    I fully understand 20mph through heavily pedestrianised areas and school zones but it's stupid in most other places.

    Where I live in Wales, we are NOT complying, by way of self policing ourselves. There are no, ANPR cameras to speak of in the countryside locations.

      Just check the route to see how much the rally will be affwcted. Most roads will be outside the 20 and much of what you previously did at 30 was often not possible to achieve even that.

    You are asking whats going to happen in a small town/village when it is busy, as someone who has 20mph in Edinburgh your going to get a lot more standing traffic youll use a lot more fuel as you do not really get into top gear, or you do what most in Edinburgh do and ignore it , dont forget its a safety thing but you spend your time watching the speedo instead of the road

      I live in the Conwy valley (30 limit zone)and the effect has been spectacular. Cars that usually passed my house at 50-60 now travel at 30-40! Life for the locals is far more quiet and . journey times are hardly affected. Try driving from the South say Wilmslow into Central Manchester during the day using 30 limit roads only and from your milage and timing work out your average speed. The result will shock you.

    • @br5380
      @br5380 9 місяців тому

      As someone who lives just outside Edinburgh I reckon the 20 limits mean there are LESS standing traffic, no one was running in top doing 30, fuel usage to 20 will be less than 30 (use the right gear), whether at 20 or 30 you should already know what speed you're doing.

    Years ago, Manchester and one other local authority discovered their 20 limits increased casualties or made no difference. The conclusion was that pedestrians became complacent and drivers paid less attention at lower speeds.
    ALso, pollution. Lower speed = longer journey time = lower gear = increased revs = more emissions.
    Welsh bus companies are struggling to achieve schedules now and couriers must be having a hard time maintaining deliveries.
    Any safety drive shouls address pedestrian education. Historically around 85% of injury accidents are caused by the pedestrian.
    This isn't about safety, it's an element of the global agenda to eliminate personal mobility and isolate us in ghettos.
    Thw Welsh Assembly is complicit in this crime against humanity.

    I sold my FJR1300 a few years ago, it was too easy to get fined for speeding with average-speed cameras and mobile camera vans springing up like weeds. I agree that a bike with decent power is now a waste of money, plus the higher insurance premiums for power you can't really use. My XJR1300 went as it was not ULEZ-compliant, plus we are now 20mph in London.

    20 mph limit now and what's next? 15? 10? 5? Soon they are going to want us all to walk or cycle only (although TBH you can easily exceed the 20 mph limit on a bicycle). Lowering the speed limits is not the answer, instead they should pay more attention and effort to educate the drivers / riders more so they don't exceed the speed limits. Here's a video of my motorcycle commuting in London from a few years back - soon you can see filtering like this only in old YT videos :(

    Hard to complain about the 20 in that particular location. A busy sea front road should be 20, in my opinion. Pedestrians are more likely to be clueless, even if they drive! Most residential areas in my town are 20 now, and rightly so. A young kid was knocked down on my housing estate a few years before the 20 was introduced!

      Where it’s sensible to drive slowly the vast majority of drivers do exactly that anyway ,but blanket 20mph speed limits aren’t needed everywhere , added to which people that habitually speed aren’t going to stop just because of a 20 mph sign , sledgehammer to crack a nut springs to mind .

    • @wordreet
      @wordreet 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Rugbyman269 I agree and would say it's penny pinching not to separate out some roads that really benefit from the 20 and not others. Here in Exeter it's the centre of town and various housing estates, kind of thing. But the major roads still have some sections at 30.

      @@wordreet Where we live in Wales the 20 zones are actually well implemented, as much as it pains me to say. Main roads are 30 until they are built up where they drop to 20. I havent seen any national speed limit roads that are now 40. In fact a bit of road that was stupidly a 20 before is now a 30!

    Why would you want to go more than 20mph in built up areas and places with a lovely view? Unless you're a selfish moron. My bike does more than 150mph allegedly but never has because i don't want to or need to. Even on the Isle of Man i ride steady because i prefer to. The national speed limit in the mainland is 70 and the congestion makes it unpleasant and tiring to try and do more . Track days are the answer for speed freaks.
