So, let me get this straight. In cave Noir the game Focus has a great deal on Inventory management, yet you don't need to understand Japanese to play it? How does that work! Besides, it's an RPG, how the hell do you select the right item, or spell from the different lists, if you can't read Japanese? Yet you don't need to understand Japanese to play it?!? You guys need to pay attention to this type of stuff in editing. I mean if one of your guys just said something completely nonsensical you might want to reconsider using that bit.
There is something about those primitive graphics that warms my heart. I like the fancy games of today, but I love the simplicity of the games of the past.
Hey Izzy, I've always loved the gameboy line of systems but watching your videos has really influenced me to start collecting them and their games! When I was a kid my first gameboy was the atomic purple gameboy color and it meant so much to me and I love the library that these systems had. So thank you and keep doing what you're doing!
Great job getting some of the top Gameboy UA-cam comunity together for this Epic collaboration. Fantastic tribute to the little system that pionered portabal gaming and made me love handhelds.
most of those games actually seems pretty cool. as someone who have never had gameboy, this actually opened my eyes to what great console this little guy was
I had an original “DMG” and later got the GB Pocket and in my experience I honestly prefer the crappy old DMG. The thing is, ON PAPER the Pocket looks much better right? The screen is bigger and brighter, the battery life is better and it really is small enough to put in your pocket. But in actual use, something about the visuals are just not right. They got rid of the “pea soup” green and unfortunately the resulting display is really sterile and lifeless. Even though the DMG screen was super small and could only be seen in the best lighting conditions, it had this really rich depth to the shading that even though it was black and white it almost approached something like color.
Couldn't agree more. I've recently taken my DMG out of storage and quickly became addicted to it. My wife has a Colour gameboy. I've played it a few times. It's nice. But not the same and just not as nice as the classic.
You know, I had an idea for a Game Boy Classic Edition, and I think this Gameboy Classic Edition should have these features: -Have the same saving features as the NES Classic Edition -Have a backlit screen while still having the games in black-&-white with green coloring that the console is known for -Have the model be shaped after the Gameboy Pocket with all different kinds of colors (or get a special original model Gameboy version which costs more, but is a great collectors item) -Have wireless connectivity to other Gameboys for multiplayer & digital TVs to play the games on it with added color like it's a Super Gameboy -Have a rechargeable battery that can charge through a USB cable and these would be the games: 1. Tetris 2. Dr. Mario 3. Super Mario Land 4. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins 5. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 6. Pokemon Red/Blue (you will get one of these randomly) 7. Mario's Picross 8. Operation C 9. Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters 10. Final Fantasy Adventure 11. Megaman V 12. Wave Race 13. Alleyway 14. Balloon Kid 15. Donkey Kong 94' 16. Donkey Kong Land 17. Baseball 18. Golf 19. Tennis 20. Blades of Steel 21. International Superstar Soccer 22. F-1 Race 23. the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 24. Metroid II: the Return of Samus 25. Kid Dracula 26. Gargoyle's Quest 27. Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge 28. Final Fantasy Legend II 29. Kirby's Dream Land 30. Kirby's Dream Land 2 31. Pinball: Revenge of the Gator 32. Street Fighter II 33. Double Dragon II 34. Ninja Gaiden Shadow 35. Harvest Moon GB 36. Mole Mania 37. Gradius: Interstellar Assault 38. Pacman 39. Kirby's Pinball Land 40. Kirby's Block Ball do you think that would be good?
This is an amazing collab video!! wow!! I can't believe this doesn't have more views, so many great creators with concise game descriptions and really funny too!! love it, subbed
Haha! You did a great job man! Get Metal Jesus and da crew to do more game boy videos, it doesn't get enough love over on that side! the "buying guides" are kinda eh, we want more in-depth videos with your guys's style! (rather than the essential games that we always see on the general GB type of videos lol) keep it up man!!
My favorite Game Boy game (and my favorite game in general) is Link's Awakening. First Zelda game I ever beat, and it actually brought me into gaming. So glad it's getting a remake.
