Hérbin Violette Pensée - Purple ink was the standard ink used in French schools, because the dye in it (methylene violet/gentian violet) was the cheapest dye of all. Schools bought it in powdered form, and the teachers would pour it into a jug of water, mix it, and pour it into the inkwells in the desks.
The purple dye has anti-bacterial properties, and it's also used to prevent thrush (a bacterial infection) in babies and nursing mothers.
That is so interesting! I love the background on this and it makes me appreciate the ink all the more (and I can understand why it comes in big bottles!)
I wonder if there is any relation to the purple stuff my mother used to put on scrapes when I was a kid; I don’t know what it was called, but it was very purple and was an antibacterial.
Is it just me or is 90% of the draw for buying inks the bottles ;)
@@paulx7620 guilty as charged...
@@SuperManning11 I'm guilty too
"It's a glass-pen only ink, and of course I put it in a fountain pen."
I feel like that should be your channel's motto :)
Hahaha! It probably should! This is too funny!
I chuckled out loud when you said that, and my 10yo son asked “what’s so funny?”. I said “oh it’s pen people stuff” and he went back to reading his book without asking further questions. 😂
@@jkpens fountain pen funnies!
Best line! Lol!
She’s like the mad scientist of inks and pens. I enjoy the way it’s presented.
"They make the list because they stack."
haha! Many don't meet those very strict criteria...
Your comment is glorious
How is it that you manage to both calm me with silky voice and visuals, and make me laugh out loud with your hilarious deadpan commentary?! Another fabulous video (and this from someone too impatient to sit through most videos as a rule). Thanks, Inky Rocks!
hahaha! Thank you so much! Best compliment I've had for this channel!
The only pen and ink videos that are beautiful in themselves.
Oh Wow! Thank you so much! What a great holiday gift for me!
This was so beautifully shot and narrated I almost forgot this was about inks.
haha! Thank you so much!
What a cool channel! Figuring out what inks will murder my pilot parallel pens is my primary method of Gambling.
Thank you! I have been trying to murder my parallel 6.0s and have not been successful. On a video in the near future, I will be taking a dremel to it.
@@InkyRocks oh to make a a scroll nib? I love my scroll pens they make my calligraphy look more advanced than it actually is 😂
@@isidoreaerys8745 actually I'm going to jam it into a T1!
Those neon inks are my new obsession. I won't be able to sleep at night until I get every single one.
hahaha! You in a very big group with that--quite a few people love those inks!
Thank you for such a fun end to the year's inks. So much I would have never known but for you. Happy New Year.
I'm glad it was fun! Thank you! Happy New Year to you and your family!
Fascinating as usual! I especially liked the chromatography butterflies and the ink with turquoise particles.
Thanks so much! I would like the butterflies better if I did them right...The turquoise ink is awesome!
What a lovely speaking voice. I immediately felt like I was watching a Bob Ross video. Soothing and pleasant and informative.
Bob Ross was awesome--so this makes me happy! Thanks!
Thanks Inky.Rocks for this inky deep end dive.
hahaha! It was an inky deep end dive! Thank you so much!
Just found you. Loved how you presented the inks.
Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy my vids!
You never disappoint! I love the creative spin. Thanks for introducing these crazy inks!
Thank you! I always wonder how people will react to my nuttiness!
I LOVE the butterfly idea! Thank you for sharing this!
It is pretty cool, if I could just do it right haha! Thanks!
It's been the best video I've seen this year so far. Thank you!

Thank you for a year full of beautiful inky videos !!
Thank you so much! I so appreciate your support!
Pure magical, hypnotic presentation! What beautiful colours, absolutely what is lacking in the current world of a pandemic.
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment!
I have to buy more inks now. 😂 I love how you explain all these inks. Your filming is gorgeous and really shows off the colors and effects of the inks. It's always a highlight of my day when I see a new Inky Rocks video.
That means so much to me! Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
This video was great fun & such an amazing visual treat!!! The Scribo bottles made such an impression on me I ordered an empty bottlecftom Vanness earlier this year lol.
hahaha! They are crazy bottles! Of hand, I weighed them while I was making the video and I just couldn't believe they were over a pound! Thank so much Chris!
What an interesting video! I'm learning so much from all of your videos, thank you for taking the time to post them for us to enjoy :)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you are getting something from them--I can never tell if I've just gotten too nutty hahaha!
Such delightful inks, and a video full of fun and interesting descriptions of them. Thank you for doing these wonderful videos. Have a great holiday and let’s hope next year is better than this one.

