I agree also. Love the channel and content but I don’t like the background music either. As an older guy I find it hard to filter it out so I can focus on what he’s saying.
Hi Azul, I love going for your walks but please remove the music from your videos. You are a very clear speaker and I like to absorb all that you say without the distraction.
One thing that I'd add to do - cultivate senior friends. Those older that have been through it. Sometimes you need a hand and sometimes you can lend a hand. It can be a drive to the hospital or to the airport or helping to move furniture.
Hey Azul - love your videos but do agree with the comments concerning recent over production and adding music. Very distracting and unnecessary given that your videos were already great without those things. You’re awesome and please keep the good info flowing! ❤
4:10 42-1/2 years ago my mother and father dropped me off in Terre Haute, IN at Indiana State. After moving everything up into my dorm room they said goodbye. This is the only time that I can remember that my father cried. This was definitely a milestone moment in all of our lives.
This was a great one, thank you. I just retired last week at the age of 62. I am definitely in the Loss stage, and I feel that way. I am sad about it and slightly confused. At work, I was a subject matter expert, admired and a key resource for the organization. Now, I am feeling a bit useless and unimportant. I will find my way out of this funk, but I was not expecting to feel this way.
I spent a bit more last year. I splashed out on a Hair Transplant, money really well spent and being retired gave me plenty of time to recover now my hair is better now than my 20s !!
I think this would be a great topic for a video it certainly peaked my interest when you mentioned it here! Talk about the reasons why people end up spending more or less than they planned when they actually retired 🙏😊😍
Health is probably the most important. As I am now the same age as my father was when he died that fact will keep running through my mind for the rest of the year but of course my health situation and his is very different.
Azul, love that you talk about all things retirement but why don't you ever talk about investment fees? People in the know, understand that fees are a huge drag on returns and can be devastating to a retirement. Why not discuss that? Seems you've covered literally everything other than fees. Hoping this is something you cover.
Thank you. I held 2 S.E.C. licenses from 2000-2005 before I changed careers. I felt I never needed financial advice, since people always came to me. Im due to retire year end & turns out I really needed this channel more than I thought. You give retirement advice beyond financial retirement advice. 🙌🏾
I already have phase two and three down. I'm going to continue writing books, where I don't/didn't have enough time to do when working an eleven hour day full time job. I'm pretty excited about that. I already have three books under my belt and currently have ideas for another ten stories, plus the one I've been working on now for several years. By the way, I plan on retiring at fifty five.
I am a realtor. I probably will do a few deals referrals only, and if I don’t want to I will refer out. I am ready! We are starting to really travel, bike tour in Portugal and Alaska cruise and Denali My brother in law saved so much , passed at 63, didn’t get to really enjoy all his work. He told us to start traveling and have fun. He had no family or kids, just work. Very sad. Go out and enjoy people!
Azul, thank you! I've been struggling lately with loss. It's challenging. I try to focus on what cool things I can do now and yet just knowing that it's common and similar to other life events is quite helpful. Thanks man! Keep up the good work!
This my 3rd of my early retirement and this very true and to add on that you have to be very careful on friends because some may love you because of what you have eg money
Another good video. Regarding the phases in retirement i have found that retiring abroad, learning the language, culture, making new friends etc, continually challenges me and rewards me. It definitely makes it obvious that this is a new stage in life. Sometimes drives my type A personality a little bonkers, but is has been and is a rewarding journey
I do love your channel. But I agree with the other viewers that the music is distracting and are you walking in place with a fake background? I’m really not sure anymore about the editing gimmicks :)
Thank you Azul, for making these videos. I have just entered phase one but found the advice about the likely phases ahead really valuable. Keep up the great work!
Great video -4 months in I feel like I'm in phases 1, 2 and 3 on alternate days but no desire to go back to my old career (edited to add my vote to cutting out the weird music 😅 - silence is fine)
I just discovered your channel and feel that I have been watching you for a long time. Your presentations are an eye opener, well presented and you tell it "Like it is". From my observations, I suspect that many people (Regardless of age) may not be on the right track, yet many are. It is a mixed bag.
1) Unrealized work pressure removed; anxiety about job security, workload, work schedule - all gone. 2) Didn't spend as much as initially assumed. 3) Retirement is a process, four phases; vacation-like, feeling of loss, trial and error to find purpose, purpose(s) found. 4) Health concerns. 5) Risk assessment about the financial portfolio. Pain of financial losses more acute. You're welcome
Great content and delivery, as always, Azul! ♡ But I really can't 'watch' the videos anymore with the distracting and unnecessary cutaway graphics. All we really need is you!
Appreciate for all you do. I’m almost sold on retirement. 😊 I have a feeling that, I’ll have to watch you 730 days, and then I’ll be thinking seriously about retiring pronto. 😅
Love your channel but every video with this piano music has me bailing part way through after I realized I zone out and lost the plot. I don't know why, but it become grating after a few mins.
This format is ok... its a lot better than the loud music, the annoying closed captioning (like the vacation bit here), and wild annimations. The bullet points for each phase is good. Honestly, showing images of the phases doesn't add much value.
