    Something i like about Blaze's moveset in 06 is that she really feels like an alternate reality version of Sonic, which is sort of what she is in canon. Fundamentally super different moves that fulfill the same purpose of preserving flow and quickly mowing down enemies.

      I also really like her in-game animations, even in retail. She has that focus on twirling and spinning from Rush, and generally has that same graceful but powerful feel.

      @ Well they are trying now, I even heard they are trying to have an official chronology of Rush, 06 and Rivals, the games that have the most confusing continuity with the Sol Dimension/Future inconsistency.

      ​@@RamyGd From what I understand, that was actually always the plan. Blaze was never meant to be from the future, and she isnt even in 06, which becomes apparent looking at the Japanese manual, the weird holdovers from Rush in 06, and some of its other supplemental material. Those plans likely fell through due to rushing the game out

      @@seematahir5970 she is in 06 she is just not from the future. Her bio in the Japanese manual of 06 does say she is from the Sol dimension and guardian of the Sol Emeralds. In generations she has some memories of crisis City because even after Solaris is erased from existence she is meant to still have Iblis sealed inside her.

    54:31 The "Rails" sonic is grinding on are actually called "Catenary lines", which are basically power cords for electric trains to make contact with to make them work
    which doesn't make sense because the trains running beneath the lines are Diesel locomotives, which don't need catenary lines in the first place

    I wonder if the idea for Knuckles' Aquatic Base segment is that Knuckles CAN dodge every enemy, but that makes it tougher for Sonic, so you have to choose which character has to deal with the enemies.

      Imo they could just do basics with a higher budget. Such as make the level design more focused on the upgrades to character movement like how Stelmo mentioned tails and knuckles aren’t really utilized properly.

      So many people say that sonic team needs to do an 06 remake and I just don't understand why people want this when P-06 exists. Like you, I don't think they'd do a better job with it than Chaos has. If I want them to do anything, I'd want them to work with ChaosX to make P-06 official, maybe they can add all the cutscenes and hub worlds in the official version with improvements made to them.

    Shadows aquatic base is a medicore platforming level but its an amazing score attack stage. Ive seen people do some crazy things maintaining a long combo with shadow

    I am in awe from chaosX's work, but also sad he decided not to finish off the experience by adding in the story mode when all the levels are already there besides from bosses.. kinda makes the experience incomplete..

    The wind boosts you go through in the water dashes is actually a nice nod to Sonic rush adventure, which serves as a temporary boost for the wind cyclone.

    Honestly just having different S-Rank requirements for each stage sounds like a much simpler solution than rebalancing how scoring or the combo system work lol. Would give a reason for the latter to be used too beyond personal score attacks.

    You did a disservice to aquatic base and all combat by ignoring the point system and the fun of trying to kill as many enemies as possible without touching the ground, you mentioned it only briefly and don't see how it makes the large enemy rooms fun. Also silver s final upgrade can be used to increase your combos by a lot by holding enemies then using the explosion.

    I think that a good compromise to Sonic's Dusty Desert & Tropical Jungle would be to add Elise-less versions of those levels in the Test Level.

    Level design has always been my weakest bit of gameplay design, so I love hearing your perspective on WHY these stages work in such great detail :D

    I know you’re not really a score attack guy, but I do kinda wish you mentioned that the slower routes often had more enemies on them, which could lead to higher scores, and thus mid stage decision making. It’s why I do appreciate Sonic’s Aquatic Base, even if it’s as linear as it is. You have a final platforming challenge, and a final combat challenge in a game that has deeper combat than most Sonic games.
    This game is still tied for my favourite Sonic game though. While I do wish the S rank unlocks and combo system were better communicated to new players, it’s still an incredible game and I can not wait for the final release.

    I like your suggestion to split off Shadow's Chaos Boost levels back into collectible Memory Shard upgrades, but there is a problem: it'd probably suck to go through the whole game as Shadow never finding any of them, which will be the case for most new players. Especially in the Last Release, where most people will play through the stages consecutively using the new mode ChaosX is planning on adding.
    I did think of an interesting solution though: bringing back the shop as a mechanic! Specifically, you could have crates with keys inside like in SA2/Heroes, and if you take a key to the end of the level, you can go to the shop between stages. There, you can buy any upgrades you missed in previous levels you've played, and if you haven't missed any, you could also buy 1ups and such.
    I think this would make the upgrades more accessible, since I feel like players who don't find them (or even know that they're there) will be missing out on a huge part of the game.