Beautiful💜 very relaxing to watch, almost like a meditation 😌 (And: so interesting!!)

Love the cinematography and learning about the inks.
Thank you-glad you enjoyed it!💕
That was the most pleasant 23minutes online I've spent in a long time! fascinating and relaxing at the same time. I'll be looking to buy the Lennon Toolbar gushing spring for sure. thank you
Thank you so much Gareth-that means a lot to me!
This video is so well thought out and well made ❤ The inks are shot so beautiful.
Thank you so much! This one was a lot of work but a fun one!
What a beautifully made video. Amazing inks too.
Thank you so much!
I love the butterflies! They're a beautiful way to display the chromatography for fun inks.
Though I need to work on doing it better, it really was fun!
What a fun walk through lovely inks. I'm in love with many of them; however, my favorite is definitely Yaching Style Jewelry Ink Turquoise. I will be on the lookout for that one. I'm a sucker for turquoise. Happy New Year, Alesa!
Thank you! I really like that ink. I'm a sucker for turquoise too! Have a great 2021!
Definitely some crazy and interesting inks. I think my favorite was the turquoise. The glass pens with converters are interesting, too. I'm not even sure how that would work but I'm going to find out. Thank you for so many amazing videos.
Merry Christmas to you all and enjoy your New Years mountaintop adventure. I look forward to the top pens video.
Thanks so much Jackie! I just love that Turquoise ink! You can check out Yaching Style's IG. She also does beautiful water color-like drawings with her ink and glass pens. Merry Christmas to you too, and your family and kitties!
I just discovered your channel through youtube recommendation and I LOVED this video! I love your voice so much too

Thank you so much! I'm glad you are getting something out of this!
I love your videos so much. Such an interesting collection and your filming and commentary are top notch. I love all the rocks too. Thank you so much for delivering amazing content to us in the US. I hope to get to Tokyo next year and attend some of these events. Happy New Year!!
Thank you so much! Happy you like the "rocks" side of InkyRocks haha! Hope you make it out here--it is so fun. Have a great 2021!
Feels so nice to watch the video looking forward to the top pen video.
haha! Thank you--it won't be "normal"!
What a fantastic channel!! As a lover of all things Japanese and a long-term stationary addict, coming across your videos has been a dream! I've already binged your stationary shows which offer such a unique and rare insight into Japan's office gadgets! Seeing the attention to detail, innovation and craftsmanship in Japanese stationary has been fascinating to view on your videos. I am hooked! Keep up the excellent work, look forward to a new video but will continue to binge through your older content!! Thank you 😁
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! Japan really has cool stationery! It's hard to pass a store and not "just take a look" haha! Thanks!💞
This is amazing stuff-so many unique and incredible inks and finds-and-the butterflies! (Only in Japan!) Thank you for the incredible video (and videos in general…) So much info, I’ll need to watch again!-
Thank you so much--I'm so glad you get something out of the vids!
Thank you for the great content and a happy new year.
Thank you! And Happy New Year to you!

