    we did the same with base of our pots but put weed mat or textile fabric (from bunnings) on top of pots & gravel to keep soil separate.

    Very Cool idea!
    Another lady uses plastic water bottles to fill in the space. 👍😁
    That's great! I've never thought of using strofoam implant dishes to fill in the space😉

    I enjoyed your video and tips for planting. Could you please share what is that beautiful bush behind you with the purple flowers?

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  6 років тому +1

      Hi Melissa, thank you for your comment. That bush with the purple flowers is a Tibouchina. They are native to the mexico/South America region and in the right climate are very easy to grow.
      I hope this helps 😄

    I use styrofoam for this. Lightweight and works like perlite

    An idea just came to my mind: You may consider separating the gravel / pebbles and the potting soil with a sheet of landscape fabric.

      That is a good idea Marc. It would certainly stop and soil from working its way down through the pebbles. Thank you.

    I'm new to gardening; what is the purpose to using mulch on top?

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  5 років тому +2

      Welcome to gardening. I hope it will give you a lifetime of pleasure.
      Mulch has multiple purposes. Some of these include - reducing water loss by evaporation, minimising the growth of weeds and also purely aesthetic purposes. For me, the most important is the reduction of water loss.
      I hope this is helpful, and happy gardening :)

    What is the plant in the pot in the begining?

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  3 роки тому

      It is a very happy and healthy Peace Lily. You will find some general information about them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spathiphyllum

    I have a glazed pot with no drainage. I think I may have almost killed mine by over watering. Can I still save it?

    • @iCultivate1
      @iCultivate1  6 років тому

      Unfortunately overwatering can result in killing the roots. Once they are gone, there is no saving the plant.
      Having said that, re-pot the plant in fresh soil - maybe it’s not as bad as you think 🤔