    Only one thing I wanna correct, Stelmo. The speed shoes appear again in one of Shadow's Town Missions, I believe it's one where he's thrown into a highway-like stage to protect a car

    I hope ChaosX doesn't remove the magnets - While they make combat meaningless, I like the dialogue and effects surrounding that.

      They really don't need to be in certain sections. At least remove them from Knuckles' section. Forcing him to actually engage in combat to hit the switch would make you actually use his moveset. He has multiple combos and other attacks that you just never need to use, even if you're going for a score attack run.

    Here’s to hoping that Chaos would rework the hub worlds and make them more lively, and try and make the cutscenes look even cooler with their own stage intro cutscenes for every single scene. Also, let’s not forget the bosses as well

    The moment that made P06 for me was the end of Kingdom Valley on Sonic's campaign. Playing through the entire waterfall section from start to finish, and NOTHING going wrong. It was the point of the whole mod, I realized at that exact moment "wait, this game is actually awesome."

    I know it'd a redundent and minor change but i think itd be cool if blaze rolled down that broken ramp in the crisis city cutscene to brace her fall instead of just plonking herself next to Silver and shattering her knees. Even though shes a cat

    54:34 is just a very poorly worded line. Probably a mistranslation. It means it's faster to be above the trains than to be running on the tracks.
    It's unfortunate that the word Rails can describe what is above AND below the trains.

    SUPER disagree with Tails' Wave Ocean being "lesser" than Sonic's. That stage is AWESOME!! (and does utilize Tail's abilities 😉)
    13:06 actually, you can jump while in gatling gun mode, but it will cancel that mode while you're doing so

    SA2 is my favourite Sonic game but I think Project 06 is probably the best Sonic game I've played overall just based on the other playstyles.
    I love treasure hunting in SA2 and it's my favourite alternate gameplay style to come out of Sonic Team's games (ik that's probably a pretty hot take). With that being said, I think Project 06 has the best non-Sonic gameplay overall out of all the Sonic games I've played. Despite the issues I have with Tails & Knuckles, I think Silver, Blaze, Amy, Rouge & Omega are all really fun to use. Amy has gone from unplayable to a real highlight. Rouge's focus on treasure hunting really appeals to me as someone who loves the treasure hunting of the Adventure games, though I wish her Tropical Jungle was a bit harder. The final key doesn't always have to be in the same place. Omega is a big improvement on the mech gameplay of SA1/SA2 with all the extra moves he has in his arsenal and Blaze is just a blast to play as. Silver always had the most potential imo, as big skips were possible in retail just by staggering his hovering. But just speeding him up lets him take these same shortcuts and more but at a much more enjoyable speed, and his combat is not frustrating like it was before.
    My biggest problem with Project 06 compared to the Adventure games is more how Sonic & Shadow are handled. Don't get me wrong, they are really fun to use. But I think they would really benefit from some of the mechanics of Sonic & Shadow's stages in SA1 and SA2. For one thing, having control during automated sections is really important for a time attack game imo. In SA1, you are usually able to skip loops just by spin dash jumping around them, taking an alternate path or spin dashing on a slope to skip it. In SA2, you are usually able to jump out of a loop in the middle of it to skip the rest and take a shortcut. In both games, you are able to spin dash/roll through a loop to speed it up. And even in scripted sections like the Orca chase in Emerald Coast, you can use the spin dash here to speed up. The only scripted sections in both Adventure games where you don't have any control are when you grab on to the rocket in Metal Harbour and when you're on the rollercoaster in Twinkle Park. In 06 and P-06, once the automation takes control you have no control until it ends. This happens on every loop, during the Wave Ocean Orca chase, the scripted sections of Kingdom Valley and there are dash pads all over the place that wouldn't be necessary if Sonic & Shadow were faster like they should be. This is arguably an even bigger issue in P-06 because the rest of the stage is able to be done so much faster than retail, so the better you get at the game, the more time you'll be spending in automation (unless you are able to do some really difficult speedrunning tech which most people won't be able to do). Just being able to jump, spin dash or blue gem during these sections would help a lot.
    The rail grinding sections are also very underwhelming in this game too because they are way too slow. In sections where you're just briefly on a rail, it's fine but in extended rail grinding sections like Shadow's Crisis City, it's just too slow for me. SA2 and Heroes let you go so fast when grinding and comparatively, 06 (and P-06) just has you at a slow crawl, being able to get a small speed boost by pressing the X button. Even the boost games which are too automated with rail grinding, at least has more spectacle and speed by having you boost during these sections.
    Sonic's story is probably the weakest in the game because of these issues, and the fact that he has the worst amigo characters. All the problems you pointed out with Tails and Knuckles are ones I've had. Knuckles' Aquatic Base is especially egregious imo. I still enjoy all 3 stories but my favourite has to be Silver's because of how much of an improvement he's seen from retail 06. Blaze sort of has some of the same issues I have with Sonic/Shadow's automation but because she only comes up every now and then in Silver's story, it's much more of just a nice change of pace after Silver's more involved gameplay.
    Despite my criticisms, P-06 is still a 9/10 game and has a lot more content than a lot of recent Sonic games. It's turned a D tier Sonic game which only really had value from its level layouts and soundtrack and turned it into an A+ tier game.