Make a list of things to do each day. He probably has a video. Just a healthy balance to exercise mind, body and spirit. Then start listing all those things you wanted to do but didn’t have time. Some of those will still be things you might want to do.
I like your friendly style in these videos, i agree with what your saying, I personally don't have a financial investment interest but everything else spot on 👍
I will continue watching after my ears stop bleeding from the music. I might have to unsubscribe if it continues. I used to LOVE your show but the music is pushing me away. :( ang
I agree with everyone who is turned off by the music. None of my other podcast favorites have background music playing. Azul, you gave me optimism but the music makes me sad and I am skipping more and more videos because of it. Don't forget what made you popular.. stray too much from that and you'll inevitably have a change in viewership.
My entry into very early planned scheduled retirement should of been pleasurable but inadvertently trusting a dirty predator builder and other folk put paid to that - feeling loss is needing stronger spectacles each year is about all the concern now , partly by luck . yep protect your health folks never too late to shed a few pounds.
Thanks for the depressing video.... Perfect music paired with stage 2/ depression to decreasing health and down markets if you stay mostly stocks.. lol
The music is so distracting. I really enjoyed the older videos, no music, no stock background footage, just two+ decades of investment and retirement wisdom. Now, ….ugh.
I’m 100% SP500 with 100k cash. I retired (forced) in 2020 after the market crashed. I had 200k cash then since I was thinking about retiring but today I’m not sorry for being all in the SP500. As you get older, you should move to growth stocks. YMMV
If you skip phase one you can avoid phase two and go straight to phase three if you plan ahead before you quit work you can start with stage four. Phase one is the killer, you are getting into bad habits and burning through money.
This is more than ridiculous! Here is the VERY SIMPLE CLEAR reason you feel loss or depressed or ANY feeling of loss of direction and not having the feelings of being "relevant"! Just go watch the last 45 minutes of the Shawshank Redemption and NEVER FORGET what ONE statement that is made------- " You have become INSTITUTIONALIZED"!!! You may think this prison scene is not the same as prison life--- it IS VERY much a GREAT analogy! So MANY people do NOT know what is HITTING THEM, they REALLY have no clue what has BECOME of themselves as they have worked 30 years OR MORE! I --GUARANTEE --- thee so called "happiest people in retirement" have GONE THROUGH this DEEPLY--- they just REFUSE to SAY IT and yes--they will LIE and deny it! By far the SADEST situation that is TOTAL denial-- are the people who say---"they love their work and are not retiring"!! There are 2 Things going on in this situation! 1) They have NOT worked hard and have BEEN in a position of POWER to make everyone ELSE do what SHOULD have been --their work( we ALL know those bosses!!) and the FEAR of not having that power any more is too much for them to handle! 2)The other person who says they "love their job and are not retiring are those who DO NOT AT ALL--have a concept of how to Explore the world and things they COULD learn---- they do not know how to get outside their ZONE-- so its better to stay and not figure out how to LIVE ( really --LIVE) life without a scheduled routine that has CONTROLLED their lives! It also comes down to ANOTHER most fantastic, TOTALLY TRUE quote from the same movie Shawshank Redemption!-------"GET BUSY LIVING OR GET BUSY DYING," ITS YOUR CHOICE! An enjoyable retirement DOES NOT AT ALL mean you NEED to have tons of money to globe trot the world! You can EASILY fill you life with LOCAL and short travel places! You can TAKE THE TIME to think about a HOBBY or ANYTHING you have HONESTLY--- forgotten about, because your WHOLE life has been CONSUMED with work and WORSE--- a ROUTINE that has institutionalized your WHOLE thinking AND perception! 90% of the people in careers and jobs have TOTALLY lost the sense of controlling THEIR LIVES. This is SO BAD--- and---they WILL refuse to believe this has happened to them! The other 10% are the Managers and owners of business--- who have made SURE-- their lives ARE NOT LOST TO the DAY IN DAY OUT years of this-- they MAKE SURE ---it is YOU who have "lost control" of your life and YOU are on that "hampster wheel" -- ALL so THEY can make SURE-- they LIVE the life that you CAN'T and is at YOUR EXPENSE!
First of all I love your shows but that background music is very distracting!
It's certainly unnecessary.
I agree. I kind of just like “walking and talking” with Azul, with no additional bells and whistles.
I agree also. Love the channel and content but I don’t like the background music either. As an older guy I find it hard to filter it out so I can focus on what he’s saying.
I loved it and I usually don't.
As long as it’s low volume I don’t mind background music. I say leave it.
Hi Azul, I love going for your walks but please remove the music from your videos. You are a very clear speaker and I like to absorb all that you say without the distraction.
Happy to see you out walking again. I agree…no need for background music.
One thing that I'd add to do - cultivate senior friends. Those older that have been through it. Sometimes you need a hand and sometimes you can lend a hand. It can be a drive to the hospital or to the airport or helping to move furniture.
A body in motion stays in motion. Keep on walking around Azul.
My three favorite channels: Azul, Stock Brotha, & How Money Works. Make my week complete! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Rob Berger's channel is great too!
Retired last May at 54. No surprises for me because of planning. If you can do it early, go for it!
I like the walking and talking format my opinion only, the background music is actually distracting thank you for the content!
Sorry I can’t really focus on what you’re saying because of the music
Excellent advice. Thank you. 🙏
127 days from retirement. Hoping phase one and two lasts as long as possible. ❤
The music is very distracting.....

