Best mini game ever. My friend and I used to hang out just to play this single mini game for hours. My best distance is 135.xx, and his is 156.xx. I recorded one if his old records on my channel, but I think it was only in the 145 range. Still impressive without TAS.
Should've used Boo. Then the comment section would be filled with remarks of "How does he jump without feet?" and "He's cheating because he's actually flying!" Also it's just unsettling seeing Mario stand on solid air.
The one thing i had the most trouble understanding in your explanation, is that the reason you had to start the triple jump as soon as possible was because you wanted to get the jump cut at the MAX possible height, which is very interesting
The weird ascend? It's weird game mechanic... Otherwise, please refer to my video description. Pausing was used to get extra A-presses in - It's a TAS trick.

Is it me, or is this mini-game really finicky? You can mash that button like a maniac but I've seen no one get past 100 that wasn't a BS CPU.

I’ve got mine at 109. That’s by tensing my arm so that it shakes and then use that to spam the buttons.
That Sonic seems to like jumping
And as of Sonic Adventure 2/2: Battle, like to bouncing.
I had to use a sharpie marker to slide across the buttons to tap fast enough back then.
