I need to extend a sincere thank you to Henry and Land Rover.
You see I have struggled for years to find a vehicle capable of transporting my Straw weight boxer Entourage around while still having enough space to pick up stranded Jockys that would otherwise be washed away in the rain.
Thanks to my Discovery Sport we can finally ride comfortably.
Good Video and the Discovery is really a fine SUV - looking quite good and well posed, plenty of space and with real off-road capabilities.
It’s already been 6 months? How time flies...
Thinking on changing my Evoque for this one, more interesting 360° car with more space and off road capacity. Or waiting for the new defender.
Probably the best car I have owned, however I completely agree about the infotainment system & fuel consumption!
Great review Henry. This is the second time I’ve heard you use ‘curious’ and makes me wonder it’s moving out of popular use as I don’t hear it too much? Either way it’s a great word and I’m going to use it more!
Had ours for 11 months, just done 18k miles and it has been virtually faultless. The only problem we have had is the app sometimes doesn’t connect and service light has come on early and needs resetting. If that is all we have to moan about...👍
My favorite Land Rover
I had a discovery Sport for just over three years. A 2016 HSE. Only two issues, the DAB radio would drop out on loss of signal, this was corrected by a software update. The outer plastic cover of one of the tailgate powered cylinders came loose (did not effect the operability of the cylinder). This was apparently a known issues and LR replaced both during a service. I liked my Discovery Sport and found it great in the winter (I live in North Scotland). I sold it to return to my LR of choice, a Range Rover Sport.
One negative I would say is don't believe the MPG figures quoted by LR. I get better MPG from my last two Range Rover Sports than I did from my Disco Sport, about 2mpg better. Disco Sport 28-30mpg RR Sport 30-32mpg. I find this surprising as the RR Sport is a heavier vehicle. I do mainly short trips in and around Aberdeen with the occasional trip down to Edinburgh.
I and my family have been driving Land Rovers for over 20 years and found them all to be reliable so I take most of the negative comments about Land Rovers with a pinch of salt..
I love the Discovery Sport. It looks way better than the Discovery and renders the Evoque obsolete. I even prefer it to the Velar.
The Evoque is not a real Land Rover anyway. It's purely there to let poorer people who want to look flash think they own a Range Rover. It's the only current Land Rover model not to have adjustable air suspension, that pretty much says it all.
MegaGouch the evoque is more expensive than the disco sport, what are you talking about? I have to agree, the not "dynamic or autob" models look hella ugly, but otherwise it's a true land rover
Yes, but the Evoque is a 'Range Rover' so you can tell people you own a Range Rover. The only reason the Sport, Velar or Evoque exists is to allow people with different price brackets into a 'Range Rover'.
The Discovery Sport is much the same trying to cash in on the Discovery name, when really its a Freelander 3, as it (along with the Evoque) are not built on the same chassis as the model they are claiming to be a part of.
I let the Discovery Sport keep a 'real' Land Rover claim as it has come as a replacement to the Freelander which when first built filled basically created a new spot in the SUV/4x4 market.
The Evoque on the other hand was entirely aimed at people who had zero need for a 4x4 or any offroad/towing capabilities but wanted to own a Range Rover.
Hold on guys, the Range Rover Taliban are here to explain what the real Range Rovers are.
Feel free to correct anything thats wrong.
The one issue we had with our 2019 was extreme cold, like -25-35c causes a sensor to freeze on the intake and then puts the car in restricted performance mode.
This I guess is a known issue, but no solution. Living in Canada might mean I get to experience this multiple times a winter :(
I’m tempted, very tempted
Great review, great car. My favourite SUV. The best 4 x 4 x far ;-)
Discovery Sport is, without question, the best car Land Rover makes. It is enormous inside, bearing in mind it is a compact SUV, very comfy and well spec-ed at HSE and beyond. The only gripe is that I would have preferred the sat nav lower and the central air vents positioned above. THe exterior design is ageing VERY well.
I prefer it to my company RRS.
Next years facelift will introduce a new interior that corrects the layout of the sat nav / air vents, new door casings and revised engine management and tech.
Henry is right, Land Rover is a far more desirable badge than Range Rover for most people. It's all because of the type of people that buy Range Rovers. They're stigmatized.
@Dithh afraid not, it was and is designed to be. But so long as tw*ts keep buying Range Rovers, they'll always be a badge to avoid. No class anymore.
@Dithh no, it's Henry's opinion too, and the 29 who liked my comment versus the none who liked yours.
@Dithh It's irrelevant, I am not jealous of a RR and could afford one. I have an XC90.
@Dithh I wasnt comparing anything to a range rover. That's what you're trying to do, to justify the point that most people prefer Land Rover. Which is absolutely true. I'd take my Volvo over either tbh, far better interior design, far better looking and the technology driving my T8 to get 400 horsepower from a 2 litre petrol engine is amazing. It's reliability could be better, but JLR are not known for theirs either.
