Those guys were stone cold killers back in the day. The game was so much more exciting in the 80's and the players would just beat the hell out of each other in full war mode.
Larry Joe Legend is timeless. He spoke on modern game rules, in interview, about what's gone wrong with the modern game. He cooked Rodman on a rotisserie.
I LOVE how this era, Bird, Jordan took shit personally. Then they use that personal offense to get psychotic about it. I wish that was still in the NBA, or maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I wish I was.
I've read the Larry Bird Biography, it's sad, Larry grew up really poor. When he was 14 he'd go to the Community Center and play basketball with the Black 18 yo waiters. His dad committed suicide so the family would get money.
Brooooo... so many great players! I'm in my late 30s and I WISH I could go back and watch these games live! It was so exciting back then! Once in a while I get excited watching a game, but it's simply not the same. Every one of them are greats ❤
Bird playing real Basketball against the players of today. No question he will be the best. He can shoot , defend , pass , rebound , mentally f them up.
I was blessed to have been able to watch Bird play live a few times. I was an NYC Knicks fan, but anytime Larry came to town, I would try to figure out a way to get myself tickets. From the minute he stepped on the court, you knew some thing special was going to happen, and it always did. You’re right it was a very different game back in the 80s. Sometimes the players got rough, and the refs let them play. I can’t really watch NBA today because it’s like playing pattycake… There’s no toughness to it, I don’t see the crazy desire to win like they had in the 80s. Nobody’s hanging around, fighting for rebounds, so yeah, I’d rather watch college basketball now. Anyway, in my opinion, Larry Bird is the GOAT. (BTW, I can’t watch when he bangs his face on the floor either… I cringe every time.)
In todays game Larry would have the green light to pull the trigger on the three point shot. In his era, you only shot the three if you were far behind or caught behind the line as the shot clock was running out.
Celtics year before Bird, 29 wins. Celtics with the only addition of rookie Bird, 61 wins. Then add in that Bird beat every superstar of his era. He was the only one to do that. Case closed.
Larry was like that. 'Ima bake you bake you a cake. Ok? I'm gonna catch it on the paint, step over to the post, add eggs, and add the frosting with a dunk. Will that make your birthday son?'
Normally I’d agree and probably go higher, but he was so unselfish I’m not sure. He definitely would have if he didn’t have the team mentality that he did.
Faster than Luka, smarter than jokic, shoots like Curry, rebounds and hustles like rodman, better defender than all the players mentioned other than rodman. Probably the greatest player to move without the ball, chess player out there. Wide open lane today, fingernail fouls today, tons of 3s attempted today. Bird x5 MVP with chips to go with them.
Don't think that '80's Bird coming into today's era! Think Bird in this era, but with today's health & fitness regime. Bird today would be in the gym training with a conditioning coach. He'd have a personal dietitian. Bird in today's game would be Luka × 3. He'd be DEADLY shooting 3's. Passing would be box office. He'd still be talking too
Larry was much more than a guy who knew how to play. Bird would dominate today because he dominated at every level. To show how dominant Bird was, he went to a 29 win team and with a new coach and 1 player change to the roster ( ML Carr) Bird was the biggest reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turnaround, the biggest single season turnaround in NBA history. Bird won ROY by a big margin over Magic and as a rookie Bird placed 4th in MVP voting. For the next 8 years here is how Bird placed in the MVP race = 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and then 2nd again. That 9 year run is as dominant as it gets. Also for those 9 years in games Bird played in Boston won 534 games and lost 177 of the 711 games for a win % of 75.1% and this was in the stronger Eastern conference. Also remember Bird created the 50-40-90 club = did it 2 years in a row (87 and 88) and just missed in 85 and 86 AND if you total his stats for those 4 years = Bird actually averaged 50-40-90 for 4 years straight = who else has ever done that?? Only Bird!

Larry Bird would be taking free throw after free throw if the rules of yesterday were still in effect today as far as trash talking. He would have 30+ points just off of free throws because of his opponents fouling him for putting them in their place. Think about it. Larry trash talks that he was going to someone nowadays left handed, they would foul him off the start. After proving he could do it they would have fouled the shit out of him.
How many greats could shoot with both hands tell you where he was going to shoot the ball and back it up and play at a elite level with a bad back. Players now a day get a hang nail sits out . He would dominate in todays game.
the shot they showed when Dee brown was talking happened when he was a kid, they shot he was actually talking about happened at the end of hi s career, shortest 3 pointer in history
Today’s game Bird would average between 30 and 35 a game. Rebounds wouldn’t change much. About 10 a game. You are correct about assists. Assist are easier to come by. Right at 10 a game.
Larry Bird was amazing in his time. Today where you can’t touch anyone with his style of play knowing where everyone’s at at all times being an amazing passer and an amazing shot. 🤦♂️ there’d have to be a new term made there’d be Him the MVP for the year then everyone else.