Burger Time Deluxe, by me Donkey Kong, by Shane Luis of RerezTV RoboCop, by Justin Whang Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, by Bob Wulff of Wulff Den Solar Striker, by Elliot from The Retro Future CaveNoir, by Derek of Stop Skeletons From Fighting Tetris, by Colin of This Does Not Compute Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, by Kevin Kenson Mole Mania, by John Riggs Pokemon Trading Card Game, by Jon of SpawnWave
My parents recently retired and moved to Florida. I haven’t gotten to see either my mom or dad for about 6 months now. It was easy to deal with until I saw this video. The very first video game console I ever owned was the game boy and I remember getting it with my dad. I think we were at Toys ‘R Us and the person behind the desk asked what game I wanted. I shouted “Donkey Kong!” and my dad bought it for me with a smile on his face. I’m pretty certain that the game was brand new seeing as it came out in 1994 and that would’ve been around the year when I got it. Now I’m at work watching this video with tears in my eyes missing my dad more than ever. Thanks, I genuinely and in all seriousness needed that. If you’re reading this, call you parents because I guarantee you they miss you.
So many good Game Boy games out there...ALL of these in the list are fantastic! I spent SO many hours playing Tetris, Zelda, Super Mario Land, Dr. Mario, but nothing can compare to Jon/SpawnWave's favorite....Pokemon Trading Card Game was so much fun to me and I don't really know why. Maybe because it was so easy to learn for me. I never cared for the other Pokemon games (I played some of them, not all of them) and I never cared that much about games like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh, but the Game Boy version of Pokemon Trading Card Game had me playing for HOURS and HOURS. It's probably my favorite Pokemon game of all time...
Damn, they sell that Burger game for $3 bucks? They tripping😭👏 Most of these Gamboy and Nintendo games should be free like those games we use to play on NewGrounds and Kongregate
Only about halfway through the video, but really liking it. Thanks, by the way, for including the list of games in the description. I know that means people might not watch the entire video, but I am still going to watch it all even though the list is in the text. It's a small thing that I really appreciate, although I don't even know why myself.
The low power and spec on the Gameboy was part of its success. The battery lasted for many hours, which was a HUGE plus over other handhelds. Many games were really good and whilst the spec was low on teh Gameboy, the games were still fantastic and accessible for all.
Whang, Derek, and Izzy all in one vid? Sign me up. Loved the selections, I’ll have to track down Solar Striker. If I had to choose some more def check out Qix and Nemesis, they are great fun and super cheap
- Wario Land 3 - Puzzle platformer, possibly the best game on the console - Azure Dreams - Roguelike RPG with monster collecting - Motocross Madness 2 - 2D Motocross platformer with level editor
You’re right - Donkey Kong is gaming perfection! I also love Solar Striker, but mainly for the catchy music. My own faves Turrican & Cyraid deserve to be better known too. Cheers!
I just want to tell you that this is the first video I've seen of yours but you make absolutely epic professional videos that belong in the mainstream. Everything just flows really well. Good job
This video pretty much sums up the last several months of myself digging up retro games :D I am now in love with all Castlevania, Ghost N Goblins, Contra, Kid Dracula and beyond!
Never watched any of Bob Wulff's videos, but he suggested Metal Gear Ghost Babel, and that game is *FREAKING AWESOME* and a bit underrated, so he got my respect and I will check his channel now!
My favorite game on the Gameboy was Tetris for most of the same reasons that Colin stated. But it also holds a special place in my life. I never really got into the Gameboy, I was a PC gamer but I was a young paratrooper in the US Army in 1994 and was being deployed to Haiti for Operation Restore Democracy. The local B/X on base was having a clearance sale on the GB and so me and my buddy decided we wanted to take our gaming hobby/addiction with us to Haiti. We grabbed a GB and a couple games, Tetris and maybe Contra. We played the HECK out of Tetris on that GB over the few months we were deployed to Haiti. I got really, really good at Tetris during that time. So
The Japanese word "dame" ("no", or in this context, "no good") is pronounced "da-meh". Also I'm astonished to see a shout-out to Solar Striker. That was a REALLY early Gameboy game- not a launch title, but pretty shortly after, as far as I'm aware, and one of the first games my brother and I ever got for our Gameboys. I never managed to beat the stage 4 boss.
