I go to gym twice a week and use softly silver is shampoo with conditioner. Little expensive for small bottle. Is it ok to mix my own purple Hampton with purple conditioner?
I have paid upwards of $50 for heat protectant spray but the best one I have every used is Tresemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protectant Spray. Comes in a red bottle and retails for about $7. It's smooths without greasiness and smells great.
Thanks for a great video. I would love to see cheap vs. expensive frizz control products put to the test. (Specifically Color Wow Dream Coat vs. Frizz Ease and other cheaper options.) It's a testament to how much I enjoy this kind of video that I watched this all the way through. I'm generally fighting with my hair not to get huge, lol.
Hi Justin, love this series. I'm sure everyone would love to splurge on luxe brands but most of us are looking for the best bang for your buck. If I have one ask to add a layer into this project, I'd be curious about the ingredients and whether the products contain things that will be better / worse for your hair. If the cheap ones will ruin your hair it's not worth it imo
Wondering where you found the Spa mouse? Your like says it is $18 for 2 cans and when I search online, the price is around $9-$11 a can…I want to try it, but not at those prices. Excellent point about scent/smell. I work in a scent free environment - deodorant, hair products, laundry detergent - everything must be scent free. Which I appreciate because scents trigger me tossing my cookies and out with a migraine level headache.
@@seattle1898My guess is that all three products in this video were from Dollar Tree considering he said they collectively cost $3.75 (Dollar Tree=$1.25). There are lots of 3rd party resellers on Amazon, EBay, Walmart that sell Dollar Tree items for huge markups.
Thx so much for your efforts! I appreciate knowing from an expert as to what is recommended on the cheap! I stare at the wall of products at the store and wonder what is healthy, actually works and is affordable. (And smells good!) So many products have creeped up over the $10 mark. (And to be honest, I hate to pay over $6 for any item) Tests on inexpensive shampoos, conditioners, etc are all appreciated on this curly haired girl. I will be trying the Spa Luxury. Thank you!
I used to use Got2Be Volumaniac and it was amazing. I have super straight, thin hair and I never found anything better. Ulta quit carrying it and then I would order online from CVS. Now it has disappeared expect for Amazon at $25 and up. I’ve pretty much tried everything you’ve shown here and the last video. I did grab a mini tresseme (again). It was okay. I've noticed Suave Extra Hold Shaping Mousse has a ton of great reviews on the Walmart website. I've never tried it but based on that I'd probably give it a try next time I buy. Your review would be great! Thanks for the nod to budget products!
I tried the tresseme after the last video and while it did give volume, my hair felt like straw when I used it. I also found if very difficult to pull the round brush through my hair. I appreciate the effort you put into these tests!
I live on the Texas gulf coast and humidity is so high that when I style my hair and go outside it falls very fast. My hair is straight so getting it to hold a curl requires a lot of hairspray. I don't like the way it makes my hair feel so I've pretty much given up trying to make it curl. I tried growing it out to my shoulders but gave up and just had it cut short finally the other day and it's easier to style plus I wash my hair daily anyway. I really enjoy your videos thank you😊
I hear ya. Humidity is a killer! I'm actually testing som popular anti frizz/humidity products in a video that should come out in the next few weeks. It may have some insight for you!
That's interesting! 👍🏻🙂 I would love for you to do this kind of testing for texturizing products. Between the mousses, powders, pommades... it gets confusing and it's not easy to find something that gives definition without making your hair feel dirty.
I live in Florida. If yiu have straight hair I recommend Goldwell Smooth - it makes the hair smooth! If you have curls I used Davine Curl cream and Marc Anthony Strictly Curl, that one is available at walmart 👍
I really appreciate you finding value in drugstore products. Just like makeup and skincare, haircare has come a very long way in quality for the price. I have used Biolage shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair for probably 30 years or more maybe. I got onto it because it was the only one that I noticed a big difference in my acne. Changing shampoos can still make my skin act up even at 61 years old. Biolage has gotten so expensive. I notice that Sally Beauty Supply has all these generic type products that say compare to Nexxus or compare to Biolage etc. They are much less expensive than the original, I wonder if they are really comparable in ingredients and performance and fragrance.

Hi my guy!!!!…another great video!!!…this is really helping people SO much with the way the economy and the world is right now!….you nailed it, as always!!!!…much love and appreciation, always, to you!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜
Justin I love these comparison. One thing I look at when buying products for my hair is what will it due in the long run. I will give up some performance for products that don’t harm my hair as much as a higher performing product. So unfortunately I usually have to pay more for my hair care then what I would like to.
I have been using Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Foam for years but before your videos bought the Color Wow to compare. Not sure yet but love these cheaper choices.
I'm wondering, though, do the inexpensive products contain ingredients that over time will damage hair? I used to use an inexpensive drugstore shampoo and thought it was getting my hair really clean and giving good volume, when in fact my stylist told me that I was drying out and damaging my fine hair. I purchased the Color WOW after watching your last video, and OMG - best volume product ever for this fine-hair gal!! Not only do I get great volume, but my hair is nice and soft and bouncy and finally - for the first time in 62 years - my day 2 hair still looks clean. No sticky build up. It is the holy grail for me.
