- SURPRISE!! I'm moving to San Francisco in September...!
Watch the whole video to actually understand this CRAZY degree. aaaaaaaaaah
I've actually been so nervous to tell you! 🙈 It's SUCH a big decision and will hugely influence the next four years of my life (& my content, i guess). Thank you for always being the best, most supportive UnJaded community. 😌 The fact I finally found something that just felt right... eeeeeeeeeeeek x
The programme is called Minerva School at KGI! 🦋
ASDFGHJKLAAAAAAAh!!!! surprise!!!
also crying at your support! GUYS I LOVE YOU
I'm halfway thru revision for my A level psych exam tomorrow but saw the notification and decided revision could wait haha!! So proud of you - you really deserve it!
also watch this whole thing to understand!! 😂 it's a very very confusing concept with many many Qs but I'M SO EXCITED! Everything always falls into place, hey. 🙈😭
Love you Jade all the best
*AAAAHHH YOU ARE COMING TO INDIA YEEAAHH*
I think getting that rejection from Oxford for both you and Ruby Granger might be the best thing that could happened to you in your teens/ twenties
Rebecca Grant I was just thinking this the other day. The opportunities they’ve had since not getting in wouldn’t have arisen had they been studying away at Oxbridge! So pleased for them both.
When you said ‘I’m so glad I was rejected’ I just thought about how far you’ve come in just over a year and I’m so unbelievably proud and happy
Jade: What is ‘Minerva’?
Me: A professor at Hogwarts.
Rosie Jones LMFAO I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT
Well done.
A scam.
Literally what I thought. I was like did professor Minerva start her own program?
that’s what I thought too😂
The ‘active learning forum’ sounds like seminars/tutorials in normal unis. Uni isn’t just lectures! We have discussion based sessions too
I know but, you'd save a lot of time if you just had the seminars and not the lecture. Since them not being engaging makes it difficult for students to retain the knowledge
definitely ! i had no lectures for the last two years of my undergrad
@@TheCbstar I haven't been to a single lecture since first year. And I'm at a top 50 QS school
@@saraquaelwasframed my uni doesn't have compulsory attendance at lectures and all lectures are recorded, we have tutorials as well
Personaly I learn a lot from lectures and would not want to be without them
JADE! I am SO proud of you! This programme, as I know I've said before, literally seems to have been designed for you and I am genuinely just so happy for you!!! :)xxx
RUBY!! 🙈🥰 thank you for supporting me in this since the Cotswolds! ;) Here’s to a crazyyy adventure ahead x
Love these two!
and THIS is proof that everything really does happen for a reason. WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU JADE 💙
Lucrezia! 🙈😭 thank you so much!!
lucrezia chloe so proud
Why encourage her when she's literally been scammed off her 3A*
i mean its just not though
One of my American cousins went to/tried Minerva. She faced many issues because of it. The system, potential employers etc. She quit after 2 years and now she's in Yale. So I hope your experience with Minerva will be better.
I'm a Minerva student and I have no idea who you're talking about. I know everyone at my school (because its a pretty small school) and we have no one who matches that description...
What were the issues though
edit: also, same, I have no idea who you're talking about.
@@AyshaRehmen I will certainly not give out her name nor the courses she followed at Minerva on a social network. She is allowed a minimum of privacy.
Also I really doubt you know every one unless you graduate on the same year. It's a rather small structure but still. It's not The Little House on the Prairie either.
The first annual retention rate was 92%, the second 95% and class of 2019 was 87% so yeah, some people do drop out of/quit Minerva (cf. Quora). And my cousin turns out to be one of them.
However if you really are a Minerva student and literally stalk people who speak about it on social networks, you're giving off creepy vibes and a bad image of the school you represent. Just sayin'.
@@pipobputhipiroj9043 Employers outside the Minerva system were reluctant to offer her internships. Outside the Minerva sphere, she came to the conclusion that the school was either not well known or not well seen. And it didn't match her career plans.