My father went back to work one day a week as a consultant.
I spent a bit more last year.
I splashed out on a Hair Transplant, money really well spent and being retired gave me plenty of time to recover now my hair is better now than my 20s !!
Hi Azul. Thanks for all your videos! Maybe your background music can go however. IDK.
Welcome to Portland Azul. :) I was able to see you record this one live last Saturday.
Azul, love that you talk about all things retirement but why don't you ever talk about investment fees? People in the know, understand that fees are a huge drag on returns and can be devastating to a retirement. Why not discuss that? Seems you've covered literally everything other than fees. Agree 100%, please discuss this in the future, it will be very helpful
Thank you. I held 2 S.E.C. licenses from 2000-2005 before I changed careers. I felt I never needed financial advice, since people always came to me. Im due to retire year end & turns out I really needed this channel more than I thought. You give retirement advice beyond financial retirement advice.

My wife and I retired last summer. We jumped directly into phase 2 and have been there since then.
New here! Hello Azul. Great content. The background music was ok. Idk why everyone just complains about it… comes with age I guess 😅
I follow all your videos, but please nix the background music
Everytime gold prices rise, more mines open and drive the price down. How is that limited? How is that money? Crypto is the future♻️
Thank you Azul, for making these videos. I have just entered phase one but found the advice about the likely phases ahead really valuable. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for all your videos, Azul. They are great!