I actually got my GB with Solar Striker as an 8 year old kid. I couldn't finish it for years but I knew the first three levels by heart, some years later, not playing it, I actually beat it within a few hours. It truly was a great little Shmup and probably the best starting point for anyone interested in such games, I also loved Xenon 2 later on, which was an RPG-like shmup where you could buy better weapons and power up your ship with actual money your enemies dropped.
I hear so much shade being thrown at solar striker...... I loved that game and still play it to this day too. It may not be the "best" or "most innovative" game on GB, but its fun, cheap, and addictive to play. You really cant ask for anything more in a retro game imo. Great vid, thanks. Although between you, metal Jesus, and cinemassacre all doing Game Boy game reviews recently, you know this is going to be driving up the prices of games for us collectors, right? Oh well, it happened a few times over the years with NES and N64, I can wait a bit for prices to drop again ....
Pokemon crystal on that game boy brick, batman return of the joker, teenage mutant ninja turtle, duck tales, mortal Kombat 1 and 4, elevator, jurassic Park, spiderman, but I still say pokemon Crystal/gold/silver/yellow/blue/green/red is the reason game boy went to the top and the rest is history... Now we shall wait for sword and shield... Man 8th generation... Time sure flies
Mostly platformer suggestions here but: -All of the Mega Man Game Boy games (mostly 4 and 5 for me) -Both Kirby's Dream Land games -Mario Land 2 -Wario Land 1-3 -Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
Great list of gameboy color titles. All the black and white gameboy titles that also function on gameboy color provide you with options when inserted into a super gameboy. I like that super gameboy and when using it in a portable snes console such as retro duo portable or the supaboy, you really get a super gameboy with backlight color display and other benefits. List: 1. Burger time deluxe while available on the virtual console, I don't like how the virtual console does not give you the option to play the game in gameboy color mode or a super gameboy mode which would have been very possible on the new 3ds and the wiiu. 2. Donkey kong also is in the same situation as Burger time deluxe when it comes to virtual console. 3. Robocop is not available on the virtual console. but looks like an interesting title to play. 4. Metal gear ghost babel is not on the virtual console, but is also based on the metal gear series that despite getting the first ps1 game for cheap, am feeling hesitant to get into this series. 5. Solar striker looks like a title that needs attention especially if you play it with a super gameboy. 6. Cave Noir such a competitor to the zelda series dungeons but offer its own kind of dungeon gameplay. Lets see that on gameboy color or even the super gameboy and what it has to offer. Also not on virtual console. 7. Tetris, a great classic, not on virtual console, but the cartridge is available cheap due to large number of copies sold. Many variations of the title exist on most consoles and online and apps, not to mention the release of tetris 99 on Nintendo switch. 8. All 3 of the gameboy color zelda games available on virtual console. A remake for links awakening DX is going to come out on Nintendo switch this summer. Those oracle of seasons and ages seemed to have version exclusive things as well as link cable functionality to "trade" some things. They also have super gameboy functionality. 9. Mole mania available on virtual console but only black and white. Super gameboy and other functionality might exist for this title. 10. Pokemon trading card game. Pokemon started it all on the gameboy and why would the TCG be not included. Color virtual console exists and the title is good at teaching how to play the TCG.
Love the video and the guest stars, but there should of been some mention of Pokemon R/B/Y, defo still hold up to this day and can still be bought and played on official hardware with the 3DS. Although maybe those games go without saying haha, I also loved the TCG game spawnwave mentioned.
Definitely gonna find myself a copy of John Riggs' recommendation Mole Mania. And can not believe I dont already have Burgertime DX. Heck there are only three of the games on this list that I am not going to go try & get copies of . I have Tetris, who doesnt, also have Donkey Kong, but have no desire to get Pokemon. Ive never been into the whole thing with Pokemon at all. But Solar Striker looked like a great space shooter, and all the rest are definitely going on my Need To Get List. But I cant believe that no one mentioned either of the Contra games, Operation C is my favorite, but Alien Wars is great as well.
Ah yes, burger time, remember playin' it in colored version on a bootleg gba cartridge. Wish I still had that gba. I'm on my quest to expand my virtual console collection and this might be the reference I've been lookin' for, thanks Izzy !