Agathe Rigault just to be clear Amii (close friend of mine) never asked for personally identifiable information lol, she’s never just heard of your cousin. We’re both class of 2020 and so it’s possible your cousin matriculated in 2014 and dropped out the same year we enrolled and so we’ve never heard of her.
What your cousin says about Minerva not being well known (not well seen isn’t really a thing) is totally valid though and many students, myself included share these concerns. Name recognition can be really powerful for getting to interviews, but after that you still need to prove your merit like everyone else. Just thinking from a hypothetical recruiter’s point of view though, I wouldn’t immediately throw out an application if I don’t recognize the university and would be intrigued if they’ve completed multiple interesting internships across multiple countries.
Speaking empirically though students have been accepted to positions at google, Facebook, apple, Amazon, linkedin, so I think we have decent name recognition among tech startups at least. What field was your cousin in, out of curiosity?
I'm happy for Jade, if this is her decision then I hope she enjoys it! Just wanted to share an encounter I had with the CEO of Minerva. I met him in real life at an education conference, he told me I "sounded like a Minerva student" and should apply, when I told him I couldn't apply there because I was interested in Canada he called me a "hypocrite" for wanting the education system to change yet still going to a "stereotypical" and traditional school. I retaliated saying Minerva was simply unaffordable and not the way I learnt and he went on about how great the university was and how it was a "paradigm shift" in regards to learning. He basically tried to recruit me by belittling my university choices. If I'm being honest, this university is for the rich, many of which have their head up their arse thinking their superior to other uni's because they're diFfeRenT. Jade's definitely not like this but from the students I've seen, they sort of are. I respect peoples choices to go there but don't belittle mine for not.
I watched a video by the CEO just recently about Minerva and in the video you can see the elitist behaviour. Talking about how other universities can't compare, how their students are "miles" ahead. What's so different about this university? Travel? They do realize exchange programs exist? Extra-curricular involvement? Please, the average university can offer hundreds. Online learning? A google search away.
I don't mean to bash Jade btw, love her and a big fan of hers always. I even brought her up to the CEO saying I really appreciated who she is, I just don't appreciate the CEO or the university. That said, I'm happy with Jade's decision to go there, it is after all, her choice:)
Hey, thank you for this comment!! I'm so sorry about the experience you had with the CEO. Internally, among the students, many of us at Minerva actually struggle with our interactions with him and he is not the most popular person... so I feel you. The rest of Minerva & students there are much more humble and many of us come from struggling financial backgrounds.
I belive you, as I just went to their website and title of one of their articles says ''access opportunities in cities around the world that other students can only dream about''... if it's not giving toxic elite vibes idk what does.
revisiting this comment now it seems that jade has become everything you feared she wouldn't... she speaks about minerva in the EXACT same elitist way - "MY university is better, MY university is more challenging, MY university is so culturally enriching and simply cannot compare to the boring places (**coughs** Oxbridge) that you plebs attend"
@@tarae6587 i haven't watched her vids in a while so I'm surprised to hear this lol

I cannot think of a better person to experience such a magnificent and insightful opportunity. You've come such a long way, I've been following your journey since year 12, given me a lot of ideas to pursue this summer as I come to the end of my gap year. Your smile simply radiates happiness and I am so enamoured. You go Jade!
