@@ryebread105 Alongside praying, take the time to learn about autism and how to deal with it. Learn this from the side of the parent as well as the side of the one with autism so that you can give help and tips that are specific for those circumstances. I was 6 when I was diagnosed with autism and I never received the help I needed, but you can still give your kid a good life if you prep right.

I'm a 6'4" 230 lbs man estranged from my family and children... The love this man has for his boy just made me cry. I miss my family.
These parents are beyond their time. I love how they said they cannot expect the siblings to take care of him because they dont want to stress the other kids out. Appreciate that so much.
Why do you appreciate that? That his siblings won't help is not a good thing. You really think workers will treat him as good😂 His quality of life will free fall and if God is good, he will follow his parents shortly afterward. If not, then he will be neglected and given rudimentary care until he dies....that God his siblings don't have to help.🙄😒
@@moosepatil5946 You clearly don't have any empathy for the siblings then. They didn't choose to be born into a family with an autistic sibling. The expectation on them would mean they lose their right to live their own lives to the fullest. How do you know if they don't check in on him at all?
@jiaminsee283 So what. They are a part of the family. No one gets to choose their family, but if he was more able bodied, they would find a way to help. But because he requires a higher level of care, his siblings get to opt out? Shut up, your empathy is exclusively for the siblings and not this man who will not have a quality life once his parents die. His parents did it for 40 years, and his siblings can figure out how to help him, for his end of life care.
@@moosepatil5946 I empathise with everyone. And if he were more able bodied, they further wouldn't have the obligation to put him before themselves. I voice out for the siblings because they are almost always expected to take full responsibility and care for their disabled sibling to the point, they prioritise the sibling before themselves. Which isn't wrong, but so sacrificial. I hope siblings who see this video and stumble upon this comment, realise that their willingness to help care for their disabled sibling is a very admirable and selfless act, not obligatory.

@ZenPhilosopher123 I have autism and I used to use heroin. My life is a living hell everyday I struggle but the drugs made it worse. Glad I'm sober now but unfortunately I cant stop being autistic. It hurts so much to know that im different then everyone else and to be reminded by everyone I meet. I wish I could make friends and be someone but that is just not what people like me are destined for :(

As someone who has been around people on the spectrum from a very early age, I understand it's hard for you, but some of my best friends are autistic. As a high functioning autistic, this really hits close to home. I'm so glad that he has parents that understand his struggles and care so much for him. I know he loves that deeply even if he can't put it in the right words.
As someone with high functioning autism as well i would say his struggle is much greater than ours. I would say that its nowhere close to home. Don't be a drama queen.

Even the so called healthy are not staying with their parents in their old age, some are even abandoning the old who really need help. All they wanted is to be around their loved ones when they are old and vulnerable.

I got auti immune disease... and been in and out hospital and doctors said nothing wrong with me... they even assume I am crazy and started to assume I have anxiety... then one day go to a gp... and then he finally identified my illness and give me proper medication...

We're all different some more then others but treat everyone with respect my mom was disappointed in me when I was harsh on an ass whole kid she told me she knows it hard but just be nice and good stuff will come
My mother is a swimming instructer and has taught quite a few kids with autism. She always talk, interact and tell the whole class to interact with these autistic kids in the most normal way. It was incredible to see the kids' improvement result from love, friendship and fun sport activities.
I have high functioning autism and this connected with me very well. I have high functioning so I don’t have noticeable autism unless people ask me, but socializing has been very difficult. In high school, A lot of people thought I was weird because of my obsession over certain topics and me blurting out random thoughts as a result of my autism. I love seeing videos like this, as it makes me realize that autism awareness is becoming more widespread.
I dunno if i have high function autism like you but i feel like im a little bit more towards the middle of the spectrum. I got thru high school had no friends because its hard to socialize and couldnt go to college cause i couldnt keep up no matter how much i tried. No friends caused me depression which led to diabetes. Then i tried to work but its really awkward when you have to socialize to sell to them and i just couldnt do it so i been unemployed the last 13 yrs. Cant ask for help thru the government because so many people faking it that its screening process takes forever. I know that there are autistic ppl on the lower spectrum worse than me and then theres ppl on the higher end who can maintain their lives and can hold a job. Then theres me in the middle.. ive thought about suicide so many times i just dont know how to live..

