- Rare footage of Simple Minds on Australian television program "Coundown" in October 1982. This is the "Humdrum" music interview segmant of the broadcast. The program's talent co-ordinator Ian "Molly" Meldrum began appearing on-air in 1975, presenting the Humdrum music news segment and conducting interviews. He soon became the face of Countdown. He appeared regularly on-air until 1986. Please note: Some of this footage is weak due to its age etc. I have muted or blanked the screen were necessary for uploading. No footage was removed. Most of it is ok!
It's always great to see a music presenter that is actually enthused by his subject. It's pretty rare.
Thanks from France !
Hard to understand everything but I'm hanging on ! :/
@IngoDE Thanks Ingo! Sadly, I think the begining is missing. The giveaway is when they mention Rolf Harris! (never thought I'd say that about a Simple Minds video!!!!).
Really interesting, thank you for posting.. Wish you kept Yazoo on there.. Ah well.
gold , the interference makes it seem like I'm back in 82 , love t thanks .
Wow! Thanks Mike! I never knew Charlie damaged his arm. I wonder whats happened. Your words seem to be written with great affection. I'm glad you enjoyed the gig as much as you did. Nice to hear that "This fear" & "Celebrate" was in the set list. Many many thanks, Mike!
@shum65 Cheers Shum! Someone contacted me a few weeks ago about the "Grangemouth 1979" gig. He was in the audience.....along with the other 29 audience members!!! Only 30 people were there that night! Good to hear from you again.
Well..... Rage replays Countdown episodes every January, so at some point in the future, this episode has got to get a replay and some 'Countdown' revival fan is bound to put it up on yt
Wow gr8 find tony, thanks for sharing mate.
Rolf Harris is going to do a family Christmas show? Yikes!
that host was unsettling and weirding me out and jim kerr wantd it to end obviously
haha Molly Meldrum is music royalty, anyone who was anyone in the 70/80s was interviewed by him - he is actually hugely knowledgeable about music . I think bands liked the laid back DIY vibe of Australian shows back then.
Its great footage! I wonder if there are any other "lost" interviews etc from the early 80's in Austrailia (or New Zealand). Cheers Mike!
Great stuff!
Thanks Tony!
Nice one.
What a gem!
Jim is so relaxed. Just like Morrissey in the beginning.
Interesting to hear the bands views on the music scene back then, plus the rare sight of Mike Ogletree with the band!
@YCSMusic Cheers Steve! "They are all packaged and ready" lol!
@zoomer1979 I agree. I've sent it to Mike Ogletree ("Blaxcot") too to let him know he his in this one.
@baldmindsfan Thanks. It get harder to find new ones....Then this one shows up!
@tattysnr Cheers Neil! Some interesting early 80's bands also mentioned. Some not so interesting too! lol!
@Dexbam Cheers D! And also the piece of cheese/pyramid at the end of the video.
Brilliant to see that line up. The presenter was a proper outback tool. Jim was cringing to death. Shame the quality is so poor. Are these things lost forever? Hopefully there is a better version still out there.
I always loved JK's accent,lol! Thanks!!
I need to sort the tracking out on my laptop. There's a whole generation won't get that joke.
@Ninette31 No worries. I struggle with English! lol!
@SteveMB1959 You were quicker than me, Steve!
what is he saying at 6:24????
Glitteringla 24 Charlie says "I don't love you". Then Mick says "you don't love me". They are discussing the song Da Da Da by Trio - translating some of the lyrics from its original German.
Needs aluminum foil on the antennae methinks.......XD
He doesnt like Iron Maiden.. Ha!
I LUV J.K on this one
Really rubbish.
No - not fantastic. Crap crap crap. The end.