Jade you really need to be careful. I’ve looked it up and people say that their grads have gotten internships and jobs at Facebook, Twitter, Google. Ummmm makes sense because this uni is started in silicon valley. No one talks about getting jobs OUTSIDE of silicon valley, where employees have never heard about the college. I think it makes sense if you want to get into start ups and tech, but no sense in virtually every other field. I’m literally worried for you lol
Sure, i'll talk about offers they got outside of silicon valley. Off the top of my head, a few have gone on to graduate/phd programs at Harvard, Cambridge, NYU, Georgia Tech, UCIrvine, UoWindsor Law. Some will join nonprofits likeDosomething, OpenPhilanthrony. A couple are going to new york for finance. There are a lot more I'm not thinking of, and it should be kept in mind that these guys haven't graduated yet
edit: lmao at 'silicone valley'
Pipob Puthipiroj but no Oxford, Cambridge etc where jade wants to live in the future. So basically recognised in the US but I’m not seeing other foreign universities, apart from the one Canada mentioned. Also can you provide information about what kind of programs, was it medicine, law etc or give some names because I’ve tried to look up people in Linkedin and I haven’t seen anyone doing postgraduate study at a prestigious university post Minerva. Further, can you disclose if you worked in the Minerva admin team as it seems like many students have directly worked for Minerva.
??? I literally mentioned Cambridge, not sure which college (for Math). If you want specifically postgrad at prestigious universities, I can think of Harvard (one doing Phd in Biology, another doing work at stem cell lab), NYU (Phd in Data Science), Berkeley (Phd in quantum? Physics). I don't want to give names, but you can probably find them on linkedin (just make sure you're looking at profiles that graduated in 2019).
Finally, I'm a student, and no, I don't work with the admin team.
edit: I just remembered that the guy who got into Harvard also got accepted to a Phd program at oxford.
Pipob Puthipiroj Where people get jobs isn’t massively representative of the university. People from the lower universities in the UK can get into amazing universities and jobs post graduation with relatively little difficulty if they have the grades.
Cara not sure why you directed at comment at me, I agree with that to some degree
To quote Ibz here : "It's not REJECTION. It's REDIRECTION." Couldn't have been more true. CONGRATS JADE!! Soooo excited for the upcoming vlogs! xxx
oh my god THIS. ^^ Yes yes YES!!
Rejection is redirection. Hell yaws!! ❤️

Ur right men..
I am SO proud of you and SO pleased for you, everything happens for a reasons it’s gonna be INSANE🙌🙌🙌🙌
I’ve been lowkey watching your videos for a solid two years now and seeing you so happy literally is so inspiring!!! Definitely the right path for you, so jealous!
Please dont forget to vlog ur journey because it sounds like its literally gonna be amazing
KieshaR 26 she said she’s vlogging all of it!!
This is the perfect example of destiny. This was the reason why you were 'rejected' from Oxford. I'm so happy for you! And I look forward to all of your vlogs.
Yeah that's true
Last year I was not able to make through the cut off marks for the uni I wanted to get in....i was devastated and then I decided to take a gap year and now exactly one year later I'm flying to Belarus this August and I'm going to study medicine in a much much better place than the uni I wanted to get in
Therefore I actually believe in the statement that everything happens for a reason 😁😁😁😁😁
Jade, I know this is too late but what you could have done is to just go to Bristol University and then just sign up or apply for international internships/volunteering after summer exams if travelling is what you like. That way at least you know you are going to a genuine and recognised institution and you can decide exactly where to go in the world. Literally everyone I know who got rejected from their first university preference have no regrets at all once they settle at their second option and would never change it for the world for the friends they have made and the people they are redirected to. Anyway, stay safe.
I hope this will be an amazing experience for you, but the more I’ve looked into Minerva the less I believe it’s as amazing as they make it out to be. Also, shady how every time someone politely tells you to be cautious of this ”university”, there are students of minerva running to the conversation to hype the university up (with ”facts” that are hear-say based.
Omg imagine if you hadn’t taken a gap year, you had got in to Oxford. No of this would have happened, it shows that everything happens for a reason. I’m so proud this is an incredible achievement! 👏💕☺️
Idk if you are religious Jade, but God knew what he was doing!! Minerva is ALL YOU!!!
this sounds like absolutely the most amazing thing!! I'm so so happy for you and can't wait to get to see more about this experience!!!
