As a 17 year logic user who has Ableton 12 sitting on my computer.. you have definitely have me ready to pivot. It’s funny because No I.D told me to switch way back in 2010. Breaking them comfort zones are tough. lol
Aye another LP Vet!!! I know exactly how you feel fr fr lol!!! It only took one month of me fooling around with Ableton and I threw away all of years in Logic lol!! Changed everything
Don’t understand how people don’t like session view, it’s the reason I started using live all the way back at version 4, for the first time after struggling with cubase and sonar I found a workflow that allowed creative freedom to build entire tracks and remix from a single idea.
Coming from Logic or FL or really any DAW lol, it can look confusing and intimidating at first. Most traditional producers prefer arrangement view because it's linear. Either way, both session and arrangement view are amazing tools.
Yeah . Most of my project are Session View based . And just like you , that the main reason why I`ve ever using ableton in the first place ( version 4 ) . Coming ( and still be in ) many live bands, makes me prefer doing jam session when creating music than spending hours clicking and surgery editing and automations . And Session View give me that feeling . The bonus part is , I have base setup for live performance already done ( at least more than 50%) with it .
0:20 like I commented before session view is the only way I can make music. I try to work in linear view. It’s like I feel limited in my sketches and ideas I can get out because it’s only like one lane and that session view I have as many clips as I want, have different versions and remix how I want, the works
2 things.....I rock with Yaahn....still going to go straight to arrangement view, with dark mode on.😂. Love the content, keep bringing it. I think that Session view is better for Live performance and triggering. I think in this context, if you have a push or some type of surface that incorporates the functions it works better and quicker. For making a beat, I think it is preference, but love the versatility because people work differently. I prefer to just start in arrangement and make my 4 bar, 8 bar, etc. and then drag the copies to different regions or just duplicate a whole bunch in go in and delete the extras where you don't want them. It really does come down to workflow, because I tend to work on the old school MPC's the same way. Make a loop, copy it to multiple bars, and then program track mutes. I do this instead of just using Song mode. I have made tracks in Ableton using the programming function in session view and programmed when I wanted certain clips to come in and out, be muted, etc. Pretty much the same end result as using a linear arrangement view and doing it, but a different workflow.
