Ski's with adapters that clamp on to the tires would be a great way to get a little lift and would not require any modification to the trike. With the added benefit of being fast and easy to remove. I fly on the coast out here in NJ. I can manufacture the adapters. Let me know if you want to collaborate :)

As soon as you mentioned, "I'm going to try and land on the runway/taxiway", I immediately started shaking my head... no, no, no. As a driver of a snowmobile (in the past), I knew going over anything not snow means immediate loss of steering, especially concrete/asphalt. Your skis don't get a chance to dig in a channel on those surfaces, like they do snow, so there is no stability or steering. You're at the mercy of whatever forces happen on you. On a sled you pretty much angle where you need to go before you hit that surface, and then travel across in a straight line. Nice vid though!
Add two more ski's to the front (side-by-side-by-side) making a largerr planing platform (a wider stance means less sinking into the softer snows), and any snow thrown up, would go further to the sides, and not onto you. Rear ski's are adequate. Also, adding weight to the rear edge of the ski's, would cause them to rotate nose up during slow speed, and simply wind vane otherwise. Can also be done with a bungee on the nose to pull it up. Obviously, touching down will force the ski's flat again.
My friend built skis for his trike out of snowboards.you just have to add little scags on the rear so they dont slide out on takeoff or turning.A lot less resistance for take off.
Toni Poole, flies out of Northern MI, has a really elegant ski solution for her trike. It seems to allow for strong control and articulation. Your solution works great but if you ever chat her up, it might be interesting. Really opens the door to ice covered lakes as LZ.
I feel like I just watched a great short movie. Your thought process is so dead on from mounting the skis the way you did and then your opportunities for improvement you identified. Brilliant Mr. T!
Just a thought: be careful about drilling the hole larger in the snowmobile ski mounts. You're weakening the stiffness of the mount that way. You increased the size of the holes significantly, which took away from the distance between the top of the mount to the pole running through it. There's a lot of twist forces going through those mounts.
@@FullTiltOn I think that everyone who's ever modded something has had that moment where they think to themselves: I may have taken just a little too much off for safety's sake.

They also might be a little wider making it easier to ride over the snow, especially something with more powder. I'd love to see what you can come up with.
I think you just need to wax the skis because snow won’t blow on your face then so you have a accurate Weight on the trike PS I would do it at a ski shop to

Nice work Tucker. I think you need another set of skis to double your footprint so you won’t sink in the snow. Make a bracket that you can bolt two side by side and then bolt that adapter to the axle. It looked awesome.
Tucker spray a silicon based wax on the bottome of your ski's and let it dry the skis will slide over any thing after with no drag. also if you use a wider ski you can leave your tires in place and just strap the ski's to the tires to get your ground clearance your looking for. than all you will need to do is find away to keep the ski's up right so you don't crash when you land.
Hi Tucker. That Was Nothing Short Of EPIC!!! What A Great Idea! Of Course, ANYTHING Is A Great Idea If It Works... Which This Did. I Would LOVE To See You Perform More Modifications To The "Ski-Trike". You're Right, More Height Would Be Desirable... Maybe 4-6". My Heart Goes Out To Jaclyn, Though. She Looked COLD!!! But She Has A Cute Laugh, It's Adorable! lol
I'd see about getting a wider ski for the front also. To keep it from skidding around on the ice you could also put some steel runners on the skies just like snowmobiles. Won't help on pavement but on Ice the steel or carbide runners will give you near the same lateral ground holding power of wheels.
Do you have a video going over the anatomy of a paramotor? I would love to know about the basics or them because there isn't a lot of easily accessed information I know the core components but that's all surface level details.
A tip for you that I learned from ice fishing sleds. Spray the bottom of the skies with silicone spray, that will help the load to slide across the snow easier.
Awesome video! Definitely upgrade it, but stay safe. Raise it up to get your frame and prop away from the snow, and keep all the attachments to the skis inside the side of the skis so it won't throw snow up. Some kind of belly pan or fender probably wouldn't hurt either though.
Add a light weight aluminum 'skid' sheild mid point and back on the front ski to under the front of the seating position--- so kicked up snow is 'guided' down and under the chassis!
They do make ski setups for Ultra lites, that fit under the tire. Which would give you the clearance. May not fit your tires but should be close. Looks like it was a lot of fun. Do enjoy your site!!
Actual human snow skis would work better. They’re slipperier and can be canted a bit so the edges will grab laterally on ice. The base material is much slicker. They are probably lighter as well. Just calculate the length/ width based on skier weight.
I love the trike focused episodes! It would be awesome for you and Mike Patey to collaborate on a project in the future! Perhaps he could design and fabricate some skis with shock absorbers or something else for tour trike!
Some other comments recommended lubricating your skis (WD-40 or wax). You might also try some enormous balloon tires (as light as possible) replacing your 2 regular sized rear tires. Maybe a ski in front only for better steering but if you don't intend to toodle around the ground, put a large wheel on your nose, too. This would almost totally eliminate any drag on any condition, even sticky snow but might increase wind resistance. You'd have to figure out if the wheels are close enough to your body that aerodynamics would hide your wheels and not increase wind resistance that much.
That should work ok for the winter stuff. All I would change is I believe the front ski is always some wider than the back two so there is no digging in. Right now you're digging in a bit. Good video. Peace.
Switch those heavy sticky skis for Simmons skis, they're lighter and much better floatation and steering control. We have made the switch on all our snowmobiles, they work much better, especailly in wet snow.
Tucker, if you haven’t seen The World is Not Enough, a James Bond movie with Pierce Brosnan, you need to - it’s free on UA-cam right now - just for the snow paramotors scene!

