Love this iron. Wish tips were cheaper, but I get why they are with the RCA style jack and housing. Makes it longer lasting and allows it to heat quickly and more efficiently since it's only running at 12w. I made my own little kickstand with a cable clamp that works great, but it really doesn't need it like you mentioned.

Yeah this thing puts out waaaay more heat than I was expecting. About 200F more. Impressive but also dangerous in the wrong hands, like mine. 😅

@@DevonsWorkshop Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by the heat. Feels like the equivalent of about a 45w corded iron. Plenty hot for most jobs and I hear it gets even hotter with the 4mm chisel tip if needed.

Would love to see a halo ring mod. Let me know if you ever do it!

It’s definitely on my long term to do list but I’m still new to 3D printing and that kind of mod will require a high temp material like PETG or Nylon. The electronic mod itself is definitely within my skill set. The harder part will be figuring out proper clearances for PETG since that’s the highest temp stuff I have to work with. If/when I do tackle this project it’ll be in PETG.

The flux that is given in the package is not good at all. Try with another soldering alloy and you will see that it will make much better contact. I think that the soldering alloy that they gave in the package contains aluminum, it is crap.

I never used the supplied solder. I have a 1lb spool of .031 60/40 Kester.

    1. your soldering skill need a lot of work. 2. you are comparing this to a soldering station? c'mon..

Blaming the user instead of a design flaw never goes well.
