  • Here are some recent upgrades at the intersection of Pictou Rd and Vimy Rd in Bible Hill.
In this video, I show how the phasing looks and what the controller program is actually doing to bring up the exclusive pedestrian phase and its carryover.
There is also a leading left arrow which only activates during certain times of day, like PM peaks.
The phase 2 and 6 pedestrian phases are also concurrent with their respective vehicle phases.
The phase 4 pedestrian phase will activate if the button is pushed. It will be served after the vehicle phase so my carryover works correctly.
If there is no phase 4 vehicle call, the pedestrian phase will be brought up right away.
Phase 4 pedestrian actually calls phase 9 and only has a minimum green time of 1 second and a phase 10 carryover. The phase 10 carryover also includes ped phase 2 and 6. Phases 4 (both sides) and phase 2 will terminate together and phase 6 ped will stay on walk until phase 6 vehicle is served for its minimum green time.
There is some logic that drives this as well but most of these features are in the basic timing plan and overlap menus. I did have to make phases 9, 10 and 11 (ped phases 2, 4 and 6 respectively) compatible with each other but not the vehicle phases. This TS1 cabinet is wired like a TS2 for the peds because it does monitor the walk and don’t walk phases independently.

Yup! When you run it in graphics mode, it’s fully touch screen!

Why wouldn’t it just be an exclusive phase for all crossings?

The roads here are narrow enough that we can also run phase 2 and 6 concurrently without any issues. The biggest issue was traffic turning left and right on the side streets. The EPP will at least move pedestrians across 2 corners without any delay and without any vehicle conflicts. If someone is only crossing on the main drag in one direction, there is less of a delay for them since ped recycle is enabled here.

10:10 Out of curiosity, why are the main road ped phases delayed after the side street ped phase comes on for the all-way crossing?

They’re technically 2 different phases but I ran it this way just in case someone runs the red light. It holds the adjacent crosswalk a little longer for safety reasons!

He was confused lol. This arrow is brand new but a red is a red. Like just wait for the green haha!