Love all your videos. I finally learned how to blow dry my hair the correct way. Thanks for doing these affordable test. Could you do one on heat protection. Thanks 😊
Great videos! Hair spray should be the next video. I would love to see if you can find a dupe for Aveda Air Control. It is a whopping $40 per can! I have been unable to find anything like it and it is worth every penny. Thanks for all the information.
I really love these videos! I spent a ton of money on my hair which I don’t mind doing but it would be nice to save on some of my products. I did buy the color. Wow, from the last video. And wow it really is great. How about videos on hairspray? Might be a little harder to control the variables, but it would be nice to hear what the options could be.
I’d like u to show the best product and best tools for bobbed hair to get very straight hair that lasts and also waves that stay in even for the following day ❤
Hi Justin…I’m really enjoying your video content. Could you do a product video on how to control thick 2B wavy hair? I style my hair in the morning using gel and then scrunching, straighten the bangs, then go out for a walk and come back with large frizzy hair with bangs sticking out in all directions. 😔
I’m a curly girl (wavy) who only uses silicone free products. Hormones have made my hair change so much in recent years. I can’t buy all of the expensive products. One line that I do like is herbal essence , especially the mousse. The curly one. I’ve always used gel but recently I’m thinking mousse may be better for how my hair is now. I want more volume than I care about definition these days. I’d love to see you test that mousse to see if it really is the best one for volume and some definition.
This was a great video. Can you test different brushes? Like a Wet Brush vrs a Flat brush? This was the first year l used a wet brush and l don't know where l have been all my life. I love it.❤❤❤
Hi Justin, You are an unbelievable teacher. Iv only watched 2 of your series and learnt a hec of a lot. When it comes to mousse should I use strong, medium or light. Many many thanks
Just bought WOW but the one minute styling crème. I have a long bob but I am growing out my gray white. I also like my hair very straight. We shall see
Helium brand volumizer products are my favorite- have you tried any of those? They are expensive so I need to try something else☺️ thanks for these videos
Wow, I guess everyone went and bought the Spa Luxury cause it’s not available on the link 😂😂 Thanks for testing $ vs $$$, these are SO helpful! I think I better wait till you’re done testing all though cause I’m gonna have a lot more products on my shelf 😂😂
I would love this slso...my natural gray/silver hair is so dry, wavy and the texture looks like cotton candy. I am at a loss as to what to do and use on my hair. I have to blow dry or it looks worse, and I do not want to use any other heat styling on it...
Please test round brushes for volume and hair health. So today's test takes us to that old expression "you get what you pay for!" I do like the Color Wow foaming mousse. I also like Bed Head Queen For a Day spray. Thanks, Justin.
Great idea! Thank you! Question,. what do you WISH round brushes did differently than they do? Anything you would change about them to create the "perfect" roundbrush?
@@justinhickoxSome round brushes break hair. I want volume, shine, no breakage or kinking,.and no static.. I realize a conditioner after shampooing helps with static. At least it does for me. And my HVAC system's humidifier in the winter is a weapon against static as well .
Justin, curious as to how Tresemme extra volume mousse (which I use) holds up to Spa Luxury. I am open to trying Spa Luxury to see for myself. Tresemme’s mousse cost about 2 1/2 times more than Spa Luxury (which I never heard of until now). Love these videos!🥰
I transitioned to gray a couple of years ago. I have naturally wavy hair that I had been straightening with heat styling for nearly 45 years. I have finally embraced the heavy wave pattern as well as my gray. I have not used any dryers or heat tools on my hair since May 2024. As you know gray hair leans to the course side. What products would your test and recommend for gray, course, wavy hair.
Very good comparison, I think it would be good if you make the sleep test too, when laying down lots of volume goes away, altho a mannequins head is not so heavy as a humans !❤
Thanks for the video. I saw an older video of yours and I thought you clearly were against drug store products, let alone Dollar Tree ! lol. Anyway, have you tested the Loreal and Dove bond products? Are they good in your view?
