Morning Chris from Australia. It's 6am and 30°C with 85% humidity. My back hurts, and I'm hot and bothered...... before i go out and garden, I'm watching your video, and im literally laughing and smiling. With very little money, gut health issues, a shitty car, and a gorgeous fiance, and a confused dof, you manage to brighten my day and put a seriously big smile on my face from the other side of the world. Thank you. 😊
I love the rustic videos. I very much doubt that any farming day goes to plan in a linear way. Buzzing around place to place, job to job is more of a truthful insight to your day.
We find the wind in the Medway Valley is totally unpredictable in direction compared to the forecast. Just upstream from you and only damage was a sheet that had been on the ground in the same place since July last year.
I love your videos, disjointed or not. Sorry about your poor shed. Best wishes for your chest infection to heal up. Your ducks make me smile every time.
Don't apologise about your UA-cam videos..i think there very true to life, plus your hilarious..keep doing what you are . Hope your feeling better soon.
Love Indy the long eared sheep dog, and now the Rapid Response Mini. Horses for courses when it comes to tupping ewe lambs. A Blackie on a Scottish Hill would be bad but my cousins in Victoria Australia do it all the time. They produce meat lambs and opened a bottle of Champagne 🍾 when the last lorry load left.😊
It does not hurt to put well grown ewe lambs to the top. I was doing it 35 years ago using a Texel Tup. No problems. Great job Chris, keep your chin up.
Hey. Personally I think you are doing such a great job. If your business means you work differently to others then so be it, so long as its right for you and Zoe. Mate love watching your content and sorry your having a tough time at the moment, but you got to have a tough time to enjoy the rewards...... Hopefully:) hehehe. Good luck to you both. still think your both an inspiration to anyone who is starting out and not coming to farming with land or stock. keep on rocking as your doing so well
We just spent two weeks of horrible weather and I am not half as cheerful as you are with escaped sheep, blown roofs AND working ill. I hope the run of bad luck is done. Drink some elderberry juice and hot ginger tea and get some rest. You need your strength. We are pulling for you. Btw... I TUP my ewe lambs. With good care they do great.
My husband and I and most of the family have had cold and feeling soooo tired and unwell for last few weeks. Can’t imagine how you feel as sheep need looking after , where as if I don’t have energy to do anything I can leave it !!!, well apart from getting the kettle on for another cup of 🫖. Take care 😘. Love watching your channel .
Hey Chris, here in NZ tupping ewe lambs is a common practice. If you have the feed about to keep the ewe lambs in good condition right through until around weaning then it's well worth tupping them. My father did it for many many years and had great success. They tend to be better mothers as 2tooths aswell, and the negative impact on their growth wasn't as impactful as i once thought as a younger lad. Some people say you lose a year at the other end with them but everyone has a different perspective on it.
It's common practice to breed ewe lambs here. Using a ram that produces smaller headed/shouldered lambs is the only way to go, otherwise you'll have a wreck and of course ewe lambs may take longer to bond to their lambs. You have to be prepared to pen the ones that drop a lamb and then just run away. I've had ewe lambs bred at 7 months who went on to lamb at 9 and 10 years of age and hold their condition all the way through 10 lambing seasons. It's really about proper husbandry.
There is nothing better then waking up feeling sick and then having to shave dingle berries off some nasty dirty sheeps ass! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You sure did win the lottery that day!! 😂😂😂😂 God i love your videos so im gonna need more then once a week sir!! Lol Your the only channel I watch that i literally check everyday a few times a to see if you upload! Usually you don't! Lol Please make more videos and more consistently please and thank you!! 😊😊 EDITED: I just remembered.. When you gonna make that video all about your life? Or all about your farm life? Cant remember which one.. But when are you gonna finally do that? You told us between Xmas and New Years and it's now February! Your slacking chris!! Lol
Hiya personally I think breeding lambs early gives them an extra year of life ,yes it makes them work slightly harder but if grass is good it’s fine I’ve found also making them work a bit harder I’ve found that there teeth don’t grow so fast 😊
Don’t worry about your content Chris. We just like going along with you in your day! Please see a Doctor about your breathing. I trust that you have. But they assume you are doin fine if you haven’t complained. Might be able to call and get seen quickly.
Romneys, Cheviots especially love to escape or die in unique and horrible ways. Oxfords, Cotswolds, Lincolns much better, but not by much…. One reason I no longer raise em even though I love lamb😋
Please don’t apologize for, well, life making things chaotic. It does that pretty regular. And working through being unwell is no fun. Try apple cider vinegar for chest infection. It’s a game changer.
I never keep a ewe lamb that doesn’t breed. She has to pay her way from the start. After a few years of culling opens and keeping the offspring, I got over 90% of my ewe lambs to lamb that first year.
If ever I put lambs to the ram, I leave the ram in for one 18 day cycle. The ones that are ready, take, and the ones who aren't grow on. Never had any problems ( additional problems). Good luck mate.
That's life. Make a video when you can. I never had I problem running with ram with the ewe lambs. Once there over 50 kgs there good to go. I try to keep them on there own once there lambed and give a bit of feed.
Ewe lambs. In nature there body determines when they get in lamb. Need plenty of feed to maintain the natural order of things. Generally run a few less Ewes to accommodate replacements (Ewe lambs). Every thing balances out. A lot less work with this system. 20 -21st century has seen all sorts of sicence applied to farming to increase performance. Basically high capital input, high returns. Separating the Ewe lambs spawned out of this. It worked at that time. The world we currently live in is quite different. What's the ideal formula now? Low capital input seems to make sense. Currently, the net return on a low capital input system, is often better than the high capital input system. Even accountants are concluding. It's better to set the farm system up to be less labour intensive, then create alternative income streams via a part time job or side business.
My opinion if you don’t breed the ewe lambs then they cost you money for a year, if you do breed them then they at least pay for there keep for the year. I’ve never had an issue with stunting growth as long as they are fed well.
Good video pity about the shed and you feeling under the weather hopefully next week will be better this time last week was sitting in the house listening to slates flying off the roof and yet we have an old stone barn we use for lambing with a dodgy roof and it was ok 🤔
nearly 70% of sheep in NZ are Romney's and they are monster, if they can find a way out they will - There has been a lot of discussion on breeding ewe lambs from other youtube farmers around the world - you are and we know why - Kiwi Farmer in NZ, Cam from the Sheep Game, Will from Cowley Hill Farm who are not and why - Kiwi Farmer and Cowley Hil Farm own their own land which makes a difference - they can put them up in a hill paddock and let them eat with no additional cost to themselves - I don't think any farmer is right or wrong they just have different reasons behind their decisions
Do not apologize for the disjointed videos. I do not watch Channels looking for TV quality production and splashy intros, we do not need that period in fact a lot of the UA-cam channels irritate me with their intros. I am not looking for television or cable
5:02 dont you need a 3 string electric fence? Ask for someone to sponsor you on here? Don't be to proud! There are companies out there giving supplies for advertising and you have enough viewers and subscribers to get supply sponsors as you need a good bit of fencing they would be worth giving you a good supply to say they rescue you and stop the sheep escaping. also the wire you have is grey/brown? And the spikes are dark? the sheep probably can't see the wire.
Don't change!! I love your vids they are raw.. true...

I've seen two other sheep farmers who tup their Ewe Lambs, never seen any issue other than the Ewe Lambs being a bit stupid from time to time

Dude, life aka shit happens! Never apologise for a disjointed video! It’s life! Now you go take care of yourself, lambing is around the corner ❤

If they were out in the wild, they’d go in lamb as soon as they were ready, right?

Train your lambs on 4 strand not 2 it will pay dividends
