St Canice: An Irish Saint in a Norman Cathedral | Treasure Ireland

When the Anglo-Normans invaded Ireland in the 12th century, they were entering a country with a rich heritage of Christian prayer, and an abundance of native saints. How would the new arrivals deal with this inheritance? The liturgy celebrated in St Canice's Cathedral helps us answer that question.

Is that the same interior layout that most 12th century cathedrals would've had? I always thought the Anglicans added those choir pews after the reformation

Yea, that’s the rough layout! Choir stalls like that were typical of medieval cathedrals. You can see some medieval examples in the Church of Ireland Cathedral in Limerick.