I don't agree. Duane's siblings should help. Otherwise it means they are very selfish people. That's the case in my family. Since my parents died, I have been left alone, coping alone with my depression by my mean, nasty sisters. I don't understand Duane's mother. I prefer his father who seems tender with him.Duane is not such an autistic case. He copes, I mean, he goes out on his own, attends a centre, does work there, gardening and does the laundry at his parents home. What else does the mother expect ? It is already pretty good.

If you're an adult and everybody is an adult, you're responsible of yourself. Your sisters have their own lives, they might not be able to check on your depressed self. I’m 45 and my son is 13 with autism, on the high end of the spectrum. He’s nonverbal and is still in pull-ups. Sometimes I worry about the future, but god helps those who help themselves. I love him more than life itself and all you can do is keep pushing forward.

Yes, what a treasure his father is. This is the meaning of being a good father. It makes me want to be the best dad I can be. There's just something about seeing my 2 year old son light up like fireworks when I get home from work.

@skOsH I'm sorry about what you're going through. It's amazing how different ppl can be. Some fathers help their children cope with difficult health problems. Other fathers have totally healthy children and mistreat them. But even so, you have the power to choose to not let your father's actions determine your future, because then you are allowing him to continue hurting you.

Videos like this help me so much as an outsider. My neighbor has a son with ASD similar in nature to Duane. When I first moved in they invited me over to his birthday and it was clear they were attempting to connect as he frequently goes outside to vocalize--yell, sing, etc.--and I'm sure it's not the easiest conversation to have with a neighbor.
He's a good kid. I'm not saying that because it's he has ASD and he automatically gets a pass or something. He happens to be loud and disruptive, sure, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's good. Living next to him has made me really evaluate how I look at others. I don't have to like when he's outside being loud, and frankly it's not my responsibility as a stranger to tolerate it. But I'm honored and humbled that I get to, because it's shaped me in ways that has tangibly improved my quality of life.
I'm a decent guy, but I'm no saint. Accepting my neighbor's kid doesn't make me a good person. Rather, how the parents look at him is, in a very minor way, how my neighbor is changing me. He's loud because it's comforting to him in a way I can't possibly empathize with, and I'm so happy to have him change my perspective on how to interact with others. Both those with ASD and without. Someone cuts me off in traffic? It's so hard to simply rage at that individual now. That's reckless and could harm themselves or others. Are they rushing to the hospital? Did they have a terrible day and aren't thinking straight? It's so hard now to assume everyone I meet is just some burden on my schedule. I don't have to excuse them, but I can try to understand. What does it cost me to do that much?
I need videos like this because I have to give back to my neighbors. They know full well that I accept them and do not mind the noise--they have enough to worry about without having to constantly worry if I'm about to go rage on their son for interrupting me or something. But I can do more to help him feel like just another person in the world. Build a routine with a neighbor like anyone else. Wave when I'm gardening, smile when I see him...just be a neighbor to another neighbor.
He's different in ways that are difficult for his family and others to tolerate, of course. But he's also forced me to build an empathy within myself--a whole aspect that I can be proud of--and that should be recognized too. I don't blame anyone that would be unable to tolerate this situation at all. But speaking solely for myself, it's been nice to accept that someone can be difficult and also good and beautiful.
I mean, hell...I'm certain I'm a straight pain in the ass too, even if it's not as apparent.
My only worry with having kids like this, is who will take care of him when parents are gone. Too many times i see people like him get mistreated at the clinic at old age. Very sad

My son and 80% of the kids at his school (for autism) ALL have the same exact WALK as Duane. I love it. It's purposeful and deliberate and I smile every day I drop my son at high school.

My brother has autism there is also something with his nerves (he feels pain hot and cold things a lot less).
He wants to eat way too mutch because he can't feel that he is full. So we restrict him on eating witch he doesn't like at all.
But he also helps a lot around the house but that doesn't fill his day so he is bored all the time. Because of that he can be more difficult to handle.
My mom and dad are doing their best they have 5 kids and are both working (part time and full time)
If you ever see someone that looks or sounds weird or differend please consider they can't so anything about it and treat them with respect

It broke my heart to hear them say it would be a burden to ask the other siblings to care for him. I grew understanding that family is everything. If anyone of my siblings or parents suffered with a medical or mental health condition, it would be my honor to care for them as best as I can. I wish we all felt that way. Duane deserves to be around family and what’s familiar to him.

