Kilkenny, Ireland (St. Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny Castle, Live Pub Music)

Kilkenny, Ireland has a medieval history, starting with the Early Gothic St. Canice's Cathedral, which was built in the 13th century, although it's been a religious site since the 6th century. Inside, you will find several tombs that are over 500 years old. Kilkenny Castle was originally built in the 12th century as part of the defense of the town. It was the principal Irish residence of the powerful Butler family for almost 600 years. We took a self-guided tour inside. Finally, we stopped at historic Kyteler's Inn for dinner. We listened to some great traditional Irish music and my 18 year-old niece (the legal drinking age in Ireland is 18) had her first alcoholic drink ever! (yeah, right)

THESE OLD PRE-REFORMATION CATHEDRALS AND CHURCHES SHOULD BE USED BY BOTH THE PROTESTANT CHURCH OF IRELAND AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. AFTER ALL THESE WERE BUILT ORIGINALLY FOR THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE FIRST PEOPLE BURIED THERE WERE CATHOLICS.
