5 has a really cool bad ending or something idk, havent played that yet
So Ryoji knowingly wanted you to kill him, because then you would forget your memories and not come to challenge him when he combined with Nix on the Final Promised Day… interesting.
Its creepy when you think about why Aigis is staring at you, junpei, and yukari when they come to school.....imagine spending all that time and everyone talking about fighting the end to just randomly not remember anything and shes alone, also since she is a robot trying to understand humans she probably thought she had them all figured out and this probably massively confused her
So I’m not reading comments below for spoiler reasons, but I chose to continue fighting and let Ryoji live. I was curious to see what happened with this ending and holy fuck. Really hurts that all the highs and lows, happiness and sadness the group goes through, and on this ending, it’s all erased. By far the most heart aching is when the 3 are at karaoke. Like they’re there in the same room, but they aren’t really hanging out. Yukari the only one actually singing, and the two boys doing other things. That really hurt. I’m glad I decided not to go for this ending, and I’m very curious and excited what happens next
In 200 years, everyone in this comment section will be dead. For some of you, it will be quick, for others, a slow decine. There’s no stopping it, so some of us live in fear. But that fear pushes us to become closer to our friends, families, and savor every moment. That, to me, is magical. This game is one that I will have to play again if I ever get old. Live life like you can die at any second.
On my first playthrough i got the good ending and im glad i did. My second playthrough (to max all social links and fuse orpheus telos) i named myself Makoto Yuki knowing the canon ending was him sealing the door, sacrificing himself. Ironically, i named myself Makoto Door on my first playing due to my cousin reccomending it and saying id figure out why. When i told him i got the good ending he said "i knew you would". I guess the protagonist really is just existing. Its up to you how his fate comes. Although that can be said for any game, right?
Like I said to someone else, I didn't understand that he died at all, I just thought he was having a nap on the roof. Nowhere in the game did it say I was going to die fighting nyx. So I'll keep my headcanon.
@@Kazeromaru if you used the great seal skill when fighting "death" after you receive the universe arcana by igor, it shows that makoto consumes his entire health. also interacting with people on 3/4 says that makoto looks "unwell". he can't be "just sick and tired" as the ending without any explanation other than him dying and only tried to live until the 3rd's year graduation since he promised.
Can someone tell me why after killing Ryoji, they still get to live after jan31 and survive to see the graduation? I thought the world was supposed to end with Nyx on Jan31?
Ryoji said it himself, if they kill him they lose their memories AND delay The Fall by a bit, that's why it occurs on March 5th in the bad ending unlike the good ending
Ok i initially thought the world is gonna end on jan 31st if you let Ryoji live; so say if SEES failed to defeat Nyx, Nyx will still wait Mar5 to kill everyone else?!
@@luckymankwokif you do kill ryoji, everyone dies in March 5. If you do spare ryoji, the s.e.e.s. will fight nyx in January 31st. If they succeeded, humanity continues to prosper and they will never die. Don't get confused with what the guy said about everyone dying in January 31st, it's not true
One of the most unusual "bad endings" in videogames, which basically says "sometimes, it's OK to accept defeat." On a related note, Atlus was going through some rough patches (financially) when they made Persona 5. The company was on the verge of going bankrupt; it was the success of Persona 5 that saved Atlus. If Atlus did go bankrupt after releasing P5, this "bad ending" would have hit different.
Should I do bad ending or good ending first? I’d like to do bad first because I saved just before evening 12/31. Just want to be sure it doesn’t spoil good ending in any way.
The game should be an experience, not a tourist attraction, don't worry about seeing every ending or getting the maximum optimised version, just play and make the choices you wanna choose.
I might be overanalysing here, but I like the touch that the music doesn't change in the credits, as though the story itself has fallen to apathy syndrome with the player's choice; sure the music could change for the credits but who cares? It's the end of things whats the point?
This ending is actually quite true to life. I mean, if you’re playing video games and discussing them online in spite of the fact that you and everyone you know is going to die IRL, you have effectively chosen this option too. Don’t really have a choice. In game, the other option only delays the inevitable demise of everything they hold dear, it doesn’t prevent it.

Because at that time, they didn't make the promise.
They made the promise only on January 31st.
Mitsuru’s speech is so depressing by comparison to the good ending, she loses all of her confidence in herself and is clearly depressed. Such a rough ending

Can you explain, m not understand, like we choice to kill ryoji or not, the word be ended, so whats different ?

I haven't played the game and i undersrand the world's about to end
@mrex666productions7
Yeah but there are pretty serious differences.

Honestly, I think that might actually be the case cause of how gray everything looks and how when the word “end” comes up everything freezes
Realizing them forgetting everything about the dark hour probably ment Junpei would have forgotten Chidori as well ..... oughghhhhhhhhh
In a way it’s even sadder. He met her unrelated to the dark hour before while wandering the streets.
So if he does remember her, it’s only as “that weird girl I saw draw a while ago. Pretty hot tho”
Evil Yukari Takeba be like:Ew future, thinking how to live sucks
its interesting to me how this is like almost the same as the good ending just with nobody questioning anything and the subtle detail of a lot of people not showing up to the graduation ceremony, implying that they had already succumb to apathy syndrome from the fall.
I think genuinely the one thing I would change, even though I feel it might lessen the impact, is showing the very beginning stages of the fall taking place. Just like the protag picking the next song only for Junpei to collapse and then Yukari
This reminds me that makoto just has bad luck either he dies in the other world timelime ( aka innocent sin) or he dies in P3....
Wait he's in innocent sin?
@garytaylor8193 not physically shown but during the events of innocent sin he was still a kid around around 6-10 years old
It’s kind of sad to see that aigis regrets that she wanted ryougi to die because she remembers everything, I was expecting for her to reunite them but eh this ending left me empty

One of the best bad endings of all time imo. All the charachter development gets washed away , the charachter forget all theyve been through , and even the main threes bonds are now shallow as implied by them all ignoring each other in the ending cutscenes. And to top it all off aigis remembers everything and is just left to suffer

Thx atlus for not adding kimi no kioku on the bad end credits!!
I just noticed that in the true ending, the protagonist gets to live until 5th March. So he literally gave his life to be with his friends for one more day. Besides all the other important messages this game has, this one is a minor, but beautiful details, which shows how important these bonds are.
I never got that, I felt like Minato (yes I like that better) just fell asleep, nowhere in any of that did I get "oh he died"

Its creepy when you think about why Aigis is staring at you, junpei, and yukari when they come to school.....imagine spending all that time and everyone talking about fighting the end to just randomly not remember anything and shes alone, also since she is a robot trying to understand humans she probably thought she had them all figured out and this probably massively confused her
I imagine Philemon watching this as it unfolds like "Ah, shoot, here we go again."

I guess the protagonist really is just existing. Its up to you how his fate comes. Although that can be said for any game, right?
