Had to replace this on my Impreza, though it was a TR580, so a bit cheaper since the transmission doesn't need to be drained in the process.
Ended up getting Subaru to reimburse me for the part. If you've got a PZEV model and live in the right state this is covered under the 15y/150k PZEV emission warranty.

Thank you for so much info and advice my question is Could a Subaru cvt transmission be saved? I understand that is a loaded question because of so many variables but let's assume that most everyone who reads this has a basic understanding of broken beyond repair. But since the cvts were designed to not be serviced thats why I ask.

Thanks for the videos. I enjoy learning from you. How do you know if it is just a valve body that needs to be replaced or if the entire CVT needs to be replaced? Code U0101 lost com with TCM, U0155 lost com with inst panel cluster, P0974 shift solenoid A high, P2770 torque converter clutch circuit high, U0122 CAN (VDC) data not loaded, P2763 torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid high, P0700 TCS, U0100 lost com with ECM/PCM A and P0977 shift solenoid B control high. This is a big cost difference and trying to find someone you trust is hard. TIA.

What was the symptom that led to you making this replacement? You mentioned in the wheel bearing video that you are planning on replacing the torque converter also. What is it doing or acting like that is leading to you replacing that also?
These videos are very timely for me, I have a 2012 Outback limited with 188k miles and I need to replace both rear wheel bearings (and possibly drivers side front) and I’m having “near stall” behavior on acceleration from stop when in automatic.

Any chance a faulty valve body would mask a failing CVT? Went in for the solenoid code and got the valve body replaced... now I'm being told its not running correctly and needs a new tranny. No other codes or driving performance issues were present beforehand. Thanks for the great vids. I would have followed this to a T if I ended up doing it myself.. which I now wish I had.

I have AT Oil temp light on as well but no shuddering/stalling at stops or low speeds. I have 165K on my 2013 Outback 2.5i limited. I am thinking the valve body is toast. However, I notice the paddle shifters do not show any indicator at all, no 1 - 2 - 3 4 for gears. Is this also a sign the valve body could be shot? The vehicle does drive but the AT Oil temp light comes on instantly at start. Any thoughts appreciated.

I have watched a dozen of your videos and they convinced me that I can repair this! Thanks for that already. I am trying to get a new solonoid valve body send to me... Costs a little fortune to get it here but it is still half the price of German Subaru. Big question though: It is the AWD Solonoid. Do you think it will damage the transmission or clutch if I drive another 2.000 km until I get the replacement part? And is there any way to measure if it is just a loose plug or bad cable WITHOUT draining the transmission oil?

Hey Mr Subaru, can you do a video on replacing the lock up solenoid on the valve body? And maybe explain why Subaru doesn't change this part and instead just replaces the whole valve body though the solenoids are available from the manufacturer? I must have missed the link as to why they don't do that.