There aren’t many people on social media who really inspire me so do more with life, wether it’s to travel more, learn more or better myself in any way but I can truly say that I always leave your videos and Instagram feeling so much more inspired!!! Hope you have an amazing time because it sounds like such a good experience!! Congratulations
Remember Oxford? Exactly me either😂🤭everything happens for a reason!
lively e09 😂😂😂
I recently got accepted to Minerva and made a video of how, with my stats and tips: ua-cam.com/video/AXOjLdaI5jI/v-deo.html
Funny how people who dont get in to Oxford say this all the time. I guess it's ok ... your coping mechanism. Minerva .... sounds strange. I think if this model does work it would have been followed by the top universities. Can never beat Oxford tutorials though. Will also be difficult afterwards for top jobs as we havent even heard of this university. Be careful.
We all remember Oxford lmao
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE STUDY WITH ME VIDEOS FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD JADE AHH !!!!
you’re so happy in this!! the happiness radiates! watching this made me smile :)
I am very happy for you Jade and I hope that this all pans out as it is meant to.
I will voice that I do share concerns that others have expressed in the comments; living in the US I am very used to seeing how the for-profit university model advertises itself, and the kind of promises they make. Unfortunately this particular university raises a lot of those red flags for me. I do hope that I am wrong on so many levels, but I also hope that you are able to keep your wits about you if something doesn't feel right and not be caught up in the glitz and glamour of travelling the world. It sounds wonderful, but frequently those things that sound too good to be true are.
I would definitely be cautious and ask them not only about their admissions rate (which are frequently conflated by for profit and non profit universities to be smaller than they actually are) but also for the percentage of graduates that have gainful employment after a year, and also be sure to ask for descriptive data regarding what that employment is. Again, frequently universities of all kinds will inflate this percentage to seem artificially high but the number of students actually employed in their field and not, say, at a grocery store, is very low. I worry that, with this university being relatively unheard of (speaking as an American so I'd think I would have heard of it) that this four years will not lead to gainful employment in the sector you seek, which is unfortunately the case for a lot of schools that are either for profit or have questionable accreditation.
Hey! I'm a current student and stumbled on this video (not like paid or supported by Minerva).
Firstly, the actual university part (Minerva Schools) is a nonprofit and the company that makes the video chat (Minerva Project) is for profit.
In regards to employment rate.... it's currently 0%. I'm in the first graduating class and we're graduating in a week. It's VERY new. That being said, my class is moving on to a wide variety of callings, and I'm so excited for everyone. Some students are going to tech companies (incl. Twitter, Google, I'm going to Uber). Some are going to non-profits (e.g. a friend working in India at an evalution non-profit, or another going to DC for ethical tech) and some are going to finance (PE firms) or continuing their education (one student going to Harvard Med, NYU, Cambridge).
My class is only about ~100 students, but each one's story and motivation excites the shit out of me, and I know they'll go on to change the world. In that sense I'm in no way at all worried about the employment percentage for Minerva grads. I think the stories of Minerva '19 and future classes will speak for themselves.
:') ZAAACH
@@zacharywitzel9211 Current employment rate is 0%?
@@manortheatrecompanystoke-o8346 cause it's new, the first people are just about to graduate (he wrote that above)
@@LittleDreamer1412 Exactly my point. Not one degree has gained employment to date. There is a large risk factor to that.
I got the vibe that your heart wasn't in Bristol and I'm so happy you found this! Seems perfect for you!! Congratulations Jade! Xx
Ikr I am so happy for her!!!!
Can you please make a video about the finance side of all this?
Hamna Tanveer Sure if you finance it yourself it’s extremely expensive, in flights alone.
NickyL yeah i know and thats why i wanna know how other people who have applied and probably cant fund it themselves have gotten round it and since no one around me knows about this i dont know whom to ask.
She said it costs similarly to normal uk college.
Karina oh alright but student finance covers that but i dont know what the protocol for minerva. Would student finance cover that do you get some sorta loan is it financial aid. I am clueless😅
You need to be extremely rich, that’s the finance side it
I’m so jealous!!!