Very very cool! Happy holidays! May your new year be a blessed year.
Thank you so much! Have a lovely holiday season and an awesome new year!
So many awesome inks. I love the turquoise
Thank you! The turquoise is my favorite!
Oh, here's my stress reliever!
haha! Happy that it is!
I love it when YT suddenly shows me a new channel. very much enjoyed watching this, though with some envy, as I'm in the UK. Plus your crystals/stones were a joy to me too. Naturally I have now subscribed.
Thank you so much! It's nice to know there are others that enjoy both pens and rocks!
Great video and inks, and I love your rock and mineral collection, too!
hahaha! Thank you! It's nice to have people recognize the "rock" side of Inky Rocks! Happy New Year!
I am so thrilled I recently found your channel. Such a beautifully presented and informative video. I was completely fascinated from the first second. Thank you so much for posting. C xx
Thank you so much! Your lovely comment made my day. I put a lot of work in these and just sail them out the door hoping they will connect with pen friends!
Oh my goodness they do! You certainly made my day and the work you put into that video was soooo obvious. It really was fabulous. I'm happily bing watching all your previous videos....bliss and so looking forward to your next one on pens. Can't thank you enough... Hugs C xx
Alesa thank you for doing these videos, I'm learning so much. TFS 🌺
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you are getting something out of them!
Thanks for your videos
Your videos are always so mesmerising with the way you play with the ink - splish splosh! You have a very soothing voice!
Wishing you a happy new year and a merry Christmas 🎄 (if you celebrate). 🙏🍸🍾
Thank you so much! Splish splosh is for real! I should do blooper videos! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Beautiful inks and video! Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you!
What a great video! Thanks!
Thank you so much--glad you liked it!
Very cool inks! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your continued support!
I love the way your videos open up new worlds. And you always manage to take us on a wild ride with your experiments, such as putting glass-pen-only inks in fountain pens. You do it with such a calm, soothing voice that we know it's going to be OK no matter what happens! I love the chromatography butterflies, but that looks like the kind of thing I would mess up and I'm not good with what-might-have-been's. Better to just watch you play with these treasures and sit back and enjoy the tour. The "crazy inks" theme is a good one.
Hahaha! I messed up those butterflies royally but still had fun! I guess I need to be fearless in posting my mistakes as people don't seem to mind them! Thank you so much for your continued support! Hope you are enjoying your holidays!
@@InkyRocks Happy holidays to you too, Alesa! Enjoy the mountain top. That sounds like a lovely tradition.
Beautiful video! Grazie e Buon Natale!
Thank you! Buon Natale anche a te!
it is hypnotic.
hahaha! Thank you!
Wow, there is no end to the wonders ink. And I thought a mild shimmer was the bees knees - Europe is so far behind!
It's a pretty crazy ink scene here. There are ladies that have tons of ink and make gorgeous art with it. (and own all kinds of beautiful glass pens)
Thank you very much for a beautiful video. Every ink presentation is interesting and well done. You have a wonderful voice that has a ASMR quality: very relaxing and calming and soothing.
Thank you so much! I’ve been so busy lately but comments like yours keep me trying to carve out time to make these vids!
First time I’ve seen you anywhere. Exceptional presentation in this video. Kudos. I immediately subscribed. Almost every ink you presented was unknown to me. No longer.
Thank you! That's great you got something out of it! I'm curious, how did you find this video?
@@InkyRocks Didn’t look for it. It was auto selected very likely because I watch so many pen, paper & ink videos. Maybe also cause I spent several hours last night picking a new ink for a new amber demonstrator pen. Ended up with Iroshizuku Ina-ho. Funny…whereas Iroshizuku used to seem extremely exotic, compared to the inks you presented it seems more mundane. I think it’s called, horizons.
Some insane inks...going to look for them online. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching--they are pretty crazy hahah!
I just love the natural vocal fry in your voice.
I've had other people comment on my vocal fry and I finally had to look it up--I didn't know it was a thing. It looks like it is perceived as a negative thing in women, but I'm OK with that. Flying jets in the 80's was considered a negative thing for women too hahaha! Thank you for your lovely compliment--it means a lot from someone with such a beautiful voice (I listened to a couple of your covers!)
@@InkyRocks I didn't know it was a thing either until SB19 used it in the rap parts of their song called "What?" We learn new things everyday~ I subbed by the way because your videos are so calming especially during these tough times. Oh my goodness! Thank you for checking out my videos. You didn't have to, but I very much appreciate your kind words. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there! ^__^v
That butterfly thing is amazing.
Pretty cool right?! Now if I can do it right..
I watched this again and love your presentation style. Wish I could find your fave 2020 ink in the US. I look forward to each of your offerings. Thanks!
Thank you so much! That is actually and excellent idea for a vid--it's now on my list!
Visual poetry. Thanks.
Wow! Thanks for such a lovely comment!
Well, you can clean the feed on a Preppy. It takes F O R E V E R. So, it’s really easier to just toss it if necessary and buy another since they’re so cheap.
You are so right! Some inks take forever to get out and it would be just so easy if they had a more "normal" feed!
If this video doesn't merit a subscription, I don't know what does. I had an ear-to-ear smile from beginning to end.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you were smiling--hahaha makes me happy!
@@InkyRocks I watched several other videos of yours last night. I'll be the first to admit that you've got me a little hooked, and it's not just because I'm a fountain pen/ink/stationery nerd who is slightly obsessed with all things Japanese. I really like your style. It's abundantly clear that you're an eloquent person with a very interesting background story (that picture of you as a pilot!) but - and this is where people usually score most points with me - you're obviously a real sweetheart to boot. Keep making awesome videos, Alesa, and I'll keep watching. Greetings from Belgium.
So fun. I love your vids.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching them!
Yes I’m a pen nerd. My most expensive pen is in the $20 range and I’ve collected at least ten. The largest portion of my ink collection is samples to try out before I commit to a bottle.
I did just order an oblique pen holder from a seller on Etsy that I’ve been eyeing for a very long time. I believe he’s from Turkey. I’m over the moon excited to have it arrive!
So yes, if you get enjoyment from seeing ink floating through water and chromatography strips-you’re a pen nerd too.
Pen nerds unite! We are the best!
Awesome, thank you
Thank you so much for watching!
Stunning selection of inks, I look forward to you pen list next week. Take care. Congratulations Galloway Girl.
Thank you so much! Hope you are enjoying the holidays!
@@InkyRocks Thank you, it’s a bit weird as it’s our first Christmas without our son. He’s stuck in lockdown at University, so it’s going to be strange.