And I was already picturing his neighbor looking in his livingroom window from across the street, and seeing him run his fingers through all the mannequin head's hair every hour! 😂
Can you do a video for the opposite? It’s odd I k ow but I’m looking for hair products to give me a stick straight, no frizz type of look. Glass hair if you will. Ty
I don't judge products by their price tag, but the most effective and reliable products I've found for long-lasting volume for my thinning hair are from Goldwell, so ... 🤷♀
Here in South Africa, all the products are super pricey. I use one called Perfect Touch, cannot find another name on the can. It is pretty good, my hair is not sticky and I use it twice a week, when I wash my hair. (Africa, dusty climate....cannot go more than 3 or 4 days without washing!) I carefully follow and use all your tips, as they really work! (Thanks) But once I brush out my hair before going to bed, it is sag city, with any product. I may have some volume the next day, but my fine but masses of hair does not want to cooperate/product is vrot. (SA word for rotten, but used locally to describe everything that is useless!) I want to know, should I employ the round brush and dryer briefly on the second and third day, to reactivate the product? I try to use minimal heat on my hair...... which is a rather fetching mix of mid brown and silver now (I am 74 tomorrow, 9 Sept) - folk ask me who my colourist is, and I say God Almighty highlights my hair! Oh, and I am still searching for the unicorn that is a stylist who listens and cuts my hair as I request...as I know what works, also for me to style it properly. My current one sees me hiding her texturizing scissors during my trim session with her, otherwise she goes apes*** with it, after drying my hair! It took me three months to grow the hair on the back of my head to a length I can easily style!!!! I pray for that unicorn to arrive in my life soon, my clock is ticking faster, I'd like to have a stylist who can carry out the task of shaping my hair as it needs to be, before I pop my clogs....
Thanks Justin for the hard work. I have thin hair and live in a high humidity climate. This combo is a nightmare. Your ‘ heads’ look like full hair so can’t really go off the tests. I tried the color wow after your last test and it did nothing for this thin haired girl unfortunately.
I’d like to know about products that help give volume to wavy hair that is air dried. If I blow dry my hair goes straight and flat. I like it’s naturally wavy texture from air drying so curious what products work well for that purpose.
Justin - With the price of hair care products constantly rising, I appreciate you reviewing less costly options. Love your channel!

That looks like the Liefen. I got one the other day based off of one of his videos. Works good.
@123kapul Great, thank you!!
Hi Justin,
You are an unbelievable teacher. Iv only watched 2 of your series and learnt a hec of a lot.
When it comes to mousse should I use strong, medium or light.
Many many thanks
Just bought WOW but the one minute styling crème. I have a long bob but I am growing out my gray white. I also like my hair very straight. We shall see
Love, love, love these videos.
Helium brand volumizer products are my favorite- have you tried any of those? They are expensive so I need to try something else☺️ thanks for these videos
If we're going to be seeing the mannequins more I feel like they need names; it's only polite.
Purple shampoo!!!
If you took the head that you used White Rain on, wash it and use the Spa Luxury on it and see if that piece still flops
Wow, I guess everyone went and bought the Spa Luxury cause it’s not available on the link 😂😂
Thanks for testing $ vs $$$, these are SO helpful!
I think I better wait till you’re done testing all though cause I’m gonna have a lot more products on my shelf 😂😂
For natural grey hair anything would be appreciated, since white/grey hair is dry...also can yellow in the sun. Thank you
I would love this slso...my natural gray/silver hair is so dry, wavy and the texture looks like cotton candy.
@@justinhickoxfor fine thin hair. What size we really need to use.
Great segment!
Yes!
I'd love for you to test Healiumhair products. Their whole purpose is supposedly designed for thin hair needing volume.
⭐️Another GREAT video!
How about Healium Hair? I like thier products.
Thanks for the video. I saw an older video of yours and I thought you clearly were against drug store products, let alone Dollar Tree ! lol. Anyway, have you tested the Loreal and Dove bond products? Are they good in your view?
Enjoyed this video!!
You should take all the heads for a ride in the car with the windows down. Can you imagine the looks you’d get?😂
😆
😮😂😂😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
And I was already picturing his neighbor looking in his livingroom window from across the street, and seeing him run his fingers through all the mannequin head's hair every hour! 😂
I am a Dove hair products girl.
Plus i use goat's milk shampoo bars!
How does all that seem to work for you?
It works well! I love Dove ! The gloss and shine is just like a product from Kenra and lots cheaper 😊
I have black jet hair, I use Chi shampoo and conditioner. I love chi products. Can you send me a link to your Chi products video? Thanks 😊
I would love for you to do this on gel… like not your mother’s, innersence, etc
What is the best hair oil?
Can you test Living Proof full thickening cream.
Justin- would you test purple shampoo for gray/white hair. It is hard to find one that helps prevent yellowing. Thanks
Can you do a video for the opposite? It’s odd I k ow but I’m looking for hair products to give me a stick straight, no frizz type of look. Glass hair if you will. Ty
Que maravilha ter esse conteúdo e em português, muito obrigada
Help! What is the best shampoo and conditioner for very fine colour treated hair ?
Watching your stream a bit late - and my Aussie runs to the tv and tilts her head every time you squeak for Taz! 😂
I just tried the Sexy volume mousse. Hard to get the brush though. The same with Kendra. Is it possible putting to much product.
What do you think of Oribe products?
Thanks Justin for the hard work. I have thin hair and live in a high humidity climate. This combo is a nightmare. Your ‘ heads’ look like full hair so can’t really go off the tests. I tried the color wow after your last test and it did nothing for this thin haired girl unfortunately.
I’d like to know about products that help give volume to wavy hair that is air dried. If I blow dry my hair goes straight and flat. I like it’s naturally wavy texture from air drying so curious what products work well for that purpose.
So when do you update product list and how do you let us know