I honestly hope you have the best time and live in the moment. This is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Did some research on Minerva and the guy who runs it and he really infuriates me. He has this vision that all universities should reform and utilise these strategies that Minerva do, he says "Universities must respond to Minerva, either by adopting our system or, ideally, by coming up with something that's even better that we can adopt"...but can you imagine if every university in the world was doing this? Right now, Minerva science students can only use labs from partner universities (I think?) or other lab facilities, so if every university did this there would be no labs, and can you imagine hundreds and thousands of students overcrowding all these other lab facilities where people need to work?? Also keeping track of say 22,000 students who are all over the world all the time would be a nightmare.
He has said and I quote "You do not get an education in a traditional university. You get information, you may learn a subject. But an education requires a structured, deliberate programme that develops the individual mind" I mean i don't even need to explain how untrue this is, my university course is all of those things as I'm sure every other traditional university is lmao.
He also bangs on about how "Our students after one year go on internships and they are able to do the kinds of jobs in the workplace that third-year Ivy League students would struggle to do. So they perform at a level that is substantially higher than any of their peers." That is a bold statement and one that I really don't think he can make without some really convincing stats to back it up, and (from what I've seen) he hasn't done any studies comparing a group of Ivy league students to a group of Minerva students in an internship.
He put's down people who have gone to countries to build houses for example Uganda (where my friend is currently doing this), saying "We're not particularly impressed if mum and dad put you on a plane to Honduras and had you build a house for someone" I feel like this is very ignorant and generalises everyone who goes away to do this, my friend spent a year raising £1400 and another couple hundred for vaccinations to go over there with not a single penny from her parents. I guess open-mindedness isn't one of the skills Minerva looks to develop in its students.
Okay I could go on for days but one thing that personally pushes my buttons are these types of comments "As for learning a language, he advises buying software, visiting a country, or “getting a boyfriend” who speaks it." I am currently studying a modern languages degree and this totally infuriates me. I finished the Duolingo tree, and I am not fluent, I have plenty of friends who speak my target language and yet I cannot interpret in a business scenario. It's just once again so ignorant and close minded, and that is why I could not advise anyone to go to a university knowing that this man is in charge.
i know that this isn't entirely relevant to the point of your comment, but I just wanted to say that you should look into the damage that going to build houses in these nations does to communities. There are plenty of videos here on youtube addressing how performative it is when there are a myriad of other ways to help which - while perhaps not allowing young people to take photos for Instagram with poor kids and write a college essay on how the trip 'changed their life' - do not inflict the same psychological and economic impacts :)
@@eb2142 Hi! As you can see I made this comment 10 months ago and since then my views have changed, I totally agree with you and am no longer a supporter of "voluntourism"...something about seeing those who had go on these trips post pictures with the children as if it was all they set out to do really rubbed me the wrong way and reading back at my comment has made me cringe a bit! But thank you pointing this out x
I went on a major Minerva rabbit-hole today, and I ended up in a similar mindset to you. I even listened to an NPR debate that the founder took part in! I kind of think they're just using the school as a test subjects/PR for the technology. Getting well-accomplished and smart students only makes them look better, and due to the cost of the school, they're likely to have family connections, and enough clout to be able to make it in their chosen field. This guy comes from tech, not education, and they're partnering with universities to use their software. I'm surprised they don't have more partnerships going considering the pandemic, but maybe the intensity of the data monitoring is too much for a lot of institutions. I can't believe that they even record video of people taking the "challenges"! How much data do they have on all of the people that have enrolled in the university, and how is it used?