Hi Azul. How do you account for real estate with the Montecarlo
I am about to retire and find your videos very helpful! Hope you are enjoying Portland.
Appreciate for all you do. I’m almost sold on retirement. 😊 I have a feeling that, I’ll have to watch you 730 days, and then I’ll be thinking seriously about retiring pronto. 😅
Volatility is just noise if your investments generate sufficient income, and/or you have sufficient cash on hand to ride it out.
Love your channel but every video with this piano music has me bailing part way through after I realized I zone out and lost the plot. I don't know why, but it become grating after a few mins.

My mother always told me, if you have money trouble, you have no trouble.
One of your best video, thank you Azul!!
Azul, I’m not clear about what it means to be a “fee only” financial advisor. How do I know if my advisor is fee only?
If your advisor pushes to manage your portfolio for you - that advisor is not like Azul. How’s that ?
I don’t retire till august, but I have had my side gig going on for two years!!
I'm ready ro take on the challenges you've laid out!!!🎉🎉🎉
Azul, those 4 phases are just like getting out of the military and transitioning to civilian life.
azul , how much should a typical fee only financial advisory cost per hour
I just retired, day 4 and I’m panicking. I feel lost. Financially I’m fine , but I feel like what just happened . lol
Congratulations 🎉
You've got this.
You can always go back to work...
Make a list of things to do each day. He probably has a video. Just a healthy balance to exercise mind, body and spirit. Then start listing all those things you wanted to do but didn’t have time. Some of those will still be things you might want to do.

Thx Azul. Another thought provoking video. You peaked my interest, what is “slow travel”? What are its considerations?
I really felt the first one
I will continue watching after my ears stop bleeding from the music. I might have to unsubscribe if it continues. I used to LOVE your show but the music is pushing me away. :( ang
Lol 😂
Stop the background music or at least reduce the volume.
You have issues!🤣🥴
I would rather hear your great voice. Sounds like morgue music.
The background music is distracting.
Yikes! Funeral music....!!!!
Real estate investors losing money is music to my ears. They are a major reason why the real estate market is the way that it is now.....
Please i need help
Thanks for the info . Found her website and it really impressive
I think the music is distracting and takes away some connection.
I agree with everyone who is turned off by the music. None of my other podcast favorites have background music playing. I retired six years ago and I still have a mortgage, a car payment, and my son starts college next year. What's he talking about?
Excellent video
20 years ! Who knew ?
Are you in Washington?
Like the music
Thanks for the depressing video.... Perfect music paired with stage 2/ depression to decreasing health and down markets if you stay mostly stocks.. lol
i prefer your walking vids without the media drops
The music is so distracting. I really enjoyed the older videos, no music, no stock background footage, just two+ decades of investment and retirement wisdom. Now, ….ugh.
Music background is annoying
I like the videos when it’s just you walking around in your blue jacket. Skip the stock videos and music
What city is he in?
Portland, OR
I’m 100% SP500 with 100k cash. I retired (forced) in 2020 after the market crashed. I had 200k cash then since I was thinking about retiring but today I’m not sorry for being all in the SP500.

Motion is lotion
The music was a nice touch!!
I thought the same thing
PIANO MUSIC IS SO PAINFUL. CANT LISTEN TO YOU WHILE THAT PIANO IS ON
If you skip phase one you can avoid phase two and go straight to phase three if you plan ahead before you quit work you can start with stage four.
Phase one is the killer, you are getting into bad habits and burning through money.
Love your channel. You should include more women in your background videos.
Background funeral music is definitely not needed.
Love this song. What’s the name?
Music in the background is annoying. Great videos BTW!
Have you ever known a real life “retirement advisor” ? Barack Obama was a professional “community organizer”.
What is this?

I'm favoured financially with Bitcoin ETFs, Thank you buddy $32,000 weekly profit regardless of how bad it gets on the economy.
Keep playing the music . Momento Mori
I retired from teaching in June. I don't have a financial advisor🫣
Regurgitating Ted Talks on 4 phases of retirement. Nothing original to see here….
Thanks!