    EDIT: I 100% agree with what you said about s ranks. You should be able to get S-Ranks by speedrunning, since its extremely skill-based. Not saying other methods shouldn't be viable, but speedrunning shouldn't be punished.

    You really outdid yourself and anyalsed each stage in full detail and showed me things I didn’t know about before. Watching you run the game I’ve not seen certain paths or secrets that are hidden in this game. It made me realise how much this game represents what sonic is supposed to be and I’d love to check this game out someday.
    Also I’d like to say the bluff u did with the aquatic base combo showcase on stream was well done. I had no clue It was for ur next vid
    I’ve heard u talk so good about this game It was nice to see criticism and where it can evolve.
    Finally, about tails. I think he can benefit from the radical highway design with the doom wings. Making paths exclusive to flying characters would be awesome and for team attack amigo these characters are only gonna get better.

    I'm really surprised you didn't mention Crisis City Section D. If implemented, it would be a great way to differentiate the 3 different Hedgehogs acts of the stage. Perhaps Shadow could go through it instead of the gilder section. Hopefully it gets modded into the game, cause it looks like fun if properly tweaked.

    I doubt it'll happen, but I hope they add some stuff to silver so he can better take advantage of the combo system. Silver's already really fun to play, but not getting to play with the combo system as much does hurt him a bit, so I think it'd be nice if he got some changes so he can combo better even if only a little bit so he feels that much more satisfying to play. I think it'd be cool if silver had the option to curl back up into a ball after gliding, but still being vulnerable during the glide itself, that way you still need to be careful gliding close to enemies but giving him an option to get closer to enemies and combo into them by curling into a ball, since he can glide while holding enemies. Another thing, I wish he could use his psychic shot and knife while holding enemies, they still have their uses but because you can't use them while holding objects I feel generally makes them more niche, so having them still available while holding things would be a nice change, but maybe to compensate have them take up even more of the action meter while performing those actions with objects held.

    As a fan who doesn't really have the means to play P-06, I watch these videos on it with such envy.
    I wish Sega could somehow just give ChaosX a shitload of money and a license to release it officially.
    I know that'll never happen for many reasons, the main one being that Sega would be taking a free fan game and making it a paid product... but damn, I know I'd pay to play it as long as it supported ChaosX!
    But hey, didn't Christian Whitehead start off as a fan creator before working on the mobile ports and then Sonic Mania? Hopefully _something_ comes of this for ChaosX. He deserves it.

    I really like the combo bonus system the way it is because big number make monkey brain go ooga booga. I'd be fine with each level having it's own S rank requirement like in SA2 so long as the game told you how many points you need for each rank. Most levels need the S rank requirement to be increased by a lot. Especially Sonic and Shadow's Aquatic Base. All 3 Tropical Jungle's can stay at 50k though.

    A bit random but i'm having this problem on p-06 where on my ps5 controller, if i jump it causes the menu to pause at the same time of the jump. Anyone know a fix?

      that would not be legal for the developer to do, since it's a fan-made re-make of an already released product. Sega has made it clear, from my understanding anyway, that they are okay with fan games, so long as they are distributed free of charge.

    P-06 is an amazing project, the only thing holding me back from fully enjoying it is just that the dated 06 animations remain. I assume it to be pretty complicated to have a whole animation overhaul for the game so I don't blame them, but it's really hard to enjoy the game when they just stay looking so stiff and awkward. The models are not even the problem, fan animators have proven they can look amazing, it's just poor animation from SEGA.

    I hope Chaosx is willing to create an extra act for Tropical Jungle that has Sonic playing through it alone. Dusty Desert Very Hard will allow you to do that but you need Elise for the Silver/Rouge section in Very Hard Mode which would leave the regular Tropical Jungle as the only version base Sonic level where you can't play as Super Sonic. Considering the first trailer for the game has Sonic in Tropical Jungle by himself I think it would be cool if that was added to P-06 (Just with level design on the bottom part of the level so Sonic can cross the water.)
