@moody mother awh thanks! That really means a lot to me, I hope I can continue to share information you find helpful and fuel that gerbil obsession! I may have just a tiny obsession myself 😅
I’ve just found your channel and think it’s brilliant, super informative and love the pacing and format! I’ve just adopted a pair of gerbils from my local pet rescue so I’ve been looking for some good UA-cam channels. Sending good vibes and hope your audience continues to grow! Xx
Thanks so much, I'm so glad you're finding the information helpful ☺️ Congrats on your new tiny meerkat friends! Let me know if there's anything I can help you with 🙂
Hi! I saw you on Criss' live this morning and wanted to come by and show my support for the furry critters of the World. Our pugs like to be warm and cuddly, too! Hope to see you online soon.
Thanks very much, the advice may be slightly different for pugs though, slightly less burrowing 😅 if you're ever thinking about getting your own gerbils, you know where to find me! ☺️
I agree, super adorable 🥰 gerbils are actually very clean animals and don't urinate much, so they have virtually no smell at all, their enclosure just smells like the woods because of the hemp bedding I use, so quite a pleasant smell imo 😄 And thanks so much for stopping by! I'm always available if you ever decide to get your own gerbs ☺️
Yes, I agree! Mine are pretty good about just using their sand bath too, but even when it's due a clean it still barely smells! Very good for inoffensive odours are Gerbils ☺️ Mine also try to hoard they're fresh food! This is why I've started waiting until they come out into the playpen, then they just hide in a box to eat, much easier clean up! And once Timon hid in the tunnel to eat a blueberry and left the most adorable blueberry feet prints 🥰 There's a picture over on my Instagram, I highly recommend taking a look, it's so precious!
@moody mother I know! That's what I was thinking! I could get some canvas sheet to cover the bottom of their boxes then trick them into making paintings with blueberries! 😄
Awesome video, thank you! I just wanted to say as far as heaters go, try to get an oil heater, as they don’t have coils that can overheat like other heaters. In winter I put the oil heater on the lowest setting 5 feet away from the enclosure and it keeps it pleasantly warm and is much safer for you and your gerbil(s). Stay cozy 🐀
I made it ☺️ I just got a long plank of wood, added screw in hooks at the top and glued some wood dowels along the length for steps - I also added cardboard guard rails after Pumbaa fell off once, you can see the upgraded version in my playpen video 🙂 I'm considering making them for my Etsy store at some point in the future as lots of people ask about it, so hopefully I can get that going soon 🤞
No, there's no scientific evidence for this 🙂 In the wild de-clanning tends to occur when infertile sub-adults become fertile & the only stable part of the "group" and only structure that naturally forms is the male-female pair (I talked about this more in my wild Gerbils video), this is why I recommend keeping gerbils in pairs rather than groups to help reduce the risk of de-clanning (it still may happen occasionally though it's less frequent in pairs). I hope this helps answer your question, let me know if there's anything else I can help you with ☺️
@@PetConnectionInternational TY so much and, yes, your answer helped a lot. I have a pair of brothers and had put them in the huge Niteangel enclosure. Then I heard that "myth" and got a little nervous, lol.
@@PetConnectionInternational I have the largest Vista one and it's amazing. So much room for having lots of bedding as well as "landscaping", toys, hides, wheels, etc.
@@JWE2Lover but you said you have a cage? You just use the top part 🙂 or failing that you can often find them fairly cheap secondhand on places like Facebook marketplace and Gumtree or other resale sites

@@PetConnectionInternational we have outdoor chipmunks that’ll have to do! 😉
Well they're both rodents, but one goes up, the other goes down 😅

Very true 😊
Aww they are so cute... I just can't... Although I wonder how stinky they are😂Nice tips btw.

That's a very good tip! My flat never really gets cold enough to need it tbh, but it'd definitely come in handy for people with chillier homes ☺️
Where did you get that long ladder???

I have a quick question. Is it true that there’s such a thing as an enclosure being too large and causing declanning?
No, there's no scientific evidence for this 🙂 In the wild de-clanning tends to occur when infertile sub-adults become fertile & the only stable part of the "group" and only structure that naturally forms is the male-female pair (I talked about this more in my wild Gerbils video), this is why I recommend keeping gerbils in pairs rather than groups to help reduce the risk of de-clanning (it still may happen occasionally though it's less frequent in pairs). @@RachelStormborn that's awesome! I'm glad to hear they're enjoying themselves, very lucky gerbs indeed ☺️
I don't have a Bigg enough cage for them to burrow😭
You can always get a large plastic tub and add your topper to it as a cheap upgrade ☺️