I made my own skis out of skateboards from wally world. I only put a runner on the front one, on my first test the torque just made my trike spin out every time. Great for snow donuts though!
Hey Tucker, why don't you add an acrylic shield fixed to the front frame? or it would affect the air flow to motor? It could be a good idea for the winter. Less wind on your face and less snow for the take off! But very cool, the design is very nice with the pads... Cheers!
Three leaf springs, half the diameter of your wheel height will raise you up above the kicked up snow, and give the shock absorption your tires offer. Center your hubs just slightly forward of the balance point and they'll naturally nose up. Carbon Fiber leaf springs would do it.
Of course you are going to have to develop it further. Wouldn't be too hard to extend the skis using a triangle shaped bracket. Tje bracket extensions will also lift the front forks out of the snow. Then you need to work out how to put wheels just protruding slightly from the skis so if you need to land on a hard surface, you aren't being shifted around sideways. I hope you had a great Christmas.
Nice job on getting the ski's on there. KISS is always best when fabricating things. Looks like KISS won't work for the front though. Might need to link up with a fabricator and get a mount built that supports the ski from the center instead of the outer edges. That should mostly eliminate the snow being kicked up by the front.
Skis have skags, the steel in the ski helps it steer so if you feel like it over steers and the skags are 8 inches get 6 inch or 4 inch skags this will prevent over steering and flipping just FYI
Very cool! I always enjoy your vids! In your improvement ideas, you mention removing the steel runners. One thing that concerns me there is that I think you could loose ground stability without those. similar to the side skidding you encountered on the runway. Also, I'm wondering if you could find a bigger ski for the front, would that help eliminate it digging in and throwing up the snow.
It's going to take some Engineering to raise the Trike...I would recommend a fabricated triangle bracket to the skis! Aluminum of course! Now I'm really interested to see you do it!
Cool. I thought they were specifically made for the trike before the video came out. Could you leave the wheels on and mount the skis under the tires to lift it???
You need a wider ski at the front, like a snowboard or something, the weight is spread out on the back with 2 skis but concentrated on the front with 1 ski
Hey Tucker just wondering is the trike safer than the paramotor because I'm worried for safety concerns for me because I am a big guy and I'd like to try and start doing either paramotoring or doing the trike thing that you have once I lose some weight
I'm no pilot but I think lifting the trike machine would indeed help, especially in deeper snow. You may also want to adapt some kind of snow deflectors on the nose ski to keep snow from being thrown back onto you.

Upgrade approved. Go for it! The skis are awesome.
Ski planes use bungee cords in the front to lift the toe of the ski up with a steel cable to restrict the downward travel of the heel of the ski.
Thanks again for the flight! Cool skis idea.
Pretty awesome dude! I think a riser for sure and maybe a wider ski in the front for more flotation. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
9:04 Those Canadian geese sure are late this year
How about a spring set up on all three skis to keep them in the proper position after take off.
oh yeah definite trend you could be setting up, Tucker. I'm going to suggest to my diy eppg group to look at this option!
OH MY!!! Jacklyn, has a wonderful laugh!
Jaqueline's laugh was so contagious I couldn't help but chucukle at you myself
How the heck is there 5 dislikes!?!? Probably my favorite video of your so far, not even just cuz of the idea or whatever but oh my gosh hearing you and jaclynn (sorry for the spelling) laughing as hard as y’all were literally just made my whole day!! Haha thanks for that tuck!! I CANNOT wait until I’ve saved up enough of my pennies to grace the sky’s with y’all’s company someday hahaha. Keep it up brother!!
