I may not play HD2, but seeing the community and devs come together to reject Sony's decision, which in turn caused them to back down on their decision, is a beautiful thing to see.

A great chance to force potential customers into using your product, is a great way to loose potential customers.
This more than anything is what must have made Sony backtrack, and if they pull anything like this again we should call for people to boycott PSN.

what's especially cool about valve setting the refunds on steam to automatic regardless of playtime is that valve initially eats the cost of refunding the game, and then deducts it from their monthly payment to the publisher and/or devs. with 177 of the roughly 195 territories on the entire planet losing access to the game, and the majority of players who didn't lose access not wanting to do as sony says for many good reasons (it being unfair to everyone else, not liking that sony basically conned people, not wanting to put personal info into sony's wildly insecure system, making an account for every single goddamn thing being the death of modern entertainment, etc), that could've quickly gone from "valve is cutting sony's pay significantly" to "valve is now demanding money from sony because they are losing money due to being given an apparently bad product"
now obviously this most likely stems from valve just not wanting to get caught up in the backlash and being able to afford the hit if it meant not being boycotted, but part of me likes to think they were subtly twisting sony's arm from behind the curtain. either way, this is exactly why i don't mind steam functionally being a monopoly. valve may get on my nerves sometimes, but they know where to draw the line when it comes to how you can treat your consumer base
