You are not helping. Make it a human vs animal issue and demonize the humans who show no active malice (poaching) and you will lose these animals. The only solution is to find a way for both man and animals to learn to live with each other not against.
What on earth are you two talking about?! Either you didn't understand the video, or didn't understand my comment. Morgan, how are the farmers feeding the cranes causing their disappearance? And Asher, who is demonizing whom? What are you talking about?
I was responding to Morgan he’s clearly trying to say humans expanding farmland to feed both their families and the population at large is responsible for the cranes decline in number and therefor they should only be called evil even when they are clearly trying to co habit with them. I was criticizing his stance as unhelpful as it will ultimately be the work of the local population that saves this bird and other endangered species unless we want to launch a full on police state style military operation to beat down the locals into submission or expel them out right
What graceful, beautiful creatures.... almost cried at how breathtaking they are, and how the farmers go out of their way to save these godly creatures. Bless them for their kind hearts.
@morganolfursson2560 Very simplistic. There are more Red Crowned Cranes living outside of Japan than within Japan. Those living outside breed in Siberia, Northern China, and adjacent areas of Russia. They migrate to both Koreas and east central China for the winter. The bird's shown here are resident in Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido. Cranes subsist on fishes, amphibians, baby waterbirds, rodents, and insects as well as a wide range of plant tubers and seeds. None of these are available during most of the winter in Hokkaido, when the soil and water are usually frozen solid. By feeding them, the farmers have enabled these cranes to survive winters that they would be very hard pressed to survive otherwise. Cranes are traditional symbols of happiness, martial fidelity, and longevity throughout East Asia and in Buddhist and Hindu societies in SE and South Asia. The farmers in Hokkaido enable these cranes to survive the winter for these traditional reasons, even though the birds damage their crops during the growing season. Yes, by replacing wetlands with farmland, the farmers have drastically reduced potential breeding habitat for cranes and many other species of wildlife, but they have compensated for this even when it is against their economic interests to do so. American ranchers saved the American Bison by taking the last surviving herds under their protection after unrestrained mass slaughter that was aimed at starting the Plains Tribes into submission. Vegans should consider that ALL forms of agriculture that feed them destroy natural ecosystems and their inhabitants, and free range poultry and organic fertilizers also spread diseases of domestic animals to wildlife.
Just got Gladys with her big "red crown" to move in on my island on Animal Crossing and it prompted me to know more about them! Such elegant birds, they are. I hope they don't end up like the Dodos!
I was just listening to Naoko song about bird. It was this back ground that they show that captivate my breath which is the snow and snowy white black crowned crane. I was then asking myself are they real and where do they exist on on earth? Oh my gosh...they are real and mesmering in Hokkaido.
MinecraftNow they are not helping - they are creating an illusion that birds don't need wetlands, that farming is harmless to wildlife, solely for private profit
This might be irrelevant comparison, but this bird really remind me of Marco the Phoenix from One Piece, also Phoenix from very old ps1 game Brigandine (both phoenix looks almost identical with this bird).
Throughout history, birds have been viewed as animals of special value and have been ladened with meanings often derived from legends and stories that have survived over many generations. The Crane, existing in fifteen species which inhabit five continents, may conceivably be the oldest bird on earth; there is fossil proof that they existed over 60 million years ago. Greek and Roman myth tended to portray the dance of cranes as a love of joy and a celebration of life. The crane was usually considered to be a bird of Apollo, the sun god, who heralded in Spring and light.
There are fifteen species of crane in the world, six species in Africa. The Ethiopian Highlands have three of the species, and one of them inspired the Phoenix. Euripides speaks of Cepheus, king of Ethiopia, a son of Phoenix. The bird, the constellation of the same name and the human figures that personified them tell a fascinating tale, but it is not known outside of the region.
Yo are these the same birds that the crane lady came from? Some story about a dude saving one of these birbs and it comes back to him as a cute girl, they hang out get married, she starts making clothes and she runs away after he discovers her identity?
You wouldn't see this in United States they would just let them go extinct. Those Farmers know how rare and intelligent those birds are. Thank you for caring.
Nigga look up the whooping crane and say that again Americans have had one of the best records in saving endangered species from the bald eagle, the black foot ferret, the American alligator, and the bison just to name a few.
There's a reason they almost went extinct and there's a reason there are still so few of them in the wild. It's not like all Japanese people care so much for conservation efforts and protecting wildlife. These few farmers happen to be an exception, thankfully.
This is not about the red crowned cranes (because it's now legally protected from hunting in Japan). Some people want to protect beautiful creatures. Some people, on the other hand, want to hunt them down. I don't understand why.
why are footage of grus japonensis always in winter with snow? I mean it's a beautiful and perfect setting that suits their elegant black and white bodies but...it's rare to find videos of them online in the summer...do they migrate somewhere far?
Would this mean these birds will be a species reliant mostly on human handouts? Will they learn to become completely self reliant again or will handouts change their eating habits completely?
Their behavior may adapt to expecting handouts, at least at that particular location in the video. We had a group of Canada Goose hang around in California for a few seasons instead of migrating when they normally would because of the change in climate. Part of my theory is that they had a much easier time just hanging around, easily eating the food people gave them. The need to look for food for themselves became scarce.
I think they want their land back. Corn isn't their natural food. Yeah at least the farmers feed them.... only because their government requires them to do so. Poor cranes. #LandBack
Not really. It's quite popular among Chinese since ancient times. We can found it was painting in Chinese ancient painting rolls. Just when westerners firstly saw the cranes in Japan they named the crane Japanese crane. Dumb
The Red Crowned Cranes are migratory birds that spread in north eastern Asia (China, Koreas, Japan, and far eastern Russia. Occasionally in Mongolia and Taiwan, too.) Apparently, there is one small group of resident cranes that stay in Hokkaido, Japan.

How to donate to these farmers
they make enough money on stealing the wetlands from those birds
MinecraftNow they are not helping - they are creating an illusion that birds don't need wetlands, that farming is harmless to wildlife, solely for private profit
MinecraftNow because if the birds will die - the government will take away their land and give back to wildlife.
MinecraftNow why should they exactly?
you asking stupid questions
thank you kind sir. ☺☺☺☺
Beautiful birds!
So beautiful
Red crowned cranes can be found in JAPAN🇯🇵
I wonder if the Mythical Phoenix actually inspired by this Magnificent creature 😱 😱

You're right. The farmers in America shoot wolves, another struggling species. There's no way they would care lmao.

And some people don't care enough to make environmentally conscious decisions in all aspects of their life.

We need those cranes to say Fairy tales to our grand children's, we bow before those farmers in respect.

Would this mean these birds will be a species reliant mostly on human handouts? Will they learn to become completely self reliant again or will handouts change their eating habits completely?
I'm not sure. The narrator mentioned that they feed the cranes in the winter so they probably fend for themselves during the other seasons.
Such beautiful birds, I hope we can do more!