My fav game for the original game boy dmg is the first grand theft auto. You should check it out. And maybe make a video
Did you check out the new Bittboy custom firmware, it runs GBA very good!
I LOVE Gameboy original '89 it's bigger then the Gameboy color so it's more comfortable imo

oml hi
Donkey Kong for the Game Boy is a perfect example of how to do a remake that blows away the original.
Ayeee Allie, how about a new video on your channel PLEASE, i am hopelessly waiting for the kamen rider climax heroes retrospective.
@@Miraak22 …I wouldn’t really considered it a remake. It’s a new game that just happens to begin with the four original Donkey Kong levels.
I would like a GBA version of this video. Awesome video btw!
PrashBricks III I agree. That would be great
GBC too while we are at it
I would, too. Please Izzy. Loved the video too mate.
@@NueThunderKingThat would be cool too!
@@retroprogamer7009 That's interesting, though obviously not what I meant LOL...
Izzy loves Game Boy so much he even has a "In case of emergency break the glass to get a Game Boy".

Crazy that every single youtuber that showed up are ones I watch and love
Thanks! :)
Great video. As I'm just getting back into GB/GBA gaming this has been very informative 👍
- Wario Land 3 - Puzzle platformer, possibly the best game on the console
- Azure Dreams - Roguelike RPG with monster collecting
- Motocross Madness 2 - 2D Motocross platformer with level editor
For me, Megaman Dr. Wily's Revenge, Kirby's Dream Land and Pokemon Red.
Dreamland 2 is better...

Beautifully made video and extremely interesting, deserves more views

Damn I watch 7/10 of these guys
Surprised to see Whang show up lol
Robocop on the Gameboy reminds me of the ZX Spectrum version which was amazing!
Dragon Warrior III
(Dragon Quest III)
They redid the game added mini medals
A must-have for the system
Azure dreams
Crystalis
Solar Striker! Oh yeaaaaaa!!
cool video, my list would be a lot different, but it is awesome to see a collab between so many retro gamers
Glad you enjoyed it!

Da-me like だめgaming on original Gameboy DMG can be horrible compare to pocket but it’s still the fact is the original Gameboy is a legendary handheld
No Kirby's Dream Land 2?! Amazing game and the start of so much in the Kirby universe.
I love this collab! Amazing video. PLEASE DO A "GAMES TO PUT ON YOUR NEW BITTBOY " VIDEO!!!!!
Absolutely. Great idea!

Great video! I now have to go back and beat Donkey Kong! Also great seeing some of the retro gamers I'm subbed to on this video.
Mostly platformer suggestions here but:
-All of the Mega Man Game Boy games (mostly 4 and 5 for me)
-Both Kirby's Dream Land games
-Mario Land 2
-Wario Land 1-3
-Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
Happy to see someone rep Mole Mania
Moll Mania never hear of it .. sounds like big fun :D 16:30
List starts at 2:42
Great topic. I definitely agree with Colin on this one
Who Like "Double Dragon"?

What a video! You + other amazing youtubers! Thanks for this, Izzy!
What a video indeed!
19:05 "Seriously Gary? Three Charizards?" that should be on a t-shirt. Merch idea? (20% for me is fine) hahaha
Cool video bro 👍
Solar Strikers is a great shooter, love that game.
Nice list though 😃
Wow rerez is in this video. That was a nice suprise :)
Didn't think Elliot would beat that solar striker level. damn
Nice to see some Whang in your video... 😁
List:
Excellent point on 1 and 2. How I wish Burger Time and DK had the Super Game Boy mode thing on the 3DS...
Love the video and the guest stars, but there should of been some mention of Pokemon R/B/Y, defo still hold up to this day and can still be bought and played on official hardware with the 3DS. Although maybe those games go without saying haha, I also loved the TCG game spawnwave mentioned.
One of my favorite game boy games was Dragon warrior monsters. I sunk so many hours into that game when I was in middle school.
Solar Striker is very fun!
Great vid man all youtubers I watch on the regular too! Just missing beatemups!
Wow, i searched for the soundtrack for solar striker just the other day. My childhood friend and I played it a lot in the 90s.
Best pick of UA-camrs!!
Good vid, and nice collab. The gameboy had an amazing library.
I only really played Pokemon on my GBC when I was a kid. I'm looking forward to properly checking out the library on my psp!

Hey Sean!
The Retro Future Haha, small world!
Donkey Kong was my first game on the original GB. Memories..
Ah yes, burger time, remember playin' it in colored version on a bootleg gba cartridge. Wish I still had that gba. I'm on my quest to expand my virtual console collection and this might be the reference I've been lookin' for, thanks Izzy !