Fineapple Felicity my brother has severe form of autism. Chrome-some 2 deletion. He will never live by himself and he gets startled and agitated very quickly. Hes 14 now my mother is 45 she will be taking care of him until she dies. I asked her me being the oldest if shed want me to do it. She said she didnt want ti burden us with him that shed give him to her brother my uncle. Because to her thats her child she wants her children to live thier lives. Now of course id gladly take him but still you have to understand where the mother is coming from

Apologies if my comment doesn't seem relevant but I'm crying right now.....I'm 55 and I'm raising my beautiful daughter who will be turning 17 this year. She has a moderate intellectual disability and extreme generalized anxiety disorder as well as sensory processing disorder. She wasn't able to cope with school so she's been homeschooled. Every day is a challenge especially when she suffers from hormone disregulation.....we're having a challenging week currently because of her cycle and her discomfort and intense anxiety is hard to bear. Her younger sister is a literal Godsend and I'm blessed that they're very close. I worry about how her life when I'm gone....I wont be able to pass away peacefully knowing that she still needs me. I see people staring when we're out because she'll often hold my hand.....cant imagine what they're thinking. She's so precious and truly the most gentle person I've ever know. Yes she's special!!!! I applaud the strength and bravery of this man's loving Mum and Dad🙏
Look into a functional medicine doctor or naturopath. A lot of times these issues can stem from an unhealthy gut, poor diet (nutritional deficiencies), and an overactive mind. A behavioral therapist and meditation could be useful.
I was diagnosed with adhd, GAD, and depression and nutritional therapy and working on gut health has been a game changer. I almost dropped out of high school I was so bad. I'm now in my mid 20s, own a house, am married with a dog, have 2 jobs, and am going to school.
These issues are complicated but working with a professional (not a traditional MD) can help.

One of my best friends growing up had autism. Indeed, it was difficult to deal with the tantrums because of his incredible strength. One incredibly heartbreaking moment is when his mother told us that he said he realized that something was wrong with him. He was also very sweet like Duane.
This hit hard, my son is 7 and has autism. He is learning and is able to function up to a certain point but it’s clear that he will always be looked on by most people as different. I am here for him now but once I am gone I do worry that his life will be difficult, who will take care of him? He is such a sweet boy, not one mean bone in him, I always worry that people will try to take advantage of him. Both myself and my wife are doing our best to make sure he can learn as much as possible to have a wonderful life and a happy one

All I can do is to be there for him as much as possible, encourage his independence, and continue to love him so that he will never stop smiling. I hope that one day he will call me "Papa” !

Depends on the family. It's been relatively easy in my family, because most of us are autistic. That includes me, my sibling, my father, my grandmother, and probably individuals further back. It was actually the neurotypical ones in the family that were a struggle to deal with, and they oftentimes ended up getting rejected from the family for causing issues.
Other families have an opposite story, but it varies. Same goes for families with ADHD, where it's usually the case that most immediate relatives don't have ADHD but almost half or a little less do, and so there's oftentimes a lot of conflict between the neurotypical parents of ADHD children and vice versa. Point is that it doesn't just go for families where autism is present, it becomes difficult for parents when their child has even the most common of neurological/neurodevelopmental/mental conditions. Whether it's autism, ADHD (or anything else), point still stands. Autism is not unique here.
I hope that wherever he ends up he's treated with kindness, love and respect.

It is quite a journey guiding and mentoring my now 20 yr old son with autism. He has breakdowns, loses his temper, gets very frustrated. I try to push him towards socializing with others his age. He is taking a full schedule at college, but does not socialize with others. However, when he masks, he speaks so intelligently to anyone and they are impressed. He becomes exhausted after his encounters with other people. All I want is for him to be able to make a living and take care of himself. This clip is very enlightening.
Someday my son will be 40 and I’m going to be that father. How I wish I can stay longer on earth to support my autistic son forever.

Majority of people in the world does not even comprehend the amount of sacrifice and effort the parents had to endure having a child with autism. My son is now 11 years old. He was diagnose with autism when he was 6 years old. The parents really need to be very dedicated and faithful. You really need God's help when there is nothing else you can do. Especially when he has bad days or meltdown. It's very hard for a parent to see their child going through it. I'm glad I ran by to this video. Kudos to the parents.

It’s a good rule to live by. Be proud of your kids for what they can do, don’t focus on being disappointed in them for what they can’t do.
@Josh Hale mostly that throughout the hardships his sons had to overcome and is still dealing with, he doesn’t complain. He puts on his warrior suit every day and struggles like everyone else, but a little more than most. That’s something to be very proud of, I think.
