Great content and info here - although vegetable oils (including substandard grades of olive oil) are inflammatory to the gut (even if you don't have some form of IBD). And dairy products too are often a no-no with IBD...the protein in the dairy causes inflammation - which is not the same thing at all as being lactose intolerant...
The dairy is all virtually free of lactose. The unripe, non aged dairy and liquid milks are not allowed as they contain lactose. Many on the diet do not tolerate cow products of any kind, and in that case, Goat milks to make the 24h fermented yogurt and goat cheese are a wonderful alternative that MOST on the diet can tolerate and in fact thrive on without any adverse side effects whatsoever.
I'm glad people are talking about this, BUT the amount of heavy fibre, nuts, dairy is not what I've learned is good for Crohn's. Especially when you're in a relapse or flare up. A low residue, soft foods diet is probably better for you than crackers and cookies. Some nutritionists will literally ask you to avoid hard or over cooked meat and food.
What you’ve learned is all wrong and a nutritionist does not know about the micro biome of IBD patients and how all the foods they reccomend are feeding the exact bad bacteria that the SCD eliminates. Please read the book , this diet is BASED ON EXTENSIVE scientific research done by the author, not just someone’s theory or ideas.
Is there a way I can ask for a specific carbohydrate, diet sheet or guidelines from my doctor? I work with an IBD specialist at IU or Indiana University.
Stay away from any processed food, cut out emulsifiers and maltadextrin, no dairy. I have had Crohn’s for over 20 years and changing my diet has helped lots. Not 100% cure but i have not flared badly in months. My son who is 9 also started to complain of stomach cramps and his wing and poop had that IBD smell, he had changed his diet with me and has had no stomach cramps and he doesn’t smell anywhere near as deadly.
Your go to foods and snacks maybe your best tips it's been hard getting harder I'm barley walking as of now hurts to lay down or sit aswell my knees and legs what I'm referring to pretty much the leg including my feet
This sounds interesting! I have had 17 free annual trips about the sun and next year i will become a legal adult. But for now, I am still considered to be an adolescent. (last year as a senior in high school). I am currently taking Entyvio (debolizumab) for my Crohn's situation. It's helping but unfortunately not 100%. I would say about 75 to 80% as i still have some relapses with itense abdominal pain and horrid diarrhoea. This also includes albeit not so frequent embarrassing public bowel accidents (mainly as I can't always seem to find a loo in time)! I wouldlike to try this diet and who knows, it might even stop the diarrhoea and painful stomach cramps! I am eager to try it. Thanks!
Dear god get dairy away from these kids they are not baby cows and if you actually read medical literature Dairy essterbates ibd. Also how about giving them only whole foods not anything processed ever again
Well after my 2nd jp drain in my colon having me in the hospital I'm ready to change. I'm cutting out anything that's an irritant to me. This I'd no joke
That is because you have not healed your gut. Once you start the diet, the healing will begin and you will be able to tolerate those things in six months. No other diet will allow this. Because they do not heal you the way the SCD does.
not in all cases, fiber in plants aggravates intestines and gives diarrhea to some people. A normal diet rich in meat such as chicken and turkey as well as carbohydrates does the trick to some people. Even yogurt with good bacteria suits someone's digestion.
“They want your money”? This makes him NO money. If he wanted your money, he would keep them on cancer-causing biologics their whole lives. This diet works for nearly half who follow it correctly (and could pose work for the other half if they would follow it to the letter). Anyone reading this, buy Gotschall’s book and try yourself. Don’t listen to these internet morons.

It’s amazing how you know more than an IBD specialist.

Peneaut butter? Dairy? Makes no sense. I already tested those nutrients and give me problems.

Omg.. dairy?! This man is a QUACK!! They want your money! Eat legumes, cut out fats and go plant based, people! Give your poor guts a break!
