    This was real helpful, although I have owned my 2007 infiniti g25 for 2 years, with 92k kilometres now on the clock.. Fluid looked exact same colour as in your video. Will change transmission fluid at 100k kilometres

    About damn time I see a legit video on how to check the trans fluid. I have 2008 M45 sport. basically a bigger car and v8 version of the g35. And I could never understand the grid pattern on the dip stick.

  • @billcampos6469
    @billcampos6469 Рік тому +4

    1) For G35, dip stick needs to be inserted the reverse direction to check transmission fluid...instruction in black bold text on the instructions in your hand....2) 10 7/8 quarts if full capacity from empty 3) what you take out put back in simple as that 4) measure it per instructions 4) I change my transmission fluid every 20k..my G35 coming on 100K...fluid was pretty clean, still starting slipping (not sure why everyone tells me I should never have changed it 5) wish I had someway to measure the temp on transmission fluid but too lazy and cheap to go buy a temp diagnostic tool via ODBC connection....6) I let my G35 from the drain plug sit for 3 hours and only 2.5 QUART came out! 7) to empty more you need to remove RETURN hose...well forget the name Return....just pull the hose coming out of the radiator at bottom facing drivers side of car as YOU are facing the windshield of car standing in front of car....you will know you pulled the correct RUBBER hose because if you turn the key to turn on the car, FLUID WILL SQUIRT OUT FROM THE RUBBER HOUSE...8) I only let 2 quarters coming out each time I turn the car on, and than turn it OFF 9) buy yourself CONTAINTER with MEASURE on it so you know total how many quarter came out OR, just get a bigger container to hold more than 11 QUARTS and dump back into the emptied NEW FLUID quart containers you just added into TRANSMISSion...10) I am not responsible on my comments if you mess your car up...

    I tested that transmission theory with my 2008 Titan with 200k miles. This vehicle was already low on transmission fluid and I only spent 1500 on it. It currently has 240k on it and runs like a dream. If you are around 140k I would check it and if you are low change it. If your not low but it's dirty I suggest adding a additive to it for sure. You can change it if you want but its on you. I do agree with that theory but it also depends on the life of the vehicle.

    Have an 05' 350z 5A/T with 260k on it....no rebuilds yet knock on wood. One thing I've always found odd is Nissan states in the FSM to check the A/T fluid with the gauge rotated in the reverse direction of how its normally attached. Any idea why this is? You can see it at 1:48 below section E.

    Very informative! So weird that my 07’ G35 5AT only drained about 3.5 quarts. I went through the motions of letting it idle and shift the gears. After three “drain and fills” my ATF is nice and clean. So glad you highlighted the dipstick area too!

    stick a wire temperature probe down the fluid pipe to measure the fluid at various temperatures (or buy one of those fancy ODBC II tools that measure transmission temp) ....I check mine at 149F....just did it for fun again today...I am retired...got nothing else to do....measure the length of the wire temperature probe line the same length of the dip stick inserted in reverse order of normal placement with the bolt....and shove it down the fluid pipe...the probe length is about I think was 24.5 inches but I don't remember....well just measure to make sure---measure from the end of dipstick to end to the rubber piece will hit the fluid tube in reverse placement of normal install conditions...if you don't understand what is written here like my neighbor says "just leave it alone"...

      It's old folk lore for older transmissions that have a cloth or sponge line filter that, if flushed, will launch/release the filter debris out. Most newer cars have like a mesh filter, if any. With the g35 etc it's best to replace about 4 qrts at a time until all 12 qts are circulated through and is red again. I do it every other oil change or so on my g35 pushing 225k miles

    I've got a 2004 G35 Coupe with the A/T. Whats the ATF capacity for a drain and fill? I've got about 103k miles on the car, not sure if the ATF was ever changed (i'm the second owner). Thanks!
    Never mind, just saw the end of the video and its listed. I think the 04' and 05' model is exactly the same, mechanical wise. I was deciding between Amsoil and Nissan Matic-S, what's your take? I know you use Amsoil.

