That is one downside to a heated shelter camp. It takes about 2 hours to fully setup aka stocked with wood etc etc So it is better for a muti day stay. That said the all surrounding heat reverses the 2 hours in about 15 minutes. It is amazing. Thanks for watching.

I never go anywhere with out my 1987 Swiss army knife. Though I lost the toothpick , I still have the original tweezers. My trusty swiss army knife has never let me down and has been instrumental in building around five hundred different shelters from tarp tee-pee's to full on stick and string shacks complete with bed and porch bench. Can hardly tell it's been used...though I use it every day since I live out in the wilderness and have renounced the tyrants who run the country of my birth.

In your opinion what is the best stove? I'm interested in a stove for a six man tent, occupied by two persons. I'd like a decent size cooking surface, say four to six cup capacity. Floor less shelter is very adventurous in winter. I can walk into the shelter with my boots on. I don't need to worry about the floor being melted by the stove. I don't need to worry about damaging the floor processing wood. i rarely use a floor when winter camping though do have a ground cloth under my sleeping area. I do have multiple lanterns and on occasion use them. I am wearing a headlamp which is great. Thanks for watching.
Very nice set up man! Like the stove do have a question for you . I built a stove for my canvas military tent for spring camp . Just curious does that birch wood burn over night ? I've got a small dampening inlets on the door but believe I'll have to add some down below Any suggestions for over night burning (woods, adding components etc) Thanks buddy

When the little stove is on inside the camp...the snow on the floor may melt...why not scrape o some snow off to the outside just for the sleeping area in case it gets all wet and muddy?
I have a ground cloth for my sleeping area and a closed cell pad for my sitting area. I don’t bother with anything else and it has never been a problem. Thanks for watching!
Boy, I know that apprehension going down a steep slope with snowshoes and a heavy pack. I have tripped on a branch while wearing same gear, and it is a massive challenge getting back up in deep snow. The weight of the pack wants to bury your head, and you can't just lift yourself with your arms, because they just sink into the snow.
Kevin the walker has passed away, but the stove wouldn't really fit against the tent pole that way also NEVER lay in your bedding while tending the fire or have flames facing your bedding quick way to lose everything or die🤣

The heat exchanger does two functions. 1. It transfers some of the heat which would be blown out the pipe to the shelter allowing more usable BTUs from the same wood. 2. Very effective spark screen. Thanks for watching!

sounds like so much fun but if you were to leave during the next few days and your tracks were totally covered by snow for me it would be Hell as I am the worst Navigator on Planet Earth. would tying bright coloured tape to guide my way out to trees be a good thing??
I often mark my camp at night by using a LED lantern. Never marked my camp during the day but anything which keeps someone from getting turned around certainly couldn't be bad.
I have an insulated air pad and worry sparks might fly out the door during feeding and damage it. Also the stove is facing the door which is used to bring in more wood etc etc. I would have to drag that over my sleeping bag and pad. It's just easier to stock the stove and turn in for the night. @@RVBob It's actually a good idea, just not for me and have seen others do it during group winter camping trips. Sometimes people do sleep with the stove facing their bag. A shelter called the Sawtooth is setup making that easier. store.kifaru.net/sawtooth-p86.aspx Also good for stoking in the am without the need to get out of the bag. I have not seen a side feeding stove.
Small Kifaru (no longer made). The small is a bit too small for my 6-man in the cranking cold however the med might work though never tried one in a 6 man.
One of my favorite camping spots. Hard to find a flat area for a tipi. I actually packed the snow down in another area and dang it there was a very dead tree within range. So needed to move to known ground. If I don't go there than I have to hit the AT. Thanks for watching!

That was a six man. Eight man tipis great but I’ll don’t have one. I am actually typing this from a kifaru 4-man with liner. Maybe sub zero outside but 90° Inside. I have used Kifaru tipis Over 10 years now. Great gear but expensive.
I agree that Kifaru gear is expensive. From the videos I've seen their tipi/shelter fabric is much more tear resistant than other similar lightweight waterproof fabrics and it is custom made for them. It also seems that Kifaru doesn't offer a 4 man or 6 man tipi any longer. They go from the Tut to the Sawtooth to the 8 man tipi and then up from there.
It is a shame Kifaru also stopped making the Small sized box stove as well. I can say the Sawtooth is a very nice shelter. Don't own one but did hang out inside a friends. Thanks for watching!

yes. Surveyers tape is what I use. Great thought. I was lost for 3 days once. Lesson about breaking branches I guess.