Just think, if Jade had been successful in her application to Oxford Uni, she probably would never have applied for Minerva....Everything happens for a reason! Congrats Jade xx
This sounds like the best university experience EVER, I’m so jealous 😂
Honestly me tooo 😂 I’m starting to regret my university choice even if I probably would never be accepted in Minerva anyway 😅

M P ah, yeah you’re probably right 😂
We’re all on our own path. This seems like a great deviation from societal norms towards higher education and I’m super excited for you! I understand the people in the comments section feeling worried for you, but as someone who also took an unconventional path, don’t take all of it to heart. This seems like the perfect option for you, and if you also believe that and are truly excited then you’re making the right decision :) can’t wait to see this all unfold!! I subscribed❤️

Well done you deserve it!!
Tree Beast what do you mean ?
@@Elif.099 That is the yield rate, which is basically the percentage of accepted people who choose to enroll at Minerva. The actual acceptance rate is somewhere around 1.2% for this year.
@@Krithik44RRI suppose acceptance rates are also based on gauranteed funding ability by the individual.
@@manortheatrecompanystoke-o8346 Actually, Minerva is need-blind, which means they don't take the financial status of an applicant into consideration when deciding whether to admit them or not.
@@Krithik44RR to be clear, acceptance rates are 1.9%, meaning 1.9% of all applicants are given offers, and 50-60% of acceptances generally (matriculate), so that's how you'd get 1.1-1.2%

That sounds like a fricken dream come true! I wish I had this when I went to post secondary 10 years ago... I would have LOVED this so much. I have always wanted to live abroad omg... So happy for you!!! Now I know where the later content is about (just became a follower).
I would be scared with it being such a newer school and how it works after graduation but the experience abroad and life skills you gain with that would be worth it enough for me!

Jade, You deserve every bit of happiness and opportunity that's come your way!! You've done so much this past year it's INSANE. From getting rejected from OXFORD you got into a university with a 2% acceptance rate that's AMAZING. And you fully fully deserve it. So proud of my "studytube mum" (lol never saying that again). (And you're coming to Hyderabad so I can't wait until you eat the biryani and die of bliss.) Thanks for being SUCH an inspiration!
She's vegan.
R A A J R E A D S there’s vegan biryani..?
@@glitter4ever10 But it's quite a task finding a shop in HYDERABAD selling vegan briyanu tho. 😄
R A A J R E A D S why is it hard to find vegetable biryani lol
@@sharveenraaj4800 Vegetable Biryani is vegan.

I am so happy for you!!! I can tell that you are really exited and you have also opened up another option for me to think about as I am 15 and wasn’t going to go to uni because of the style of learning and life.
This is so incredible and just goes to show when one door closes another one opens!! Congratulations Jade, you have a huge future ahead of you!!💓
Absolutely chuffed for your Jade. This sounds absolutely incredible and such an amazing opportunity. Congratulations, you clearly deserve it !!!
yasss yasss congratss Jade! I was and am always inspired by your actions, from study organization to health relating stuff. Good luck on your upcoming journey! I look forward to enjoying many more videos about your college
Minerva don't offer Biology or French, and they don't offer Literature in the traditional sense either. It might be worth having a look at the curriculum in more detail before you commit to it!
Ema Anja that’s sad
I hope she sees this comment
Hey! Current Minerva student here (just stumbled on this video). So Minerva doesn't teach any languages, the thought being that there's a wealth of online cheap / free resources to learn language, but there's definitely classes and concentrations focussed on Biology (though the names are a bit obfuscating)
There is no better way to learn languages than immersion! The students do learn biology. Learn about the curriculum first. After picking majors, they can direct their learning, students have worked in lab in labs in the universities they partner with
They do offer natural sciences which has biology in it, I think that’s what she meant
Jade I could not wipe the smile off my face watching this.
The universe makes sense again and holy HECK is it perfect.
This was manifested for and by you
I literally wanna go there and I’d never heard of it before haha, well done Jade you’re so amazing and I’m so happy for you. Go smash it! Xxx
Okay this is absolutely fantastic, so happy for you. I'd love to see this crazy experience so don't leave anything out in your vlogs 😂 I can pretty much relate on liking different things and not wanting to be tied down to one. I'm super excited for you omg!!! Congratulations♡
