Almost everyone that has played since Bird has used some of his game, it's been passed down through MJ and others. Bird would trash today's players it would be a slaughter.
The fact Larry was an absolute warrior is why those of us who have him as the GOAT don't care he only played 13 seasons. He played the game lights out every play until his body broke and still came back to play one last time with Magic in the Olympics. The greats never talk trash on Bird outside of a game for a reason, the respect is off the charts.

I was blessed to have been able to watch Bird play live a few times. I was an NYC Knicks fan, but anytime Larry came to town, I would try to figure out a way to get myself tickets. From the minute he stepped on the court, you knew some thing special was going to happen, and it always did. You’re right it was a very different game back in the 80s. Sometimes the players got rough, and the refs let them play. I can’t really watch NBA today because it’s like playing pattycake… There’s no toughness to it, I don’t see the crazy desire to win like they had in the 80s. Nobody’s hanging around, fighting for rebounds, so yeah, I’d rather watch college basketball now. Anyway, in my opinion, Larry Bird is the GOAT. (BTW, I can’t watch when he bangs his face on the floor either… I cringe every time.)

Larry was much more than a guy who knew how to play. Bird would dominate today because he dominated at every level. To show how dominant Bird was, he went to a 29 win team and with a new coach and 1 player change to the roster ( ML Carr) Bird was the biggest reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turnaround, the biggest single season turnaround in NBA history. Bird won ROY by a big margin over Magic and as a rookie Bird placed 4th in MVP voting. For the next 8 years here is how Bird placed in the MVP race = 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and then 2nd again. That 9 year run is as dominant as it gets. Also for those 9 years in games Bird played in Boston won 534 games and lost 177 of the 711 games for a win % of 75.1% and this was in the stronger Eastern conference. Also remember Bird created the 50-40-90 club = did it 2 years in a row (87 and 88) and just missed in 85 and 86 AND if you total his stats for those 4 years = Bird actually averaged 50-40-90 for 4 years straight = who else has ever done that?? Only Bird!

Larry Bird would be taking free throw after free throw if the rules of yesterday were still in effect today as far as trash talking. He would have 30+ points just off of free throws because of his opponents fouling him for putting them in their place. Think about it. Larry trash talks that he was going to someone nowadays left handed, they would foul him off the start. After proving he could do it they would have fouled the shit out of him.

Larry said "it doesn't matter if I scored, as long as we got the basket"
I think with the athleticism today, his "team" would be regularly scoring above and beyond the 80's. Like around 150.

Joe dumars broke it down so everybody can understand about Larry I remember being a kid and watching him against my Chicago bulls and wondering why is he not taking more shots. He was the most selfish Superstar I ever saw play. He could have easily average 40 points if you took more shots. I remember he had 34 points and three quarters against the bulls and literally checked himself out because they were up by 20. And I know he's done that on multiple occasions

Yeah, Larry would be that guy. He would cook Bron, KD and any other sf you put on him.
