@6V92TA Making anything more than a 5 chime horn is hard, because only 5 chime manifolds exist, so to add more than 5 bells you have to modify the manifold. A P6 could be easily done, just add a #5 bell to this horn. I've seen some people make a P7, but that required cutting and welding one of the bells to make notes that all worked together to sound good. Search youtube for "A seven chime diesel airhorn"
@6V92TA B Flat is the same as A#. A P4A bell plays an A#. Mixing a 0 or #4 bell with a 4A would sound absolutely horrible, since the A and A# are only a 1/2 step away from each other.
You should try 01245 as well. Makes for a pretty nice sound without the dominant 7th of the chord. I think Ed K. has posted a recording of that combo. He calls it an Organ Chime or something along those lines.
My latest horn I've acquired is a Old Cast P5 on a low manifold, I can't find any videos of the similar one, although I have found 1 picture online of the same model, apparently its a rare find.
That sucks, other wise you could make up some pretty cool horn combinations. On a P5, does the #1 bell need to be dominant in the middle of the manifold? or can you place any bell anywhere and none of them will starve for air?
If you have the chance to watch the clip "Southern on the Old NS and Crossing the Albemarle Sound, 1982-84" here on UA-cam, SOU 5110 sounds similar to this horn. The uploader states the audio isnt altered, but I'll let you be the judge :)
I hear what you do, it does sound similar. All the horns in that video seem to be much lower in pitch that a standard P5, and the rest of the audio seems unusual to me. It appears the audio may have gotten pitch shifted lower somehow. The Southern was a big user of P5's, however the only large railroad use of the P0 bell was on Amtrak E60's. Older home audio recording equipment was pretty awful, especially combined video and audio systems. That's why I collect and record old horns, we know what old RR stuff looked like, but its hard to know what it actually sounded like.
This combination, as long as it is old cast would have been a great alternative sound for railroads...to bad Swanson never put this combination together from Nathan hears ago. The more I listen to it the better I like it. Matt try the combination my buddy Carl Ragoza put together old cast using two#1 be!!s, #2 bell, #3 help and a #4 bell. It sounded almost like a typical M-5 on the S.P.
@NampaSubdivisionAJV K. Just to let you know that I did request that time off. I'll get back you and let you know for sure. So that way I could join you guys for the foamer's extravaganza.
I am at lost for words, that sounds amazing, I would love to wake up to that in the middle of the night, it sounds just like a K5LLA

This is an old cast horn.
A very pleasing sounding chime combination.
You did great with this one ! Love the tone and quilling !

A Raised Letter K5LLA long before it ever existed. God this is superb sounding.
Beautiful harmony !
You just earned yourself an extra subscriber from this. That is a beautiful horn.

I like the deeper horns, such as the M5. You should paint it and sneak it onto a IC E8
Wow, awesome horn!
@Lightwolf333 see if he can come down to bliss the last weekend in March, I have that weekend off and I might be spending it there at bobs house.
Kind of sounds like a CNW K5HLR24 mixed with a RI P135
That is actually a nice sounding horn Matt.
Now if I heard a horn like that, I would shit myself lol! Awesome as always man!
@Lightwolf333 We need to make his car look like the DeLorean car from the movie "Back To The Future 3" that went on the tracks., LOL!
I think that experiment was a success, awesome!
You should do a new cast version of this I'm curious as to what it would sound like.
Not mu video but ua-cam.com/video/gMWdtpMBnzw/v-deo.html
I mean a new cast p01234
The video I linked to IS a new cast. The 5 instead of a 4 won't make that much difference so long as the #3 is new cast.
Can you put P bells on K manifolds or vice versa?
No, the manifold bolt spacing on a K bell is wider than on a P bell.

Just like on the K horns any bell can go on any manifold position.

@@mafarnz thanks! Yeah that's what I figured about the sound. Heck I'd be surprised if it actually was dead on but one can dream lol
Beautiful!

I'll have to find another #1 bell but I'll definitely try that.
@CoastStarlight11 LOL!
Back in time my friend.
@NampaSubdivisionAJV K. Just to let you know that I did request that time off. I'll get back you and let you know for sure. So that way I could join you guys for the foamer's extravaganza.
@CoastStarlight11 Now we just need to convert his car into a Hi-railer and do this... J/K. LOL!
Interesting horn..., sounds good
Very intense stuff right here!
sounds awesome to me
the horn sounds exactly like a Amtrak GE E60CH
It’s almost the same as what was used on the E60. The E60 horns were P 0, 1, 2, 3, 5 bells. This video is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.
mafarnz I wish Amtrak still used the P01235 horn it would be perfect for the ACS64 or the P42
Love it! Fantastic harmony. ~ MLG
Where can I get a 0 bell from?
Someone that is selling one. And bring lots of $$$. Nathan no longer makes them and they are HIGHLY sought after.
@NampaSubdivisionAJV We need to get together with Matt some time.
Where did you get your 0 bell?
Off eBay several years ago.
Woops I posted on the wrong account ,
Mafarnz, Can I request a P5LAC" Low Profile Manifold with a Old #1, New #2, New #3, 4A, and Old #5 ?
Ahh the P5 combo that sounds like a K5LA! I actually did that a long time ago, but never posted the video... I'll post that in the next few days.

This the horn I got the Idea from, Do you know if thats a New 4A or a Old one ? trainweb.org/mdamtrak199/horns/phorn/mdp5lac_e1.mp3
Kyle Troutman
The 4A bells only say Pat Pending (old cast) even brand new ones.
