@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n i think that was what they were implying when they said at the end that instead of putting it on the siblings to carry the "burden" it would be better to put him in a group home or some sort of housing for higher needs people. Seems to imply they're making some sort of plan to that nature, which supports him still being able to live as independently as he (relatively speaking) already seems able to without straining sibling relationships.

It is quite a journey guiding and mentoring my now 20 yr old son with autism. He has breakdowns, loses his temper, gets very frustrated. I try to push him towards socializing with others his age. He is taking a full schedule at college, but does not socialize with others. However, when he masks, he speaks so intelligently to anyone and they are impressed. He becomes exhausted after his encounters with other people. All I want is for him to be able to make a living and take care of himself. This clip is very enlightening.
My only worry with having kids like this, is who will take care of him when parents are gone. Too many times i see people like him get mistreated at the clinic at old age. Very sad
The scene when Duane put his hands around his mum and helped her walk is so touching and sweet for me, and when he helped with household chores and tries his best to be independent. God bless them all. ❤
Same. I never had a father. My whole life I always looked up to people who were dads and took care of their family. It’s a strange thought, I know but I just always looked up to people who were good dads
Yes, what a treasure his father is. This is the meaning of being a good father. It makes me want to be the best dad I can be. There's just something about seeing my 2 year old son light up like fireworks when I get home from work.
@skOsH I'm sorry about what you're going through. It's amazing how different ppl can be. Some fathers help their children cope with difficult health problems. Other fathers have totally healthy children and mistreat them. But even so, you have the power to choose to not let your father's actions determine your future, because then you are allowing him to continue hurting you.
Honestly, I’m glad my parents made the decision to come to the UK. I’m 15, my brother is a 13 year old non verbal autistic child. In India, whenever he has a tantrum or cries for something or screams, he gets stared at, given dirty looks and my mum was even told to “learn how to parent”, when really, he is just overwhelmed. India and other LIC countries should really be aware of these situations as they are increasing. The UK however, are so aware of the situation, help my brother whenever he needs. Thank god we’re here. Hope my brother likes it here too :)
TheOtherWhiteBread0 there’s some parents who aren’t capable of doing that though, which is why adoption exists. So no just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you can do that.
There's no telling how much struggle he has watched his son go through just to make it to today. I would be insanely proud of my son for making it that far in life with the world stacked against him.

The moment she said "how can i burden his siblings to take care of him" shows how much of a good mother is She equally cared for everyone That's a beauty of a mom
I don't agree. Duane's siblings should help. Otherwise it means they are very selfish people. That's the case in my family. Since my parents died, I have been left alone, coping alone with my depression by my mean, nasty sisters. I don't understand Duane's mother. I prefer his father who seems tender with him.Duane is not such an autistic case. He copes, I mean, he goes out on his own, attends a centre, does work there, gardening and does the laundry at his parents home. What else does the mother expect ? It is already pretty good.

@@marieboutin9054 I mean, I don't know the whole thing. But the meanest thing you siblings could do to a depressed you is not leaving you alone. If you're an adult and everybody is an adult, you're responsible of yourself. Your sisters have their own lives, they might not be able to check on your depressed self. You need to stand up by yourself and stop blaming other people. They who blame others will never get there. They who blame themselves is halfway there. They who blame no one is already there. So pick yourself up without relying on anybody and especially blaming them for your problem. And who are you to judge his mother? Are you him? Do you know how much she had done for him for the past 40 years? Sorry, you're not that much different of the description of being "mean." You know nothing and already compare people. That explain that Spore doctors are rubbish... haha... they cant diagnose autism... As a father of a little girl with special needs when he said "that's the beauty of my boy" with such pride? I felt that deep. Great examples of humans here.
It broke my heart to hear them say it would be a burden to ask the other siblings to care for him. I grew understanding that family is everything. These parents are beyond their time. I love how they said they cannot expect the siblings to take care of him because they dont want to stress the other kids out. Appreciate that so much.
Why do you appreciate that? That his siblings won't help is not a good thing. If not, then he will be neglected and given rudimentary care until he dies....that God his siblings don't have to help.🙄😒
@@moosepatil5946 You clearly don't have any empathy for the siblings then. They didn't choose to be born into a family with an autistic sibling. The expectation on them would mean they lose their right to live their own lives to the fullest. How do you know if they don't check in on him at all?
@jiaminsee283 So what. They are a part of the family. No one gets to choose their family, but if he was more able bodied, they would find a way to help. But because he requires a higher level of care, his siblings get to opt out? Shut up, your empathy is exclusively for the siblings and not this man who will not have a quality life once his parents die. His parents did it for 40 years, and his siblings can figure out how to help him, for his end of life care.
@@moosepatil5946 I empathise with everyone. And if he were more able bodied, they further wouldn't have the obligation to put him before themselves. I voice out for the siblings because they are almost always expected to take full responsibility and care for their disabled sibling to the point, they prioritise the sibling before themselves. Which isn't wrong, but so sacrificial. I hope siblings who see this video and stumble upon this comment, realise that their willingness to help care for their disabled sibling is a very admirable and selfless act, not obligatory.

My heart aches over the fact that one day his whole life is going to change once he’s placed in a care home. I ask god to give you extra lives to care for him as he’s in control of his condition. :(
My brother is exactly like him and when my father dies my brother will come and live with me. Burdening siblings is an interesting statement because family should always come first and even though it is difficult at times with my brother I cannot imagine him being locked up in a home somewhere. If Duane was going to end up in a home then he should never have gotten used to being in a family and in a loving environment just to be put into one of those places. I am not knocking the parents because they are doing the best that they can but for me it kind of seems like the siblings are trash for not even offering. But hey everyone is different.

One of my closest friend has a younger brother with autism (altho not a intense one) and her parents put the burden on her. Although some were unconscious on their part, she has so much stress from it it's ridiculous. She basically teaches her brother his school curriculum when she herself is a college student.
I really admire them for doing that. It's good to let your other children to strive for the best in lives without putting your responsibility and burden to them. Most parents do the complete opposite where they expect at least one of their children to carry all the family's burden.
@@iloveicecream127 I have a friend who is burdened too by his sibling. The mom can't do it all. His father died last year. @jiaminsee283 So what. They are a part of the family. No one gets to choose their family, but if he was more able bodied, they would find a way to help. But because he requires a higher level of care, his siblings get to opt out?