Most people would love to have a Range Rover, who wouldn't want a $200,000 car. But most people when they see a Range Rover on the road make assumptions that the driver is a footballer, or a rich soccer mum, or some one who thinks they are better than everyone else. Where as if you see a Discovery on the road (or in the past Defender or Freelander) they same assumptions are not made.
Tempted to sell Freelander 2 and get one of these they look great in dynamic spec all black!
Same here but I do love my Freelander 2. I'd miss the opening sunroof.
Changed my Trusty Freelander 2 for a Disco Sport. No regrets it’s a big step up in refinement and the new ingenium engine is a huge improvement on the old 2.2 TD4.
Great wow 💙✌
Spectating? For the last 4 years, my DS has been a marshal vehicle, radio marshal, and safety car, going round each stage just before the first competitive cars arrive checking it's all good go. Never got stuck yet.
And indeed I'm watching this from my hotel room in Shrewsbury coz tomorrow I'll be on the HIgh Vinnals stages of the Woodpecker 2018 rally. :)
Excellent! Hope you had a good day. Sadly wasn't there this year, but have done it in the past. Thanks for all the marshalling - much appreciated.
What about reliability? To me, that is probably the most important question. I don't know whether I am right or wrong, but I find myself still holding onto a certain perception of doubts on the reliability of the Land Rover/Range Rover badge. So, I would love to know how the Discovery Sport fare in that department.
Alex Fu yes that would be interesting to get a response on the reliability issue. It’s unique for a vehicle to be tested for such an extensive period of time and I’m curious to know if they’ve had vehicle failures.
Alex Fu yes same for me, I like Land Rover but I hear too many problems with them
I've got 69.000 kms on my Discovery Sport (petrol 240 bhp) and have had zero problems with it (3,5 years). The only repairs have been because I did something stupid, like reverse into a concrete bollard. My previous land rover was a Discovery 4 which I drove around 100.000 kms in 4,5 years and was also totally reliable. So that's 8 problem free years. I read a lot about reliability issues but not from people who actually own and drive them. Or am I just lucky?
Cuchulain Hammilcar That's good to hear and gives me some confidence towards the Discovery Sport. I may seriously have to consider getting one. But, I do wonder given Jaguar also belongs to the same Group whether their reliability has also been improved accordingly? One could argue the F-Pace competes with the Discovery Sport which could make it quite a tough choice.
Alex Fu I've got 70'050km on my evoque (td4 180hp 9at) no problems
Specialized Tshirt :D
I spend a lot of time on the roads and I'm running out of good podcasts. Can you share some of your favorites?
The ones I listen to (in no particular order) are: Absolute Rally Podcast, No Such Thing as a Fish, Wittertainment, The Cycling Podcast, More or Less, Desert Island Discs, Cycling Tips.
Thanks. I'll add them to my list.
I enjoyed the report and have slightly uplifted my view of this car. Part of me fancies it because of the looks and outdoor appeal, but the economy and engine power lets the car down. .... and 37 mpg is still awful compared to similar cars.
Is this a 2018 model?
Specialized Tshirt,roadie or mtb,if I had to guess Henry's love of rallying,MTB 🤘
In the Bugatti headquaters video Andy Wallace mentioned by Henry had ridden up Mont Ventoux so I'm guessing he is atleast part roadie.
Both! (although MTB for much longer)
@@Your_Paramour For 30 years I have ridden a road bike as my training tool, but I always wait for the weekend when I can ride my MTB. 🤘
Any problems with oil dilution ?
Were you guys watching a movie at 5:18?
i guess is pretty good at carrying bicycles around too :)
A hitch bike rack is still better than inside the Car.
I had a brand new Disco Sport (324 miles) as a loaner for a week, and it was a total POS. It rattled, the driver side sun visor literally fell out of the roof, the wind shield spray jets weren't installed correctly, one actually fell inside the body. The transmission hunts all over the place. I was glad to get my LR4 back.
Biggest annoyance I’ve found on my 2018 model is that the folding mirrors open when you unlock the car (instead of when you power it on) and that it ALWAYS pulls away in 2nd gear even in sport mode but I guess that’s not a lot. Reliability wise, it’s been good but it is still early days. Measuring up to a Q5 will always be a hard task.
I will not buy this car anytime soon, but sure hell loves watching these videos
I bought a brand new Disco Sport, HSE Dynamic LUX in Sept 18, it's a UK 68 plate and I love it,…………... except for that damn ticking sound on the seatbelt pillars front and rear. You don't hear it too much when it's cold but get a little bit of sunshine and that damn ticking noise reappears. It's embarrassing that Landrover still haven't resolved this problem. I also have a lot of wind noise in the cabin to the extent I often check that the windows are closing correctly. The car cost over £51,000 WTF is going on?? It's just embarrassing. It's going back into the garage tomorrow so they can have another go at resolving the problem. I've told them if it isn't fixed once and for all this time then they are to instigate their vehicle rejection procedure as I'll be handing it back to them. No one should pay good money for a car with these issues. WIsh I'd kept my Mercedes ML, or bought the new badged GLE
Can you guys take it serious offroading to see the performance
Wished I had money to buy this.