Am I having a very vivid dream! This is an incredible movie to watch. It is so inspiring and relaxing, leaving my mind in wonder and amazement. I am totally captivated, thumbs up, in fact, all fingers up!! and needless to say subscribed. Will be stopping by every day/night for another adventure.
Thank you very much! These vids take a lot of time (though they are just a hobby for me) and I truly appreciate such kind comments.
@@InkyRocks Yes, I understand it must take one of those' forever times' for sure. You really have to love what you do to go through all the work and for it to flow into a real work of art for all to enjoy...thanks for your gifts of time and art, it really is loved and apprecialted.
Another enjoyable video! Congrats to the Galloway Gal :)
Thank you--glad you enjoyed it!
Was born in Japan so nice to see some inks from there. I love metallic inks, I want one that is totally chrome maybe one day... I know calligraphy ink has one...
Now that would be a pretty crazy ink!
LOVED the video as usual! Particularly enjoyed the story of the Japanese sea monster. I'm going to choose to believe that I'm protected from the pandemic now that I've seen his picture, haha. (But I'm still going to hedge my bets by taking the vaccine!).
Thank you so much! I choose to believe I'm protected as it's a good mindset, but like you, I'm doing the vaccine too (along with masks etc)! Plus, it's a cute little monster!
Such AMAZING inks!!! Thank you so much for the review! Now I have to get those pens that are never dying no matter the ink you use in them!
Thank you so much! I'm surprised how resilient some pens are--it's great!

Lovely video !
Thank you very much!
beautiful video!
Thank you very much!
I've been picking up some Jacques Herbin inks this year; the Emeraud de Chivor, Vert Atlantide, Amythyste de L Oural, and Kyanite du Nepal all now call my room and pages home. I'll pick up a few more from them and definitely consider the ones here for a future purchase as well
J Herbin inks are very nice--I really like them. I sounds like you do too!
Another fun, well-researched video! Clearly, someone's been to Okamotoya more than once this year. Also, that Gleaners ink looks like broccoli soup.
hahaha! This is a first! I don't think I've ever owned an ink that looks like soup! Thanks Jacob!
Awsome job!
Thank you! Cheers!
💜 I just purchased all but the Neon Pink of the Kala Nostalgia Neon inks, and I got that Tono and Lims Comet Hale Bopp. Plus a whole bunch of other stuff from a couple other sites.
Oh man! You ARE walking on the crazy side! Hope you like them!
@@InkyRocks I am quite certain I will. My credit card asked me to break up with your channel cause you are a bad influence on my budget… 🤪 I told him, shut up and sit down. In fact here go pay for the glass pen from Hanabi glass pens. That’ll teach him. Is there a 2021 Pen/ink show that you went to that I missed?
@@robbourne1950 There is a video posted in November or so, about the Tokyo International Pen show of 2021
Lovely!! I’ll watch it again to take a few notes. Looking for divine waterproof inks for my art so if inclined a video just on this topic for us artsy folks would be fantastic! I usually like inks that look like old inks but want to update so the neon are interesting and bold! Cheers for 2021!
Thank you! Just offhand, waterproof ink I've used: D'atramentis Document Blue, Diamine Registars ink, and Platinum Sepia. Have you see Jet Pen's chart? In case you haven't: www.jetpens.com/blog/the-best-waterproof-fountain-pen-inks/pt/829

It’s almost 2022 and I found myself revisiting your post. Viewing this was mesmerizing…too bad I can only give it one like. What was the background music? With headphones, I could hear it and I realize just how much work you put into the production of your videos…I’m grateful and thank you. You have brightened my evening.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video Michele! A lot of these videos do take a lot of time and I always underestimate that and end up doing all-nighters hahaha! I don't remember the music but I've just recently been trying to keep track of the music I use and list it in the description. Thank you so much!✨
Would love to try out some of those inks! The "Yaching Style Jewelry Ink Turquoise" looked to me the most interesting.
I really like it though it may not be for everyone. I think some people think it's a bit of a boring color, but writing with it is awesome!
