When I first started watching the Gypsy weddings, I couldn't understand when they said that many businesses wouldn't work with the Gypsies, and wouldn't rent venues to them. I fully understand it now.

@@mrkalnbr0134 True, every group is different. It's a Confirmation Bias thing with Gaje (Country People) like the Full Moon Thing:
Since there aren't many Gypsies, whenever they cause trouble, THAT'S what people remember. Whereas when Country People cause trouble, it's less noticeable because there have been more Country People, and therefore it's a bigger sample size.
Full Moon Thing: Lots of emergency workers believe people get craziest during full moons because they NOTICE people's craziness when there's a full moon. However, when you examine the statistics, there's no correlation.
I'm part Romany Gypsy but only on one side of my biological family; so I've seen good people and horrible people amongst both Gypsies and Gaje. There's good and bad in every demographic.

Being trained in that workplace is a privilege. If she can't pull herself together, she doesn't deserve to be there. Lord knows how many others she's bullied for the last 10 years. This was so interesting. I have frequently heard that many travelers leave formal education, but I had no idea that their day-to-day knowledge, of things like telling time, knowing capital letters and being able to sit and focus on a task would have been effected. This really opened my eyes to what not being educated actually means in terms of a living reality... A lot of it as well seems like a lack of discipline, because the attitudes on these girls feels very unappreciative, when they are given such an amazing gift.

I know "tradition" and "culture" and all that stuff is (supposed to be) valid but I really feel like the parents of these girls are genuinely doing them a disservice. It's not just pulling them out of school and training them to do nothing but basically be their father's daughter until they become their husband's wife. It's like they're purposely making SURE that these girls can't function outside of their community, to the point that no one outside of the community will give them a chance. I've seen in other videos how young male Travelers act too. They may have more freedom than the girls but they still lack certain social graces and self discipline. Using their cultural background as justification is no excuse.

Many families have multiple caravans and chalets. Mum is usually cleaning and doing the washing in another unit. Mum also does all of the shopping and bill paying - they operate in person on a cash only basis so it can be a lengthy process. They will give the girls their own caravan a lot of the time if they are stationary and she will be responsible for cleaning and cooking for herself and younger siblings that may live in the caravan with her. I was wondering as well if Great Britain/Scotland/Ireland doesn't make it mandatory that children attend school And if you choose to home school them that they need to register and be tested.
Why would any culture not want to be educated in the basics. Reading, writing and math are everyday skills that everybody needs. When their husbands are arrested or dead how are they suppose to successfully survive? And if they all live in campgrounds why don't they have an on site school where they teach the basics? Like a one room schoolhouse back in the old days of the wild west?
Where are the mother's? They said they need the oldest to watch the youngest. They also said the mother's primary job is to raise the kids. Isn't raising your children include educating them? Even if it's home schooling?
I just don't get how a country doesn't make it mandatory to finish school. They are citizens of that country are they not? And why don't they have to pay taxes? And don't you learn how to write, read and tell time by the time you are 11 years old? I am so confused.

It doesn't make sense that UK doesn't have standard, I was thinking that maybe as they are living nomadic lifestyle that these kids aren't registered in any type of system that would alert authorities that they weren't attending school. I'm also shocked at the way they behave, you don't allow them to get an education but you allow them to act violent and like bullies it's scary to think this exists in today's world. They're so concerned about caking on a tonne of makeup and wearing trashy and revealing ugly clothes, it's quite sad and I cannot believe that these young women don't know what a capital letter is or how to tell the time. Good grief. It's abuse to not let your child be educated at least to a very basic level. Unbelievable.

Thelma is an amazing woman. She is trying her absolute best. The problems arising are a product of the norm from the Gypsy community. They don’t know any better, it’s really not their fault. The way the girls dispute and “solve” their problems and even the way they face difficulties is all they know, they have not been taught any different. Thelma, lay down the law! Even if you end up with 3 girls in the end. Help those who want to be helped. I already see a few diamonds in the rough, focus on those who want to learn. I understand that the cultural differences are immense, but at one point the girls need to make a choice to adapt or keep their ways. Shape up or ship out! ❤️

Okay so basically Thelma didn't make a week by week plan, what to teach, who will do what, assign mentors to 3-5 of them at a time, manage expectations because thelma seems to KNOW all these differences since she's all about 'they aren't country folks'. And OBVIOUSLY enforce house rules + give everyone rest breaks as you would always do when you're learning something new - pauline, leanne included
ALso Vicky should have been fired for antagonising and breaking house rules. What she does outside of the shop is none of thelmas business

She hired tutors and a sewing teacher.....She taught decorating, busts, skirts, etc in order. It was many of the teens' entitled, childish, paranoid, Narcissistic, hypocritical behavior that held them back. Saying actual DEATH THREATS! No wonder so many of them don't live long and are in prison. It's SAD. I'm happy for the young ladies who respected Thelma. YOU put YOUR life, business, life savings, reputation on the line....THEN critique Thelma.

@@dahliarose8466 it's a real critique. Being an educator and working with at risk youth takes a shit ton of planning, education and support. The girls need accountability, standards, and clear communication. This is a lot harder than you think. Having group guidelines ans giving them new models to communicate when issues come up would be a good start and a clear understanding of what happens if you fight. There is nothing on the line for them. She could have hired a consultant for this ( paid for by thr show) but this way is more dramatic.

@@racheld3035 They portrayed the show with drama to entice viewers. I saw each young lady as an individual and took into account their backgrounds. This was a very arduous task. I do not feel as though these ladies were "tricked" or portrayed badly. It showed the raw truth and that is what people want to see. Bridget didn't need to leave for fear of being judged. She is her own person. These young women need to individualalize themselves and stop grouping themselves together. They need to learn self-soothing/self-control methods. Thelma isn't Jesus Christ. She tried to counsel them, but she can't do everything. P.S. I saw A LOT of Complex PTSD symptoms of the girls on the show. Self-sabotaging is a toxic form of dealing with that disorder.

    1. Thelma is a wonderful woman for sacrificing her own energy and money to help these girls. She is trying to break a cycle and provide opportunity. She is amazing. I feel bad how drained she gets. She doesnt deserve all the complaints from her staff or the girls when she is selflessly doing this and still being a mom.
    2. That tutor is awesome too. She dealt with the harsh words and issues the girls had. I am amazed she stuck it out.
    3. SHAME ON THAT SCHOOL for not helping at all. Their job is education and if they are not willing to help when the girls are actually able to recieve it because of their upbringing then they should not be getting funding to begin with. They take in kids that excel in hard times, they should take in kids that WANT to excel but never had the opportunity to due to their parents taking them out of school altogether.
    4. These girls ages are showing. They are children, over 18 or not. I hope that they can learn from this and gain some composure. If they cleaned up their language, participated properly and stop all the drama they would be remarkable young ladies.

I'd be so ticked off if I was Thelma. After all she has done for these girls and they have no respect at all. I understand that these girls are Gypsy's. They are basically raising themselves at the age of 11 years old and their siblings with no supervision or guidance. I think the Gypsy Mother's need to rethink the OLD WAYS and come to reality that they need to educate their daughters and let them have a better quality of life. To become responsible , productive citizens !! Just utter chaos and disfunction at every turn ! Welcome aboard the crazy train !!