    • @MotordyneG35
      @MotordyneG35  6 років тому +3

      Definatly change it, because everyone forgets to change the transmisson fluid. It is just as important as changing the engine oil. Every 30k it should be changed, 50k with synthetic.
      Yeah, I use Amsoil for my 6MT gearbox and others are saying you should stick to the Nissan OEM fluid on the autos. Since I do not have an automatic, then I'll listen to them and say go OEM fluid. On my manual, I"m at 172,000 miles on the gear box with butter smooth shifts and no grinding of gears, so the Amsoil is working just fine for me.

    • @icecubez130
      @icecubez130 6 років тому

      Yeah I read that the Amsoil OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF can be used in place of Matic-S fluid and both are about the same price. Was also thinking of replacing the differential gear oil with Amsoil 80w-90 synthetic gear lube. how often do you personally replace the gear oil, if at all? Thanks!

    • @MotordyneG35
      @MotordyneG35  6 років тому +1

      Every time I change out my 6MT gearbox oil at 50k miles, I always also do the differential because the car is already jacked up on all 4 corners and level. Even though I think the service manual does say use 80w-90, my tuner told me he uses Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90. In both the diff and the 6MT gearbox, so that is what I have been doing. With my Nismo diff cover, it takes an additional 1 qt of oil than OEM for even more cooling.

    • @icecubez130
      @icecubez130 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the tip! I plan on doing an engine oil change soon (Using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30) but will do an ATF drain and fill and differential fluid change as well. Still haven't decided between using Nissan Matic-S or Amsoil but I suppose its best to just order everything off Amsoil (stuff is expensive!). Thanks for your videos, keep it up!

That was poor advice you gave him after standing there and telling folks it needs to have a reddish tint to it. Brown in any shade means change it and too higg,or low on fluid is bad. Boy Meets World 717 ....add more for sure. If I was at 180k, I would change it but that is risky because if the transmission is on its way out, the fresh fluid will make it more clear. Apparently the old fluid has so many metal particles in it floating around that it helps keep it from slipping. That’s if it has never been changed it’s entire life, but if someone did change it. You would be in the he clear changing it yourself. I just bought a Lincoln MKZ at 100k miles. I changed the transmission fluid once I bought it and it came out bright red meaning I got lucky, someone changed it before me.

      You can just drain one quart and refill with one quart. Repeat every oil change for a year or two

    Got my a/t flushed by Infiniti, I brought my own fluid but they told me that using Nissan fluid is the way to go, that any other brand fluid will damage my car, I thought they were scamming me but they didn’t charge me for the fluid. The mech there said that, when it comes to transmission fluid, it’s very important to stick with oem. Not sure to believe them or not.

      keanu Romero I'd always stay with oem when it comes to ATF

      I 've had my G35 since new. In my manual gearbox and rear diff, I only use Amsoil 75w-90. I currently have 169,000 miles and none of my synchros grind. In regards to an automatic transmission, using Amsoil would be no different. Even the service manual says for my manual gear box, do not use anything else but Nissan 75w-90 API-GL-4. Amsoil ATF is far superior to OEM ATF, but the stealership always lies so saying you can only use their product, would be another lie. Although the service manual does say only use Nissan ATF fluid, but the service manual says that on every single fluid, you can only use Nissan fluids to ensure they get all of your money.

      Nick Bonilla........did make a good suggestion, you really can't go wrong with OEM fluids. Genuine Nissan Matic J ATF is NOT a synthetic fluid which is only $11 per bottle vs Amsoil which is $15 per bottle, but Amsoil is a synthetic ATF so it has longer change intervals. OEM fluid is also the cheaper choice.
      For the record, Genuine Nissan Matic J ATF is made by castrol and sold to Nissan so they can put their name on it.

      Motordyne G35 I have a question for you what the difference between g35 and 350z besides interior because it’s super hard to find a 6 speed g35 but I found a 350z 2005 50,000 miles what’s your opinion of the 350z your expertise would be greatly appreciated

    Ugh if the trans fluid was never changed and ur at 120k miles don’t even bother changing it ugh that sounds horrible. Just leave the old oil for life in the trans kuz the previous owner under 120k miles never changed it . That does not sound safe.

    Hey! I have a quick question! I have a 2004 G35X and I’d like to know if the transmission needs more fluid, do you add more where the dipstick is?
    Thanks!
