in this age of remastering old games, fm 4 and 5 would be worthy of the treatment

I want a remaster of FM 5 but with some details carried over from FM 3 is that so much to ask?
They could do a remake of all these games and make money. Square doesn't even really have to do new games when they could remake a lot of older rpgs they have hardly anyone played. They proved you can make an old rpg and sell it with trials of mana on ps4/switch. Game sold great, and it isn't even high budget. Just give me FM2 and FM3 with FM4 or 5 graphics and i'll be good.

Well, considering this game requires knowledge of Front Mission, Front Mission 2, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Front Mission Alternative, Front Mission Online, and the various supplemental materials that also did not make it outside of Japan in a series Square originally intended to be something that could appeal to both Japanese and Western gamers alike... yeah, there was no way FM5 was going to make it.

Got to play this yesterday and was having fun with it for 2 hours. But then my graphic card caught on fire and had to put my old one in. Best 2 hours of my life for sure.

Graphically, fm4 and fm5 is way over fm3. But the feels of the battle, i must say fm3 has more impact than the sequel. I never skipped fm3 battle scenes, it has "ooomph" factor that I cannot explain. Maybe the sound effect when the bullet hit? Maybe the random occurence of the skill? Idk, but fm3 battle scene always make me pumped.
I think to a degree it's how the Wanzers moved. In FM3 they have real weight to them, and the slow, slightly awkward way they move made them feel like giant, complex machines capable of causing real damage when they swung.
Yup i TOTALLY agree with this feeling. The wanzers in 3 moved slower, you could tell they weighted tons just by the way they walked. Everytime a wanzer punched, the delay, the setup and finally the *CLUNK*, you felt that punch.
Front mission 3 is still the best
Many even still played that till this day.
I wish they would go back to the rpg/strategy style game, instead of the Evolved/shooter game.
It worked for Front Mission Gun Hazard though.
I wish they would go back to the classic gameplay and story. I like large armies.

I like TRPG, Fire Emblem is still one of my favorite series, but Mecha and TRPG is a really bad combination. Maybe back then it was cool just like Advance Wars, but now it's not. Either you take the RPG only or make it RTS, or maybe they can somehow make it into Real-Time Tactical RPG. And we already have XCOM for that, all they lack is the big mechas.
Damn, I miss Turn-based RTS. It feels like in a blink of eye, every game turns into mindless fps shooter
This game's battle system is the best I've ever experienced in any SRPG.
The combos and friendly fire gives this one more depth IMO.
I felt Pilot Damage was kind of awkwardly implemented.
They were super difficult to hit, incredibly tanky, and more often than not, just an alternate version of Stun as you got randomly ejected.
The idea was sort of interesting, but I didn't ultimately like it as a mechanic.
Get a comp with high activation. slap in 4 pilot damages. equip with weak machine gun = free wanzer . or just eject punch. haha
Loved Front Mission 3, but this one is cool too. You know... customizing the Wanzer was a thing I really enjoyed! You know, experimenting with the Battle Skills, Computers and such, in order to estimate the maximum triggers and inflicting the most Damage to enemy Wanzers. Pure joy let me tell you :)
Dude I just hooked up my PS2 to play FM 4. It's crazy cause when I was a kid I didn't really understand how to maximize weapons, Wanzer parts and skills. Now that I'm older it gives me so much more appreciation for FM4

I wish they would have carried over the sound effects from FM3 into 4 and 5 because they always seemed underwhelming when compared.
FM3 was better since you can kill the pilot to capture mechs. Don't know why they removed it.

@@user23x7bnmqr4 oh yea and how would you "steal one"? So enemy decides to take a smoke walk and you have to climb a 3 story hight and then magically know how to pilot it and shoot, let alone even walk a few steps without falling over

Man this UI and these shitty effects really hold this game back. FM 4 was so clear and nice. No constant wobble, everything was on screen and easily readable. 5 is just sad
There are a few angles where the wobble looks ok, mostly the top down "helicopter" view.
I absolutely loathe the part health bar display though. Should have just been number values if they wanted the stat display to stay small.
I actually have this game but never been able to play it because it only will work on Japanese ps2😢

The best front mission
If only Left Alive wasn't garbage along with its Tom Holland from Wish and Geralt from Alibaba characters, The Front Mission franchise would've thrived even just a little and Square Enix wouldn't have to lend its license to other companies to make the remakes. Yes, the Front Mission 1st remake by Forever Entertainment was total a total dumpster fire with its flimsily wonky wanzer animations, Jesus Christ.
Front Mission 2 remake was slightly okay compared to the 1st remake but still low bar. If Square handled it, it would've at least been decent to at least, Trials of Mana remake level of decent. Look at Live A Live remake, it's beautiful because key people from original team were involved like Tokita and Shimomura, there's passion and love for the title. Front Mission 1st Remake didn't have any of that.
I hope If they ever give Front Mission 4 or 5 a makeover, they'd make it with FF7 Rebirth/Remake or RE2 Remake Treatment. But I guess that's too much money to spend for such a niche and small fanbase. A remaster would be great for the modern consoles, Like a Crisis Core Reunion treatment. After Front Mission 5 and Front Mission 1st DS, the franchise has been falling in the hands of the wrong people. I hope it gets the love and passion from developers it deserves someday, Sooner if I might before it totally gets forgotten, fans are getting old too you know.

Well at the end of 4 you have walking destroyers armed with MG and Mortars and Rockets on every unit. 5 is more class based. Having MG and shoulder weapon on same wanzer is almost impossible (weight), Sniper is glass cannon, melee wanzer is bulletsponge. Missiles have 0% or 100% hit chance, weapons in general do far less damage than in 4, links work different. Also 5 have tons of cutscenes and looks better than 4.

Something about the 3d model faces looks disturbing, the story I can see doesn't look particularly impressive,the gameplay looks close to FM3 or 4 which is good,probably would have bought it anyway.

Dude, I do this series is great, probably because I like TRPG, but it's not worth remaking or remastering the game. TRPG mecha isn't a good idea to begin with, it actually sort of diminishes the value of the game being about mechas, and not a lot of people like TRPG. And Titanfall 2 is still up and it's probably the best mecha game to date by far, so for Square who's never that good at FPS to be able to make a contender is a stupid move.

I'm not surprised why this game never came out in english or globally released.. it's so bad on many level, the story, character and even the wanzer movement feels so cranky. I think FM 4 is the best FM franchise ever and then FM 3 for the story and gameplay.

Front Mission fan over here. Never played this game but it looks so bland and so uninspiring. The menus look so awful and the game lacks personality. The cutscenes are typical Japanese cheesiness... I for once am glad it didn´t make outside of Japan.
American cheesiness is worse. Castlevania SotN's English voice acting was garbo