What's the support vehicle when you're doing updates on the Disco Sport?
RR dawn? Chiron? something else common and utilitarian? ;)
dude lean back :D
GaborBartal He drives like my bloody grandma
I know, I have horrible posture. I blame it on being so tall and growing up in a small cottage where I had to constantly duck through doorways.
Plus I'm sure most cars in your life haven't been gracious to you - in terms of interior height
nice
👍🚘
So 30 mpg imperial, thats about 24 mpg US. Not bad.
gpage it weighs 1900kg
New pod hurry up
5:20 Are they playing Overcooked on PS4?
Well spotted! (we weren't playing very well, I'm afraid)
How many times have you had to bring it to Land Rover for a def refill ??
It would be interesting to see a 6 months of what it's like to live with a classic sports car or GT. Like an MGB GT or a GT6.
It still needs more power. One of their supercharged V-6s would work. Then you wouldn't have that transmission kickdown issue as often.
Thinking of getting one of these to replace my yeti but worried about build quality issues, anyone had any problems? My yeti has been outstanding
My disvovery sport does 40- 55 mpg on motorways cruising at 70mph
What engine have you got?
i heard its not as good off-road as its predecessor LR4 its heavy and it parks its ass specially in the mud
Soooo... u gonna change ur name back to Xcar ?
Living with a disco sport for 1 full year - ua-cam.com/video/rHCHjrqhObk/v-deo.html
24th!
Wear your crispy white dress shirt rather then T-shirt, you look very skinny Henry😄
not a 300tdi though is it ?...
Lofty driving position? You must be having a laugh .. I won’t be trading my Freelander 2 metropolis in for another landrover any time soon .. probably go for a Volvo XC60
If we be honest achieving a maximum of 37mpg on a motorway from a diesel engine is atrocious. Nice looking car still.
i got 100,000kms on my my15 (everything is rattling)
dash
rotary gear knob area
glove box
roof head rest area inside the hood lining
door cards
tail gate inside trim
front bar/grill when stopped in gear (excessive vibrations with the sd4)
front left window squeaking up and down (shame!)
exhaust/shroud rattle underneath car
all conveniently just as the 3year warranty ran out
Did it break down yet? Sell quick before the warranty goes out. Advice from all machanic.
seems henry should focus on performance car review 😂
Yeah, did he ditch Evo magazine?
friend owned a MY16 Disco sport...it visited dealers/workshops more than petrol stations...no thanks...
We should set up a pissed off Land Rover owners club.
Bought one new at the end of 2015. Just before the end of 2017 and with 32k on the clock it went belly up. Required a complete engine change. Road tested by JLR dealer, noise coming fron new engine that couldn't be traced. They spoke tp JLR who said it needed another new engine. Got it back six weeks later only top have the starter motor fail. We got rid. I wouldnt buy another one thats for sure.
A mate at work bought one of these new and the DPF was so problematic and the dealer support so poor that he got rid of it and ended up with a petrol Tiguan. Shame as it’s a handsome car.
that thing is a car disguised as a suv 8,2 inch ground clearance will get you stuck fast My forester has more clearance than this
It's a rattle and roll shit box....that's my verdict after a 24hr loan car
I’m going to set up a “ really cheesed off Land Rover owners club any volunteers?
Henry, we all love you very much, but you should really consider exercising
Do plenty of exercise, but I don't need big arms for running or cycling up mountains! #dontskipalegday
Uh, a Range Rover IS a Land Rover
Toyota Landcruiser is far more reliable. So if I was in a remote location I would put my trust in that.
It's still absolutely Fugly.
The worst car human created on earth with Combinations service 👎👎👎
Check out balance shaft issues, fuel diluting the engine oil, bloody hopeless infoscreen,, particulate filter issues causing limp mode. Brake malfunctioning. I’m bored now, but there re loads of reliability issues. Don’t buy a Land Rover under any circumstances.
that is the ugliest interior i have ever seen in a car
Harvard Ford no one asked for ur opinion
Never own a Land Rover out of warranty. EVER.
Still think Porsche Macan is way better, functionally, dynamically and you drive a Porsche, not a Land Rover.
This guy is boring, bring back the other guy with the glasses!
Hey, I wear glasses too...
OMG!!!! Is there anyone creepier than this guy???? He looks like he just crawled out of a grave somewhere??!? Where the hell is Alex Goy???? Sheesh!!!
I know, Hallowe'en is the annual gift that keeps on giving for me.
What an ugly disgusting Land Rover. In fact all Land Rover are disgusting. Glorified Kai sportages and Nissan quaisqui. Sort it out Land Rover.
